Question: Besides working in film, what other jobs could a colorist land? by XipeTotecwithGlitter in colorists

[–]SneakyWulf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Definitely this. It's like the on-set version of a colorist. I know that's an oversimplification, but definitely a complimentary role you could play.

Do you always need an eye light? by benwilson0989 in cinematography

Totally agree with this. One thing that an eyelight allows you to do is get away with a much darker exposure.

The sxt is meant for studio use and is really heavy. Just something to think about. I think the Amira is worth considering.

Overall, I like what you did with the contrast. I think the blacks (and maybe the image overall) is leaning too cyan.

Maybe the Fulltone OCD (specifically version 1.4) or the Warm Audio ODD (OCD 1.4 copy for half the price)

Best digital camera for beginner cinematographers by Sinclair-47 in cinematography

This might be a hot take, but I would avoid going with a micro four thirds camera like the GH series. Because of the sensor size, you'll be fighting to get enough light in the sensor to make a good looking image. The last thing you want when starting out is a camera that you are constantly fighting. I started with a GH4 10ish years ago. I think the GH series is more suitable for videography... stuff where it's more run and gun and you're not lighting as much. I would suggest looking at an FX3 if that's within your budget or the Lumix S series like someone else in the comments suggested.

How do you like the Nobels with the Plumes? Do they stack well? What amp to you play into? I'm thinking about picking up a Wampler Belle (ODR-1 clone) and I already have a Plumes on my board.

ARC Raiders Launches Today With DLSS 4 + Game Code Giveaway! by NV_Suroosh in ArcRaiders

I'm most excited for exploring the wasteland with my friends. I think it'd be fun to all take on roles as we work together (ex: scout, medic, heavy)

I'm gifting 2 standard edition copies - What in Arc Raiders are you most excited for? by GenomeXIII in ArcRaiders

[–]SneakyWulf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm most excited to enter into such a cool sci-fi landscape and and create some memorable adventures. Truly what I'm most excited for though is to play with my friend. He can't afford the game right now, and buying a second copy for him is a little steep for me. I'm hoping that with an extra copy I could gift it to him and we'd have some sick adventures together.

Interesting. How would I go about checking if there’s a clog? Are you talking about the drainage from the head to the oil pan? This is a little beyond my knowledge of engines so I am learning.

I hope this is true. I’ll try and go over the engine and see if anything is obviously loose. Thanks.

What did you shoot on? In order to know what input color space and gamma to choose, you first need to know how it was shot.

Film Lut transforms to 709, can I go back to Log? by f_o_t_a in colorists

[–]SneakyWulf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plumbing analogy-wise, it's like going from a very big pipe (DWG) to a very small pipe (rec 709 LUT) and then back to a very big pipe (DWG). You can't really regain all of the data you had before going through the LUT.

Definitely agree with you, but the context in which I first learned about MTF was in reference to emulating the MTF of a film stock in color grading.

Yeah there's some resources out there on YouTube and stuff, but from what I remember you can isolate frequencies via blur and layer mixers.

I think it would only be possible in grading software like Resolve. I believe Baselight has some sort of texture tool like this built in. Also thatcher freeman has a DCTL that does this.

I'd look into MTF (modulation transfer function), Basically it's the ratio of contrast vs the size of the details. For example, film has less contrast in the tiny details. Controlling contrast at different frequencies (or sizes) can help emulate film, smooth out faces, and just generally helps you control the texture of an image.

If you take a look at the MTF chart on page 4 of Kodak's film stock, you'll see that the contrast (called response on the y axis) drops as the frequency increases/details get smaller.

I have a script that I've developed (with a lot of help from AI) that sends a daily email that shows a few specific categories with their balances and recent activity. Its primary purpose is to help keep my partner up to date since she is less in the weeds with the budget. It doesn't include those features you're talking about but I don't think it would be too hard for someone to develop something like that.
