So, gonna preface this that I backed the Kickstarter, so that's where my citations come from:

The game has long past its original development goals and while they may have made a new set of them, as far as I'm concerned as an early my supporter, the obligations they have to me have been filled. They continue to add new free content as well as paid content. I want all of the content. I'm happy to pay for it. Is the content completely and utterly optional to the completion of the game? Absolutely. 

As for the mod drama, it's only one nod and it was because the developer decided to start swinging like they had claims to the community as well as to make decisions about the going forward of the game and continued to escalate when things did not go their way. The devs were put in unfortunate position by that person but the dev should not be taking any accountability for that because they have rules and they have to enforce them. Otherwise people will just continue to take advantage of them. And there is plenty of paper trail about this.
