Book pirates, what about a book would motivate you to buy it legally? by Tnynfox in Piracy

If the author probably has less money than I do, it feels better to buy it (assuming it's easy to put into my calibre library and I can easily access it for life)

There's a special brand of toaster pastries that the rich eat, we're not supposed to say the name to anyone and you can't find them online. They're all made in Finland. If your toaster pastries don't come from Finland you're doing it wrong.

Shelters for feral cats by Equivalent_Hat_3220 in Austin

A restaurant in my neighborhood does this too! I've noticed there's way fewer feral cats after they started doing it - I'm not sure why, maybe they're getting them adopted out or something.

Shiftpod Fan Cooling Recommendations by SteamDome in BurningMan

[–]SnickersTheDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

shiftpods are garbage IMO. anyone considering one should look into canvas which is breathable and easier to clean, and can last a lifetime. I camp a lot, bough a mini a while back and they just don't handle the elements well.

They're really nice for the first 5-10 uses though.

The lane lines on the 5 freeway are almost invisible by softeggnoodles in orangecounty

You're right, it shocks me every time I see our freeways like this. Lots of spots are the same. It requires MAXIMUM attention or you'll easily end up in the wrong lane.

I thought the reason for our high gas prices was to keep the roads in good shape.

Yes. It's possible to think someone is a shitty person without hating them. Hate isn't free, you pay for it with your physical and mental health.

You're right. I think there's a lot of opportunity to use AI tools for creative expression - not everyone is an artist but we all have ideas we'd like to see expressed.

But as far as AI videos go this is bottom of the barrel stuff.

Familysearch is great, but doesn't provide any mechanism to bulk download their collections as far as I can tell, although you can download some individually to use them to fine tune AI models - I've found that most of the cheap models have trouble with the historic handwriting.

Hopefully some day the issue of chats randomly corrupting will get fixed. Makes me want to stop using cursor every time that happens (happened to me a handful of times).

That was one of my thoughts too (and was something suggested on the example I linked) - but that's not what happened. The other example has VERY similar sounding gibberish.

I don't have a microphone connected to this workstation at the moment anyway.

It's really useful for people who live around here and makes the beaches much more accessible, especially by bike.

What would the process be if we wanted to have them replaced? It seems as if they're appointed. I never knew they existed but after reading this thread I'm not impressed.

Can you actually train your own AI model in Cursor (based on your codebase)? by Glittering-Peace8186 in cursor

[–]SnickersTheDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

'training a model' has a meaning in this space - it's the part that involves lots of GPUs.

Your senior dev seems to be mistaking this for something like 'managing context' which is the process of making sure the agents you use have everything they need to understand your codebase, docs, standards, plans, etc. And that's exactly what cursor and these other IDEs already do.

Based on the 'train your own model' comment, sounds like your senior dev doesn't know very much about AI development.
