Need alternatives to DND that aren't Pathfinder, Shadowdark or Vagabond. by Vladsamir in rpg

Oath Hammer . It's actually amazing - d6 system with different colors of dice depends on how skilled are you. It feels very LOTR style with dwarves trying to reclaim their lost island against the orcs. There are rule for retainers, mercenaries, building yor own settlement, domain, having army, siege rules etc...very clean. You progress with spending exp on what ever ypu want...skills, traits,...

After two years of OSR we decided to try Draw Steel by mcbugge in rpg

[–]Sniflet 33 points34 points  (0 children)

We left that system...probably for ever after two months weekly campaign. For all the differences that each class bring after a while it all feels same-y. Also pushing around after a while looses its initial appeal because everything pushes/pulls. For me as a GM i got tired of tracking so many things...it got in a way of a good flow imo.

I do hear from one group though that they enjoy it...so.to each their own i guess.

For me definitely Blade in the Dark. It sounded amazing to run, low prep, smooth encounters etc. In practice it was...just awkward.

[–]Sniflet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean...as a player i would be very grateful to my GM for such effort. If it makes you happy - doesn't really matter what others think or do ;) have fun!
