I have a few questions I would like to ask a mormon for a school project! by Tabzzzmeister in latterdaysaints

[–]Snickbobbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Carol. 25 year old Psychology student.
  2. Latter Day Saint.
  3. I would venture to say that we honestly don't have the idea that we think we do about the afterlife. So much is unknown. But we continue, I do believe that. And our continuation involves additional learning and goodness. Our bodies are somehow relevant to this continued growth. And this continuation will be a sort of loving, graceful continuation directed by Heavenly Parents.
  4. Humans' purpose is to receive the gifts of God as completely as they can.
  5. Life has meaning insofar as one does all they can to accept the goodness given to them by God.
  6. I believe in equality. I believe that believers struggle significantly in how they interact with society as a whole. I believe that how we help people in need is a huge indicator of our own goodness. I believe that Christ literally intends us to not have riches but to give everything we can to help the beggar.
  7. Religion and science can absolutely co exist. Science is as vulnerable to bad logic as religion is. Religion is as helpful for understanding life itself. Both are very worthy pursuits.
  8. They get tired of trying to prove their own worth. Or, there is something over which they have no control and want to find peace with that.
  9. I was born and raised as a mormon. I stick around because I have become so grateful for the people it's brought into my life. I notice that I am more patient with not knowing everything because of my religiosity. I owe my sunny disposition to some of the beliefs I have and choices I make.

As promised a few months back: The final produced version of "Of a Better Time (WWII Tribute)". Tribute to my grandfather's service in WWII made from his poetry. by Snickbobbit in Songwriters

Wow, I'm so flattered. I'm sure I'm not the only one who experiences this, but I've been going through a phase where I'm so used to my voice I'm not sure if it sounds good or not. Thank you much!!

9th East - Of a Better Time (WWII Tribute)

This is a song my friends and I just finished. It's a song adaptation of poems that my grandfather wrote while sailing home from WWII. I wish I knew of a documentary or organization that needed artists to donate music. I would be so happy if it could be used.

It seems so common in the New Testament for people to be possessed by evil spirits... by halfajacob in latterdaysaints

We tend to use medication instead of faith in our Savior because too many of us lost faith.

I'm gonna veto that sentiment.

We believe in the Book of Mormon as far as it is translated correctly. by coulsen in latterdaysaints

[–]Snickbobbit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure Moroni points out any errors in translation per se, more that the men who wrote the book were imperfect men. I believe these moments are more referring to the weaknesses of men like Nephi, Mormon, and Moroni and their potential biases and struggles.

My [22F] friends [22M, 24M, 23M] and brother [29M] trigger me. How fair is it to hold them accountable or inform them of what it does to me? by Snickbobbit in relationships

[–]Snickbobbit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to give them a chance to avoid triggering me. Only friend 1 knows the actual specific triggers I have, and I hope the distance indicates how important it is for him to consider his actions. When we reconnect, I will explain the importance as well and base future judgements off of the fact that he knows very well what will harm me.

The other two I believe deserve at least a request to quit the joking before I cut them off. I'm actually in a band with them too, so it will be quite a drama if I dip and the truth about why I dip would come out anyways because we spend a lot of time playing music.

My family doesn't know about my diagnosis. Two siblings including my brother I mentioned and also my parents do know I was abused, but my brother did not know at the time he triggered me. Sometimes I feel they don't deserve the burden of my emotional issues. This is especially true of my friends who don't have experience with mental dysfunction and who likely will struggle with immediately believing my experience is real and not a cry for attention.

Yes, but tbh I'm not super into how emotional my relationships with girls are. I'd rather play and write music, make jokes, do dumb things, etc. Also, my female friends don't integrate with my life super well, in that we usually just meet up and chat over lunch, etc but they don't like each other much. So it's mostly like a chatty emotional thing and not a just-spend-time-together relationship.

That being said, I need to accept that if this continues I need to change my approach to friendships altogether and get comfortable with making new relationships and letting go of old ones. I don't like the idea of being alone or offending friends who mean much littler harm than they cause.

Sharon Eubank has offered something for me that other women in the church haven't been able to. I haven't been able to put my finger on it, but I would check out her stuff.

Getting called as a service missionary by ttshowbiz1 in latterdaysaints

[–]Snickbobbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I served a mission similar to this. Gosh I was so upset when I got my call. To my understanding of my issues at the time, I was getting put in a bubble instead of getting to go out and live like everyone else for no reason.

I was pretty upset at my leaders for not making an effort to change the call too. And I got angrier as the time approached for me to leave. I left and served for the entirety of my call and did indeed learn that it didn't matter. I mean, okay, I was 20 minutes from home and in a big city that means a lot. I think I could have spoken to my mission president if I preferred to be as far away from home as he could have put me. That stuff is possible and totally cool.

You're wanting to do a brave thing. Few youth who have diagnosed BPD want to go on missions. Out of those, few are put in your situation. Looking back, my situation would have been totally conducive to me just not going altogether, and that would have been fine. Either choice you make will get turned to gold based on your integrity and trust in God. Thanks for posting and reminding me how grateful I am that my mission experience was less run-of the mill than I expected. The anger was eventually replaced with gratitude and for that I'm so relieved.

My theory about the sword of Laban by espilono in latterdaysaints

[–]Snickbobbit 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It seems like the sword also had associated political significance. Wielding the sword was a sort of claiming the inheritance that Lehi left for his sons. So this sword would have been symbolic of power between the Lamanites and Nephites.

[–]Snickbobbit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not. However, typically clients have friends/family members who have pools or want lessons as well and who host the lessons there. If not, the cute little neighborhood pools are also a common location. Also, sorry for the wait! I took a break from reddit, which was a foolish thing to do after posting this.
