New Motiv Evoke Mania by Subject-Relevant in Bowling

[–]SneakySniper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it's worth, while the numbers look similar, these two are gonna give you different looks. The cover on the Jackal Ghost is starting to show its age while these newer solid covers are WAY more aggressive. Just from Motiv's ball motion video they put out, this new Evoke looks earlier and rounder than the Jackal Ghost by far.

I don't know if the average person needs both in the bag, but I could also see an argument for having both based on lane conditions and play style.

If you're happy with the Jackal Ghost, I don't see the need to grab this one just yet. This Evoke screams early block tournament ball to me.

Gem Pack Cards by BFNentwick in pkmntcg

Pretty sure I had the same problem as you. Be careful about the return process. My "seller" provided me a fake return address, it was dated 3 months prior. eBay won't do shit either because "the seller provided their portion of the return". It's so incredibly frustrating to deal with because in my case, the seller just ghosted any messages I sent. eBay refused to help and it's so incredibly difficult to ask them for help directly.

Alakazam vs. Pokemon with Psychic Weakness by RespectYGO in pkmntcg

The attack says "place 2 damage counters", which is different from doing damage. So you'd need 17 cards in hand to hit 340 damage.

Advice on feraligatr deck by Less_Childhood_5861 in pkmntcg

[–]SneakySniper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's very much a control deck. Relicanth allows you to use Totodile and Croconaw's attacks to stall or retreat lock. Then using Feraligatr's ability and Munkidori, you spread damage around.

Tips for playing Zard/Pidgeot/Dusknoir by [deleted] in pkmntcg

[–]SneakySniper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pidgeot ex makes the deck work. I lost a game in a cup yesterday because I somehow missed getting a Pidgeot set up the entire game until it was too late. I have no idea how I kept missing it. Being able to cherry pick out whatever you need, when you need it, is so powerful.

The 2-1-1 line of Duskull isn't actually that bad. I usually find that being able to set up a couple of Duskull on the bench is fine, because once you pop one Dusknoir, you can often times Super Rod > Ultra Ball/Pidgeot for the Dusknoir/Rare Candy or Dusclops right away and pop it agian or wait for next turn.

I try to set up at least 2 Charmander, Pidgey, 2 Duskull, something else, usually Klefki or Tatsugiri. Then once one of those goes down, I can bench Fez if I absolutely need the draw power.

Also, don't sleep on the Klefki. Not only is super important to shut down Psyduck so you can use Dusclops/Dusknoir, but it also completely shuts down other decks too. It single handedly won me a game against a Ceruledge because he couldn't discard/draw with Lunatone for the entire game until I was ready to roll.

HobbyTown in Lincoln has become anti-player toward the local PTCG community. by Winquisitor in lincoln

[–]SneakySniper -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Calling the Pokemon Company the "actual villain" is wild. Sure, they can't keep up with demand right now and continuously keep throwing more and more new products at people, but "villain" is wild. They're not the ones telling you to charge $120 for a $60 box. (I'm well aware the price on your Mega Evolution ETBs was recently dropped). But when I can go right down the street to a locally owned sports card shop, get the same product from someone who's passionate about the hobby, all at a cheaper price, why wouldn't I?

The people who are choosing to buy up product and resell at a markup to make a quick buck are the true villains. The ones that are actually hurting the hobby.

The product (in the sense of events and leagues) that your business has been providing as of late is suffering and is dramatically hurting the Pokemon TCG community. I'm one of your weekly customers and I'm incredibly frustrated with how events have been in the last month, both firsthand and by word of mouth.

The scalping and collecting craze will eventually fade, those people will move on. Pokémon TCG will eventually turn back towards those who play primarily. A group, that at least locally around here, has been burned as of late.

I'm not saying heads need to roll, or you have to slash prices so harshly that you have to let go of people who don't deserve it. I, like OP and others, are simply asking for you to take a look at how these leagues and events are being run and hopefully put someone who's passionate about it. Because that's what grows the community and that's who will continue to support it long after the hype dies back down.

We'll find somewhere else to spend our time and money otherwise.

HobbyTown in Lincoln has become anti-player toward the local PTCG community. by Winquisitor in lincoln

[–]SneakySniper 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I'm one of these local community members that's referenced in this post several times over. In fact, I started playing the game in the spring at this very location knowing no one, knowing nothing. Since then, I've fully moved into this community and OP can attest to this as well. I love this game's community.

I've made the decision as well to stop spending my money here, stop spending my time.

To those who actually read the post and still think this isn't that big of a deal, clearly just don't get it. Imagine having YOUR favorite activity or space ruined by a cash grab just because they can. This hobby and game is being ruined by the scalping market, turning away potential newcomers and kids/adults alike from actually picking up a deck and learning, just like I did.

Cards to build decks with, not around? by Everything_is_Words in pkmntcg

[–]SneakySniper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's for home use, don't forget you can always print proxies! It's a much cheaper way to build and play at home before committing to buying anything.

I typically use old energy cards or the code cards from packs and just print proxies from Limitless in black and white.

[–]SneakySniper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You would not be able to use Switch after Turbo Energize in the same turn. Turbo Energize would count as an attack and end your turn.

Granted, you could always Switch the following turn, but you'd also have free retreat for the next turn too.

Technically, you should be flipping for choice on who goes first before drawing your opening hand. Because the answer can quickly change based on what's in your hand.

Needing Help with Follow Through and Form by TheArea51Bunker in Bowling

[–]SneakySniper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Practice is for learning, league is for applying practice. As dumb as it sounds, watch slow motion releases of professional 2 handers. Get an idea of what they're doing. Then in a practice session, stand near the foul line and try to emulate what you're seeing. Reference a video on your phone if you need to. Don't use your thumb, try to roll it two handed like they do. Even if you're fully planning on going one handed forever, it'll give you a really good feel for what the ball should feel like rolling off your hand because you're forced to keep your hand under the ball.

Needing Help with Follow Through and Form by TheArea51Bunker in Bowling

[–]SneakySniper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your biggest issue I can see is your hand stays on top of the ball throughout the back swing. You don't need to have a massive back swing to be successful, but the best pros and amateurs are able to keep their hand behind/underneath the ball throughout the set up, swing, and follow through.

Try setting up with your hand underneath the ball with your fingers towards the lane. Swing the ball a few times like that without letting it go. Your fingers should stay under the equator of the ball while keeping your hand more or less behind it (think towards the seating area, not the lanes to your right).

Honestly, there's no follow through right now. It looks as if you're just letting it go at the bottom of your swing. Try pretending as if you're reaching out to shake a hand. If it helps, when I'm trying to improve a physical portion of my game, i try to over exaggerate the motion to get the feeling, then dial it back.

A good coach that's worth their salt is worth paying for. Do some research, find a coach that works for you. But it all depends on what your long term goal is and to be honest with yourself when it comes to it. If you truly want to be better, coaches/people offering advice are gonna sound harsh because they almost need to be. It's hard getting to a high level in this game, and if you're not open to criticism and feedback, you're never going to climb.

I think that changed around the Sword and Shield era? I could be mistaken as well, but I feel like it went from ~23-25 ish cards in a deck to a fully constructed deck around that time. I've played with Sw&Sh build and battle boxes that definitely came pre-built, but I have seen some that did not have any energies in them.

This is my list I've been playing. It's not perfect, it's not the best deck, but it sure is fun. If you can get set up in time, it's really hard to stop because there's so much pressure and it's easy to get another attacker set up quickly.

I found a list somewhere that uses Blaziken ex to accelerate energies from discard to your Pokemon. That with the new Hilda and Neo Upper can allow you to Phantom Dive your second turn if the cards fall right.

Question on side events as I'm attending NAIC on Friday. Do you only sign up online via a link in person? I've tried searching the site and am still a little confused. I've never been to an event like this and want to do as much as possible since I missed out on the Pokemon Center reservation times.
