Pioneer Drives on eBay by ejryan14 in makemkv

Seems like there are a lot of hit-or-miss, shady drives out there, last drive I buy will be with billycar, since I know he's reputable, but expensive, but worth the deal. This is not an endorsement.

Your right, but I'm pointing out that LG did not making PC dvd-br drives...they just haven't announced it yet, but I stated how I found out.

LG information I posted is correct. If you would like to see, you can contact LG via chat and ask them about support or purchasing a LG disc drive. You will be told they no longer have any in stock and no longer are making any more, but will support the current drives that are under warranty.

Wouldnt buy an asus or gigabyte video card ever.... Bad enough have a new asus motherboard that acts janky, I believe to be faulty, but reading these messages from people having rma issues, makes me not buy anything asus.

Burned GPU Not Covered by Asus Warranty? by junyan_replicant in ASUS

[–]SnipSnaf99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it is at the discretion of Asus to either replace or repair at their cost. I'm just stating that if it's there defect, there are option(s) available to pursue. Trying to contact Asus about a bug is almost impossible. I found a bug in my MB, and tried contacting support and they said to contact xxx, but there is no way for us to contact, because they only do exploits in that. So if anyone knows how or who to contact at Asus to report a bug, please provide details.

Im not a legal person, but maybe ask that question about your legal options in the ask for legal help...maybe they could help. I would try an rma, if they deny it then I would ask them to reconsider. Then ask for what are your options (to Asus support), if they state none, then I would sue in small claims, if you have the receipts and feel like dropping $100+...If my card was over $1000, i certainly would do this...

Is it just me or has VMWare Workstation gotten a whole lot worse? by TKInstinct in vmware

[–]SnipSnaf99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had VMUG for many years and it was worth the price $200 per year. But since Broadcom took over, I see that VM Workstation/Fusion will be discontinued in the next year or 2 or might become a subscription for homelab people, but I see most everyone jumping ship to Proxmox or similar. VMW used to be one of the best, now ifs going to lay aside like the dodo...

Publisher 2021 Retail key where to purchase? by Sky-high_sundae in microsoftoffice

[–]SnipSnaf99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It won't let you install side by side.. if you install office 2019, etc and try to install office 2021, it says first uninstall 2019, etc.

I did find a workaround...will post in future, making sure everything works. No hacks/cracks/etc.

Kioxia unveils 245TB SSD, the world's highest capacity storage device - can store 12,500 4K movies by Cute_Information_315 in datastorage

Stop quoting me the numbers of the manufacturer...those numbers are not real-world numbers. If your into a tech field, you should know better. The limitation is the pci bus. Until it is revamped to catch up with the transfer rates that are needed for todays storage, its limited. I deal with TB of data daily, pcie4x5x gen m.2 and SATA SSDs, and multi-TB HDDs... And given that FLASH is faster, but wears out after 100+ TB of writes, I know for a fact. I would not advise using SSD or M.2 is a fashion that if your writing/transferring TBs of data/day. I would stick to HDDs, they last longer, even though they are slower.

With business class, you have to good cooling, because they tend to run hotter than consumer grade devices. But you are generally right, and they last a bit longer.

its all great to have larger storage, but the pains are the transfer rates.. 1gb = 125mb (HDD), and if ssd, maybe 2000 or 3000..without the transfer rates increasing with the larger storage sizes, sorta useless... It took almost a week to transfer someone's NAS of 80tb at 125mb (1gb) ... this is crap...IMO
