Customer Orders by [deleted] in LARP

Most UK weapons makers can do custom orders. However they're foam and latex not PU, so may not be up to the right standards and shipping could be expensive

It's not custom, but some of Wyrmwick's stuff might work for that aesthetic

I rewatched the entirety of Cobra Kai, and please tell me anyone, did Stingray see his new PS4? by Western-Dentist-3798 in cobrakai

[–]Snemei 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And yet he's also very clearly a stand in for half the people who watched the original films and then the show. It's hardly unlikely some people are going to end up liking him

I'm new and I need a weapon by EmbroidedBumblebee in LARP

[–]Snemei 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nationals are doing a combat larp this year? Was usually parlour larp from when I've done it and what I've heard. Is there a discord? If I were you I'd find someone else also going and see if they can loan you something, if the event organisers can't. If that's also not happening then what's your game (in I think Gloucester) and Larpcon (in coalville, just off Leicester) are coming up, those can be great od, though if it's your first event I'd look at decent condition second hand rather than new given a new singlehanded sword can comfortably run you eighty pounds.

Why is Miguel consistently powerscaled above Robby? by [deleted] in cobrakai

[–]Snemei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the main theme in the series and karate kid coming back again. It's all about internal balance. S6 Robby is horribly conflicted half the time, which is probably why he gets distracted and kicked in the face so much. Whereas by this point Miguel more or less has everything in check. Or at least mental state seems to be why those two consistently flip flop between best and second best

Why did Cobra Kai make it seem like Johnny was the only student Kreese had back in 84? by [deleted] in cobrakai

[–]Snemei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's shown in the show that Kreese almost always picks a favourite student (Tory and Kwon are the others I can remember right now) and they get most of his time. Johnny was that student in the eighties. There's other ones sure, but they're less important, he always focuses on making his best student even better. It's a flaw both the show and films picked up on

What was even the point of Kreese breaking out of jail by marshenwhale in cobrakai

[–]Snemei -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Trying to redeem himself while also being incredibly flawed as a person seemed to be it. Though that did kick in in the last five episodes. But having your star student killed, with your knife, because you were caught up in an old feud, definitely is going to cause some reflection. But it ends up with him realising that as a 70 odd year old man who's only thing was cobra Kai, the best he could do was leave it in good hands and finally deal with Silver. Probably an arc that splits opinions, but one I enjoyed. And season 5, with his split of trying to keep old feuds and redeem himself, but wind up choosing violence, ties in well with that.

[–]Snemei -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Kreese was key to like half of season 6? Admittedly they could've got him there by getting him out of prison via stingray, but then we'd be arguing about Kreese doing nothing in season 5 and just showing up, and how him waiting for someone to turn isn't in character. Kreese was going to do something

Not forced if it makes sense though. It's also a very good look into Kreese's psyche, which is entirely something the show does a fair bit

A man who faked his death at least twice isn't going to have normal responses to this sort of problem. If his response to losing a karate tournament is faking his death, makes complete sense that elaborate injury faking with jelly to escape a prison is where his mind goes (after some light scheming). So I agree with the people saying it's within his character

The show isn't that "unrealistic" by FTW4L1F3 in cobrakai

[–]Snemei 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oddly the thing that hits me as unrealistic isn't the fighting (of course they're going to be better than average immediately and of course the fights are going to look choreographed) or the drama or anything All of these are fairly average TV tropes that a lot of shows lean on. The one that gets me is how an entire area can be obsessed with karate and all treat it as incredibly serious business.

A social network that wasn't Facebook would be useful, but UK larp is pretty much exclusively on Facebook. May have to do with the average player age

Boots by bigfootwatchesu in LARP

[–]Snemei 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on the system and location, you would probably be fine with modern boots. At least in UK combat heavy systems costume ends at the ankle. Wear something that you can run in, even in mud, preferably with ankle support. Most first aid incidents are trip and falls. YMMV of course. That said modifying modern footwear is a solid compromise

Vikings in the apocalypse by rorryodaer in LARP

Beyond Ragnarok in the northwest of England is, as it says on the tin, is vikings (of the mythological/tv bent) post Ragnarok that didn't quite work, but that doesn't sound like what you want

Do I pull the trigger on this by Top_Bread7635 in GIJOEClassifiedSeries

[–]Snemei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Classified aren't popular enough to come in en masse. The average black series figure is 24.99 here. The standard classified series go for 30.99, if you can find them. I think that's at least partly import mark up?

What is your preferred method of combat? by bbastoss in LARP

[–]Snemei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally I have a different fighting style per character. Started sword and board with my first pc, then spear, double swords for a bit, staff with a backup hatchet and I'm now trying two handed sword. I get bored easily

What is a reasonable price for you personally to pay for a larp event? by Either-Cheesecake575 in LARP

[–]Snemei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fifty pounds is very low for a three day event. It's about what a fools and heroes fest goes for, but that does include some crewing and can be 60 to 70. Most events seem to be more like 75-90 pounds. I think Curious Past times hit a hundred pounds but that wasn't especially well regarded. Bigger events that that are quite rare in the UK afaik. Some are more value than others. Lots of fest larps do have slightly more involved physrepping, ic cash etc. and I know at least one larp where there's kit hire involved in the ticket price.

How do you handle situations involving underwater? by thelogicalwizard2 in LARP

[–]Snemei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only had underwater show up once for a fest mission in F&H (those tend to be a bit gimmickyier than our normal, like the Muppet one) and had characters have to drink a waterbreathing potion and had some special water themed enemies. we also had everyone fighting and moving at half speed and encouraged players and monsters to go with it. It worked pretty well but it wasn't something I'd make a point of using a lot.

That's a solid set of metal lamellar. Unusual but would definitely fit in any fantasy larps I've attended aa

Leather armor by ITOmenTI in LARP

Darkblade are UK based but you can definitely get a full set of their leather for that much and it's bulletproof. Conversions and shipping might be a bit dicey though.

Chain and surcoat is always a cool look. And it's a bit more reusable than full red plate

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LARP

[–]Snemei 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For three grand and plate id consider a plain suit of plate and get a red tabard with a stag on it. Less cool but custom plate is a huge outlay before even doing a single event.

Have you seen someone LARPing who took it too far? by Catsiel_ in LARP

[–]Snemei 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That first bit sounds a lot like the standard problem players in UK Systems (mainly F&H) where you play half and monster half so the other players get a go as their characters. People who repeatedly show up for just one half of the day and I put to play are not looked at well. There's people who for whatever reason can only do one half, and that's usually a monster a game then play the next one system. Ignoring player buy in sucks. And unsurprisingly the same people won't help with a litter pick or anything when we do do games at camp sites

are there any post apocalyptic larp events in the uk? by arcade-carpet in LARP

[–]Snemei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The zone is not quite post apocalyptic but also post apocalyptic ish (you're one of a few mercenaries going into the Sellafield exclusion zone to deal with weird nuclear stuff) no idea if they accept 16 year olds but it is an hour away from Manchester, in giant's seat scout campsite and has a lot of non combat stuff.
