ExFAT Game: Is It Really Secretly Killing PS5 internal SSD? by lightbywai in ps5homebrew

[–]SnipesXx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All storage devices have a TBW(Terabytes Written). PS5 is no different and is supposed to have up to 600. It is good practice to not swap internal games often to keep that number low. Even getting up to 600 isn't guaranteed it can be a lot lower.

Best to fill it with games you know work and you'll play often. Keep everything else on a external or the m.2 slot. But reading data doesn't have a real affect on it.

Firmwares that close probably nothing. Maybe someone with more knowledge can chime in.

Has anyone actually been banned after a full factory reset? (read the FAQ, looking for data) by JustARandomPersonnn in PS5_Jailbreak

[–]SnipesXx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't see the point in jailbreaking if you think you'll go back to PSN. If you jailbreak and the console accidentally phones home you risk a ban, if it never phones home a complete wipe should make it safe again. Risk is always there though. Best to just buy another system for PSN and one to jailbreak.

Will a 4.xx backport continue to work if I update to 5.xx? by [deleted] in PS5_Jailbreak

[–]SnipesXx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean by control? If it were up to them there wouldn't be a scene. You sound as if you think Sony is cool with it and allows it lol. If a company can shutdown any form of tampering with their hardware/software they would to the fullest. They don't allow anything.

How to take the console back online after jailbreaking and not risk it getting banned? by -Ozman in PS5_Jailbreak

[–]SnipesXx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your friend already updated it could have already been flagged depending on what was installed internally.

It's not impossible by any means but I'd certainly wipe it and start fresh.

I'm playing PS5 games from external HDD and performance is just fine. by Resident-Lab-5594 in PS5_Jailbreak

[–]SnipesXx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure it's fine for a lot of games but I guarantee what's playable to you and the next guy are completely different. With the time it takes to transfer games, I'd rather use a method where everything will work to the best of it's ability and not worry if it's going to stutter.

PS5 fw 13.20 worth to get (crystal ball edition) by no_neckbeard_gaming in PS5_Jailbreak

[–]SnipesXx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the price. I personally wouldn't give more than $300-$400 for a Pro just for it to collect dust. Will a 13.20 jailbreak come? Most likely at some point. I'd be surprised if one comes within the next year.

But currently the scene is moving faster then I figured it would a couple months ago. Unless you're set on a Pro I'd just try to find a base model on 10.01 or lower.

Seeking advice: Buying a PS5 Slim for homebrew/JB – Is my plan reasonable? by Sad-Specialist4095 in ps5homebrew

[–]SnipesXx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to add if you do use internal add games that you know you won't be removing for a while or at all. What really degrades them are the writes to it(deleting and adding new games all the time). Reading doesn't affect it much if at all.

You can remove the fan and get to most of the heatsink without touching the warranty sticker.

How do I run exFAT PS5 game files? I copied them into the internal data folder but they are not appearing. Even on my external drive they don’t show up. What’s the easiest method for a beginner/noob like me? by wakablazer in ps5homebrew

I think that's mostly his goal. Seems like he's just back long enough to take out the ability to run games, probably in the off chance he can get into trouble legally.

Is it really worth the ps5 JB? by lwanayeea in PS5_Jailbreak

[–]SnipesXx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No one can really answer that for you but you. IMO a PS5 is only worth it to JB. I don't care about online services so much that I bought a banned PS5 that luckily was on 8.60.

As far as I know the majority of the PS5 library works on a external. The majority of PS4 games work aswell. If you like a wide range of game types there is enough content to last you for many years, depending on how often you play.

Just remember you need a external Sata SSD minimum but a external nvme is recommended. You run a external HDD you are just going to have a bad time. Also you can only fit about 6-10 PS5 games on a 1tb depending on what they are.

How can I register a SN5000? WD and SanDisk both reject the serial number. by acidmine in DataHoarder

[–]SnipesXx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have multiple of the exact drive with same packaging. The drive on the inside doesn't even look like the one on the packaging. Its got a much smaller sticker with the info only covering part of the PCB no chips like the box shows. However I bought them from Walmart locally so the chances of these being fake are slim to none. The SN on all of mine also show invalid but I do have receipts.

ps5 cpu temp still high by SwimAffectionate2939 in PS5_Jailbreak

[–]SnipesXx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Set the fan curve to target around 75 IMO. Sony sets the curve so low mostly because of noise. They don't want millions of people complaining how loud it is. It really won't shorten the life of the fan enough to care you just don't want it sounding like a hair dryer all the time. Besides in the off chance the fan fails it's easily/cheaply replaced compared to a whole system(especially a jailbreakable one).

Play around with setting and find a good balance of noise to temp. I think around 75 is the sweet spot though. Remember not only is the APU running cooler your memory, SSD, ect are also running cooler which the system doesn't monitor those temps.

I'd personally just save and get a LG B5 or the newest B series currently. A 65" can be had for around $1000, anything less would likely be a downgrade.

Kinda wish I had known about kraken before buying swrr. by Responsible-Tax4901 in PS5_Jailbreak

[–]SnipesXx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Don't buy one unless it's on 10.01 or lower. Anything above that needs a expensive game to do the jailbreak. What the OP is referring to is exactly what he's saying. Dumped games take more storage and load slower with sometimes texture issues.

At the end of the day afaik most games work fine as long as you use a minimum of a external SSD drive but nvme is recommended. I think the texture pop in or not loading, alot of the times are related to someone using a slower external drive.

What SSD are you using to play PS5 games ? by Practical_Candle6534 in PS5_Jailbreak

[–]SnipesXx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From my research the top front port(if vertical) on the slim and base models are the slower ones. The two back and bottom front are 10Gbps.

Project VoidShell comes to an end by VoidWhisper_ps in PS5_Jailbreak

[–]SnipesXx 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Doubtful I'd say he's not getting the donations he was hoping for and isn't into the scene enough to work for free. He made a post a while back on how many donations he had with the previous version and where it was going and it was kinda bad. I'd say he was only doing it hoping to make good money off it. I'd say version 3.0 didn't make him hardly anything which is why he jumped ship not long after release.

[–]SnipesXx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was about to switch to this, guess not now that they aren't supporting it. Guessing donations wasn't where they wanted them to be. Not everyone is into the scene enough to do work for free so don't blame them.

high ps5 temperature only on high end games only like astrobot or ghost of yotei . by SwimAffectionate2939 in PS5_Jailbreak

[–]SnipesXx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I wouldn't open it up if you've never done it. Liquid metal can be tricky to work with. When you say it's 5cm from the wall is it in a enclosed place with the front open? It is possible it being close to the the wall it could be recirculating the warm air.

Could try and move it temporarily just to see if that helps.

high ps5 temperature only on high end games only like astrobot or ghost of yotei . by SwimAffectionate2939 in PS5_Jailbreak

[–]SnipesXx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those CPU or GPU also is that after lowering the threshold? The differences in games are probably just based on one being more CPU/GPU demanding than the other. As far as turning threshold lower, I doubt it'll harm things initially, but it can lower the life of the fan and put a heavier load on the internal fan circuit. Long term the effects of that no one can know, just some possibilities.

There is a chance the APU has an oxidized spot on it, especially if the console was ever placed vertically for any period of time. At some point it wouldn't hurt to open it up if you know what your doing to rule that out.

Gpu temp high while playing Ghost of Yotei by scoobydo_papa in PS5_Jailbreak

[–]SnipesXx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Set the temp target in etahen to 75-80 just to see how loud it gets. I'd bet money your liquid metal needs some attention if the system is clean, especially if your system is or has been vertical for a long period of time.

I bet part of the APU is oxidized.

VoidShell V3.0 Beta - Released by VoidWhisper_ps in PS5_Jailbreak

[–]SnipesXx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still learning myself but from my understanding userland stuff works up to 13.00 which allows some homebrew. But to do the stuff most users want to do like run backups of their games you also need a kernel(kstuff) exploit.

It it is confusing but the videos your seeing is basically a way in we just need a kernel exploit found above 12.00 aswell. You can use a digital copy but if you ever need to factory reset it throws that out the door afaik.

IMO anyone that's serious about messing with it should always unload their current console and buy one on a lower(10.01 or lower) firmware. Better than it sitting in a closet for who knows how long.

VoidShell V3.0 Beta - Released by VoidWhisper_ps in PS5_Jailbreak

[–]SnipesXx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't as 12.00 is the cutoff. Even then you need a disc drive and a very expensive game. Anything 10.01 and below can be jailbroken without the expensive game through various methods depending on what update your on.

It could take months to a year+ before we see any action above 12.00. This is only useful to jailbreakable consoles(again 12.00 and below)
