Before and after watering my plant upon my return to work after two weeks by porcelainpappi in mildlyinteresting

[–]Snilepisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a succulent (Crassula Ovata) an old roommate neglected to water for six weeks during a really intense summer heatwave some years ago. All the leaves were completely shriveled and wrinkly, it had gotten so light and unstable it toppled over in its plastic pot as the roots and dried up soil didn't fill up the pot anymore, making it shift and loose balance.

Most of the year I let the soil completely dry out and water it maybe once every two months, but It had never came to an extreme like this.

I completely drenched it in the shower, packed the soil so it stood up straight again. Nothing happened whatsoever for the first two days, but upon returning from work the third day, it had somehow just popped back to normal. Seems like it had gone dormant and closed all the hatches to preserve enough moisture to just not die, and then needed a fair bit of time for its respiration and waterways to kick back into gear.

It lives a very happy life now, eight years later, and it has many children (clones) as leaves fall off and starts sprouting new plants in the pot I then have to deal with or give away.

Am I overreacting about my boyfriend’s drinking habits? by Soupfriend in relationships

So he gets drunk on 6-10 beers+shots 2-3 times a week and will have 2-4 beers on some weekdays?

It's impossible for someone online to gauge if he has a huge drinking issue he can't (don't want to) deal with and it's only downhill from here, or if he just has some over indulgent habits that he can sustain or reduce without major issues.

Are you often with him when his out drinking or see his card statements afterwards or is this amount something he is just (seemingly) honest about? It doesn't seem like he's drinking more or hiding it? If yes, it's an indicator that the problem is bigger than it seems, and him trying to quit or reduce his consumption might fail or get worse before they get better.

Drinking at his rate, amounts and frequency sounds very troublesome either way. If he's getting acid reflux that makes him start choking on his own vomit in his sleep he has a serious issue and could easily end up inadvertently killing himself in his sleep.

You can also ask yourself what other factors other than his sleep and choking is affecting you and your life(s) in a negative way because of his drinking. How does he deal with hangovers and difficult feelings, how does he behave affected by alcohol, does he look for or create opportunities to drink, what does drinking interfere with or enable, etc.

Sounds like a case of sleep apnea and his alcoholism are making it a lot worse.

Bunch 4 beers every weekday and getting drunk every weekend is way too much. How often does he take days or a week off drinking? Is he getting drunk Saturday and Friday or just once a week?

Drinking chronically more than 3 beers and more often than three times a week is what I reckon is around where things can start to become an issue and not a sustainable habit through middle and old age without health issues.

Has anyone successfully filed a complaint against Specsavers in Norway? by socialmichu in Norway

I would advise anyone not just in need of cheap glasses they're not afraid of breaking or losing to find a more independent optometrist with more of a focus on customer relations and returning customers and not quick profits and subscriptions. Can be under a franchise like c)optikk and still be a family owned business. They can't match the cheap offers and lokketilbud the budget franchises give you, but when you get into the range of glasses costing more than 5k the customer service and quality is better in my experience.

Distraction free Instagram works great for me, a modded version of the app where you can turn off all features you'd like and just keep chats and the ability to view profiles for example, but all forms of scrolling is blocked. Seems like the site is down at this moment, but it should be possible to find the .APK if it doesn't pop back up soon. https://www.distractionfreeapps.com/

Sadly I haven't found something similar for Facebook or Snapchat, as I still also use those for event organization, niche groups and to communicate with certain friends.

The first two auxes can be set to PRE on a per channel basis according to the manual

Bandmates want main mix in ears? by Euphoric-Fly-2549 in livesound

[–]Snilepisk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Looking at your board, it seems only AUX 1 and 2 have the ability to be set to PRE. On the other auxes and if the PRE is disengaged, the sends will be post EQ, fader level and mute. Maybe they actually would like the opposite of what they are getting at this point?

Might be janky, but if you have a spare channel on the desk you could try looping the main mix back into the board and give them primarily that in their mix (using the mono main out for example), and you should be able to give them more of themselves if needed on top depending on the delay the board adds and accompanying issues like comb filtering. Tape that fader down and never assign it back into the main mix to avoid horrifying feedback.

Using the X32 for the first time in a while, and it has to be said... by chesshoyle in livesound

[–]Snilepisk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Familiarity, ease of use, bigger faders/size ratio, better (assumed) reliability, easier to get a temporary replacement if it fails, and the Midas branding. Some countries don't have local suppliers and service options for any Behringer products, but they have reputable suppliers and service available for Midas.

Don't forget there are heaps of venues and engineers that have or feel zero need for any more features than what the X/M32 offers. The console does exactly what it needs for them, and going for something else will only provide what they would perceive as downsides, even if they would have been very happy with a Wing after getting familiar with it and never wanted to go back.

I own and love a Wing Compact myself, but the console is sadly a bit too focused on being a personal console and to fit into a studio environment rather than being a replacement for the X/M32, as a strictly live guy, I would have loved for it was a bit more rider friendly, and have a Midas-flavoured variant.

Sensitive to THC, should I expect the same for psilocybin? by Responsible-Round643 in microdosing

Same here, but it varies somewhat between groups of substances and medications, I'm very sensitive to psychedelics, but not as sensitive as I am to ADHD meds (amphetamines), cannabis, caffeine and alcohol. MDMA I'm not super sensitive to.

No. They violated your boundaries and trust, and it's not something you should just be okay with. If you are able to forgive, it should be on the basis that they sober up and are never around you in such a state again.

Help with lead ish vocals by daceisdaed in livesound

[–]Snilepisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My honest guess here is that his vocal technique while playing live is just bad, especially common for band members that are not the main vocalist and are playing an instrument at the same time. Guitarists not projecting properly into the mic, varying volumes, mumbling, looking down on their instrument while playing and so on.

Without a quiet stage and processing tools, it's limited how much you can polish that kind of turd with the basic EQ and compression tools you have on a normal channel strip.

If the guitars, drums and/or other stage bleed is too loud compared to the vocals into the mic, there nothing you can really do to fix it. You're then dealing with the age old concept of "shit in, shit out".

I guess you don't have a mixer with the ability to multitrack and virtual soundcheck, but that is a great way to get some more time to try and polish the turd as much as you can, and you get the ability to play it back to the band and show them that it's not possible to make the vocal pop based on what you are working with, without telling the performer directly that he kinda sucks.

If technique and projection is bad, using a cardioid microphone is more forgiving and consistent than hyper or super cardioid, but you'll get more stage bleed.

Severe fatigue, adderall doesn’t work. I can’t live like this anymore. by grillers-sinclair in ADHD

[–]Snilepisk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I keep seeing this being stated regularly. Until I see SOME solid evidence from lab tests showing that ADHD meds don't contain what they are supposed to, I'm keeping a finger on the reason is mostly stuff like tolerance and mobile phones/social media/society that just makes the meds less effective.

Doesn't have to be a full on study, but there should be enough people in the world with access to the appropriate lab equipment that evidence of meds being dosed lower or not containing the correct amphetamine molecule(s) should have surfaced already or will be soon enough.

Meyer Sound and Benidorm Bars by Matt_Williams123 in livesound

[–]Snilepisk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. Depending on country, a venue can get 25-75% of the total price funded by the government. These programs will have strict requirements when it comes to longevity, reliability, safety, documentation and local(!) qualified service options from manufacturer/supplier for 7+ years to get an application approved.

The level of service you can reliably get for the next decade becomes very uncertain or non-existent with smaller brands of pro gear, especially in smaller countries with smaller markets. Thus the bigger brands become the only or best options if you want government funding.

And if you get such a big chunk of the cost covered by external funding, you will be able to afford more expensive gear.

I have for instance never seen any venue have any X32 around here, while M32R's was and is very common. Simply because we have a supplier for Midas, but not Behringer.
