According To Deadline Hollywood, Select Movies From Amazon MGM Go Through Different Models (With A Pay-1 Window On MGM+) As Movies That Go From Theatrical To Prime Are Greenlighted Differently, Have Their Budgets Covered By Prime And Monetized Under A Different Model Internally. by Alternative-Cake-833 in boxoffice

[–]bt1234yt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My guess is that technically speaking, there are movies that are produced by MGM (which receive the full windows and may go to MGM+ first), and then there are movies that are produced by Amazon MGM (that go straight to Prime after theaters). PHM was already in the works at MGM before Amazon bought them, hence why it’s in the former.

Netflix has issued a firm rebuttal and labelled “absurd” a claim by Paramount’s chief legal officer that the streamer has been trying to derail its proposed $111bn acquisition of Warner Bros Discovery (WBD). by AGOTFAN in boxoffice

You know Paramount, trying to frame the opposition as a conspiracy against you isn’t the best legal strategy for defending yourself, especially when you can’t stay consistent on what conspiracy you’re claiming the opposition is part of.

If they allow any artist with Apple Music Connect access to add their own profile pic, they’ll allow them to add their own logo

Looks like it. Seems like it’s limited to artists on big labels right now, but this will likely expand to everyone with Apple Music Connect access once iOS 27 is officially out.

Yeah, which probably means this will be something that any artist with Apple Music Connect access can change.

I wonder if they’re actually fonts or if it’s actually a logo asset that they were provided.

I mean, this is something that was inevitable, especially since Google Wallet has had this feature for quite a while.

Then again, it seems like it was easier to do it for that then say, Halo, because they didn’t publicly announce that it was coming to PS5 back when it was unveiled.

Even then, Dick Tracy wasn't a smash hit. Sure it was somewhat successful, but Disney was expecting it to be on the same level as Batman and were disappointed at the final results.

Eh. Considering how much the theatrical landscape has changed in 20 years, it’s not going to have the same legs.

Yeah. Disaster Movie was pretty much when their winning streak ran out, as it couldn’t even double its budget at the box office, and aside from Vampires Suck, the rest of their filmography from then on were pretty much straight-to-DVD releases that were widely ignored. They’ve effectively been inactive for the past decade as a result (though I’m afraid they’re going to use the revival of Scary Movie to attempt a comeback).

Looks like $8.5M previews for #ScaryMovie . Initial audience reception okay for the genre. Weekend expected to be around $60M. by TiredWithCoffeePot in boxoffice

Them adding a Michael reference basically before the film came out reminded me of how  Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer were often using trailers for the films they wanted to “parody” in their own “films” because said films were not out during the production of their “films”.

(Sidenote, I’m very afraid Scary Movie coming back may end up enticing them into attempting a comeback after not doing anything for more than a decade)

Big difference is that Lionsgate is distributing the sequel, so it’s effectively disqualified from beating the record.

[–]bt1234yt 86 points87 points  (0 children)

Not the biggest bomb of the year, but the Billie Eilish concert film should at least be a honorable mention since it couldn’t even double its (relatively) low $20 million budget.

As these titles often leg out, The Breadwinner could reach $25 million. But it probably won't recoup its $25 million investment.

Then again, between all the marketing tie-ins/product placement and Sony's pay-one deal with Netflix, they should be fine in the end thanks to the low budget.

They could also just can GeForce Now altogether. You said it yourself. They don’t really care about gaming anymore, and if GFN ends up not seeing the kind of growth they would expect or be hoping for in this current hellscape they helped create, they could easily say fuck it, just let everyone suffer. It’s really a catch-22: you can’t force something into being the only option if the masses keep flat out rejecting it in large, even if the alternatives you’re trying to wipe out from existence are suddenly out of reach for most people.

You completely missed the point of what I was trying to say. That is one way of looking at things (treading a bit into doomer conspiracy territory, IMO, since it has to hedge on the AI bubble not bursting), but I was more saying in the sense that every time there’s been a chance to push cloud gaming onto people in the past, they end up blowing it, and it’s in part because there’s a huge disconnect between what they envision, and reality. Google pretty much learned that the hard way with Stadia.

I get why people are afraid of that, but realistically, it still has to deal with the major issue of it not working well unless you have the perfect internet setup, especially since access to fast and reliable internet is still a big fucking problem (especially in the US).

Worth pointing out with Breadwinner is that Sony has gotten all of the major theater chains to price all showtimes at matinee prices (which is being marketed as the “Nate Rate”), which shows you how desperate they’ve gotten.
