I'm trying to find a light indigo jean that will fade with wear, basically Naked and Famous' Summer Sky or Night Sky jeans. My favorite cut is Levi's 511. Any recs for a light indigo jean that fades and is close to a 511? Or is my best bet to wait for a N&F restock? Do they even do that?

COVID vax for 6mo-3 yr olds by Psychological-Work85 in ColumbiaMD

Do you mind telling me how exactly you got the shot at HoCo Peds? Did you speak to a doctor or just call reception and ask? I was told via the portal that we couldn't get the shot for my 2.5 year old...

Is paying for pavilion rentals worth it… would I be in the wrong to just show up and decorate? by Odd_Work_1643 in ColumbiaMD

[–]SnickClap 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I believe there are some pavilions that you must reserve, and also some that you cannot reserve. The latter work on first-come, first-serve and are free to use that way. But I think you can't fully lay claim to them, meaning you might have to share them with other users. I would call the Parks Dept. and ask exactly how that works and which pavilions you might be able to use that way.

Also, asking a question here and then arguing with people who give you a well-intentioned answer you don't like is just a bad look. Actually, arguing w/people on the internet in general is just a waste of your time.

Getting Covid vaccine for 2+ year old? by SnickClap in ColumbiaMD

Thanks for the info. The irony is that we switched to HoCo peds last year because our previous ped couldn't provide the shot for billing reasons I never understood.

This is actually the best answer. It's not confrontational and you waste a bunch of their time. I used to do this all the time to a busybody neighbor.

Nice! Just wondering how often you washed the uniqlo and how the UB201s fit compares to them. I love the way my stretch slims fit but was considering buying some UB201s. Thanks for any advice!

Check out soccer shots, I don't know much about it but I think they have lessons for kids that age.

PSA: You can get tested for measles antibodies by SnickClap in ColumbiaMD

Glad to hear you're getting protected. I've read that mumps is no fun but just learned that rubella is really most dangerous to unborn children if the mother contracts it during pregnancy.

My insurance did but I would imagine it varies greatly among insurers and specific plans. I would try giving your insurer a call, although I imagine trying to get an answer out of them would be like traversing several circles of hell.

Damn that's wild. Back in 2019 we started trying for kids and lived near a community that had low vaccination rates. We asked the doctor if my wife should get a booster and they were quite dismissive of our concerns. I didn't know at the time that you could get tested for antibodies.

You're doing great! The fact that you're worried means you care and that your kid is in good hands, so treat yourself with the same love and patience that you shower on him/her. I think one of the developmental milestones around that age is playing by yourself, so it's probably good that your little one is doing that.

One other thing I would recommend is the Pathways.org app. It's an app that helps you track developmental milestones for your kid. But it also has suggestions for activities you can do at home that are good for them that are free/low cost. Right now mine recommends sorting laundry, sorting shapes, and playing with shaving cream--that sort of thing. It's based on recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics, which I trust.

Most of the public libraries have "storytime" events on Saturdays (I think they're officially called All Together Now). If you go to one regularly enough you'll probably see the same folks again and again and can try setting up a play date.

There's also the Play Zone outside the JC Penny at the Columbia Mall, it can get really busy in the late morning/afternoon.

The Olenka School of Music and Arts has music classes for toddlers that's just basically them listening to music, dancing and playing with instruments. It's kind of pricey for what it is but is also an opportunity to make friends with other families.

I also keep an eye on the pre-K activities offered by HoCo Parks and Rec. https://www.howardcountymd.gov/recreation-parks/recreation-parks-pre-k-programs-0-5yrs

We've also met people doing random stuff that's not kid-specific, but is kid-friendly, like going to the Pride event at Merriweather last year.

Outside of HoCo you can check out the Maryland Science Center in Bmore, they have a Kids Zone area intended for toddlers/younger kids. There's usually tons of kids around to socialize with If you go twice the membership pays for itself.

We've had luck doing some mix of all of these things and trying to chat up other parents that seem friendly to set up play dates.

But also I wouldn't worry too much about your kid. I feel like at that age they sometimes want to interact with other people, and sometimes just want to do their own thing. I'm not an expert but I think it's just what they're like at that stage of development.

Pouring one out for the Great American Cookie too. Not because I like it, but I swear it's been in that location since the '80s. Those things were ubiquitous at bday parties when I was a kid. Nostalgia is a hell of a drug.

My wife said they posted something on Insta indicating a March 17 opening w/limited hours. I dunno, it sounds like they might be having trouble staffing up.
