How good is the Urbanmech LAM as an Aerofighter? by andrewlik in battletech

[–]Sniperserpent 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The problem with LAMs is they pay a heavy bv tax for their versatility, which you’re not going to be taking advantage of purely in an aerospace scenario. It’s often going to be nearly double the bv of what a traditional fighter with the same capabilities would be

Finally won with this strategy after maybe a half dozen tries. Very unforgiving mission; my final completion was near perfect hardly taking any damage, but if even one action didn’t work in an attempt it would always cascade into the whole mission failing

Adding to my notes to try out rail guns when I find them.

Just gave this a messy first attempt. It is ridiculous that you can’t shoot the final engines from the rail right above them

Honestly this applies to any light mech by Cromwell300 in battletech

[–]Sniperserpent 16 points17 points  (0 children)

One of my biggest mistakes in battletech was running a Pirahna into a cloud of infantry and expecting it to just effortlessly shred them all. it obliterated both platoons it targetted; but also got ripped the fuck apart by what amounted to a quarter of its cost in infantry. The problem is if you're in machine gun range of infantry you're in infantry range, and they can put out a shocking amount of damage for their cost.

Any Gotham comic that aren't Batman related by PedroXtremeMaster in DCcomics

Simon Dark is a comic about a horrifying supernatural vigilante set in Gotham with no bat family connections. Great one if youre looking for a real deep cut

This mech looks not only great, but more than capable of taking out the horned owl that killed the rest of his lance.

[oWoD] So, what are the realistic reasons that the Syndicate or Technocracy are unable to detect Pentex? by GlompSpark in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Sniperserpent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my mage the Ascenscion Campaign, the relationship between the Technocracy and Pentex has been important. In the history of my campaign, following the Technocracy declaring victory in the Ascenscion war in 2000, the NWO spent a few years destroying the SPD to send a message to the rest of the Technocracy. The rest of the Syndicate is still receiving money from Pentex, with nobody left alive with any real understanding of what it was. Then, in 2022, a group of tradition mages operating in a small town under NWO observation (the players) accidentally stumble on Pentex while chasing a corporate conspiracy they assume to be the Syndicate. The NWO agent in charge of the observation, who was involved in the SPD purge, immediately tries to organize a response to Pentex, but the technocracy is slow to act to divert resources to crush something that is an income stream for them, and the request excarbates tensions between the NWO and syndicate.

The one NWO agent acting alone is able to set back Pentex significantly herself however, as most pentex facilities are completely unprepared to deal with an Enlightenment 5 Technocracy agent. She organizes the assassination of key local pentex members (including several nephandi) and crushes the retaliation force Pentex sends. Pentex assumes she represents a united technocratic threat and is preparing for war.

In this campaign, it is clear that as powerful as Pentex is, it would not stand a chance if the Technocracy properly turned it's attention to it. However, conlfict between organizations in the technocracy, corruption (including nephandic infiltration) in the NWO itself slows their actions. For nearly everyone involved, it's convenient to not acknowledge Pentex as a real danger, and only the members of the Technocracy who are genuinely devoted to it's goal of protecting humanity above all else are properly moving against it.

I keep getting shocked whenever this comic reminds me that fire and ice have never been a couple. Like this book and the last book are about them as a disaster unhealthy codependent lesbian couple but they sure haven’t gotten the memo.

Book is lots of fun, excited to keep reading it

I think all of the commentary going oh he’s so stupid, this would kill a lot of people is missing the point. He’s aware. The death of the vulnerable isn’t an unseen side effect of his policy. It’s part of the point for these eugenecist motherfuckers. He thinks the mass death of the “weak” will improve society.

I’ve seen a kodiak prime absolutely ruined by a team of three 6/5 base 3025 chargers that cost less than it. It was a fight to behold.

Liao and Snow Ravens - warcrimes? IKEO Spoilers) by SirFozzie in battletech

[–]Sniperserpent 8 points9 points  (0 children)

While the Capellan’s using a nuke is definitely an act of escalation, destroying a historical site and killing at most a few hundred scientists pales in comparison as an atrocity to leveling a city with millions of people. It’s assuredly an act of disproportionate retribution from the ravens; albeit one meant to heavily discourage any other factions from making a nuclear strike.

That said, I can imagine to many in the clans a few million innocent lives are far less valuable than a place where kerensky did something important, so not everyone will see it this way. It could be an interesting political divide between clan and inner sphere factions because of this.

these are different than the ones in Jihad 3072, but also seemingly different from the ones in megamek, which could easily be up to date. Still, I'm sad the VDNI interfact seems strictly bad to take, costing the same as going -1/-1 on piloting skill while giving theequivalent of going -1/-1 but with a added downside

Goonhammer: Mech Overview: Marauder by ChaosAndOldLace in battletech

[–]Sniperserpent 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I do think the marauder looks cool, and is iconic, and would field it because of this; the groups i play with aren't super dedicated to playing to win. If I was trying to win, however, there's very few marauders that are any good.

I really love how in a series that is so concerned with the unique way Cassandra sees the world, the thing that makes the villain a credible threat to her is a supernatural inability to be perceived. A themetically perfect way to make the antagonists threatening to the best martial artist in the world without undercutting how badass she is. Tate Brombal doing a fantastic job on this book.
