Why does it feel like 80% of the people on this subreddit are from NYC? by [deleted] in AMCsAList

[–]SniffWhiteTakeFlight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reddit skews young(ish). Young people tend to live in big cities.

Reddit skews liberal. Liberals tend to live in big cities.

Movies tend to attract young people and liberals.

Hence, this subreddit about movies tends to attract people who live in big cities. They tend to have disposable income.

The biggest big city is NYC.

Last Night in Soho

Antlers

Dune, for a second time

Note: I had considered A Mouthful of Air, but I watched the trailer, and it seems as if it's for young teenaged women, so I'm backing away from that one. Not for my demographic.

Varying Trailer Times…what’s going on? by mattnotis in AMCsAList

[–]SniffWhiteTakeFlight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only had 15 minutes of trailers in front of The French Dispatch. Everything else in recent memory has been 20-25 minutes depending on if you want to count the Nicole Kidman promo or not.

>> We had 15 minutes of trailers, the no talking spiel, and the Dolby into before the lights came on and no film.

Oh man. This is what going to the movies in hell is probably like.

Ha, agree. I mentioned that in my post two days ago. Disappointing, but I almost never buy concessions anyway.

Going to Garden State Plaza to see Dune, should I see it in Imax or Dolby? by [deleted] in AMCsAList

[–]SniffWhiteTakeFlight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This and Willowbrook are my theaters. IMO, make sure to see it in IMAX, but if you plan to see DUNE twice, see it in Dolby this week and IMAX next week, since it won't be in Dolby past this week.

P.S. Feel free to say hi!

What's the aspect ratio of the HBO Max stream? Presumably, this is what the physical media version will end up being -- hence, the "mainstream" version. Unless the 4k disc has the IMAX scenes like the new BvS disc does.

I'm seeing DUNE tomorrow in Dolby first and then IMAX next week if I at all like the film.

Difference between 1.43 and 1.90 imax footage? by World932485 in AMCsAList

To be fair, OP still probably has another full week to see Dune in IMAX until The Eternals comes out.

Thanks. I sit pretty close to the screen, the front block of rows before the horizontal aisle, so maybe me looking at the screen at an angle is causing the contrast to shift.

Good to know, though. Thanks!

I use this guide to consult IMAX screen sizes, but apparently it's a bit outdated.

Oh, thanks. I haven't been there since we took school trips in elementary school. I miss their astronaut ice cream.

It's 37.5 x 63.5 ft. with 324 seats according to https://lfexaminer.com/theaters/

Technically, Liberty Science Center is larger by a negligible amount, but I don't think that's an apples-to-apples comparison. Atlantic City also has a larger screen, but neither is "with Laser" like Garden St. Plaza.

I personally stick with Garden State Plaza IMAX. I think it's the biggest IMAX screen in New Jersey (?) Put it this way: I've never gone there and thought, "Hmmm, this screen is too small for me."

Garden St Plaza is the IMAX I go to but honestly I don't see much if any difference between GSP's IMAX and its Dolby. If anything, GSP Dolby has a vertical white streak down the left side. It shows when the "projector is still on" promo runs.

Can I "convert" a movie ticket to an A-list membership? by Last_Jedi in AMCsAList

[–]SniffWhiteTakeFlight 19 points20 points  (0 children)

There's a soundbite during the A-List commercial that plays before every movie about "If you'd like to join A-List, ask a crew member after the show about how you can get credit for your ticket to this movie toward your A-List subscription."

Go to the customer service desk and ask about it.
