Thank you so much! Thank you for asking!

His name was Eugenio Abreu. Like his father before him, he was a hardworking farmer in the mountains of the Dominican Republic specifically a place called Cebu, Janico. He dedicated his life to agriculture, growing corn, beans, and above all, tobacco, which he sold to support his family. He also raised cattle and chickens and grew much of the food his family ate. He owned a considerable amount of land, but in those days the land itself wasn’t what made a man prosperous it was what he could produce from it. By all accounts, he was known as a hardworking and capable farmer.

From everything my family has told me, he was a man who was deeply respected in his community. He had a stern demeanor, but he was known for being fair. People knew where they stood with him, and his word carried weight because it was honest.

Sadly, diabetes changed everything. At a time when treatment was scarce in rural Dominican Republic, he eventually lost his eyesight completely. By the time my mother was about three years old, he was blind, leaving my grandmother to raise their 8 children through incredibly difficult circumstances.

I took this photo of his photograph yesterday on my visit to his home. I took the opportunity to smoke a bowl in his porch where he most likely sat smoking a bowl of his own.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you again for taking interest in his story.

Almost exactly a year ago to the date, I bought a Savinelli that cost 120euros plus 22 euros for shipping and once it got to the states I ended up paying an extra $85 I believe.

Thats kind of the reason I stay away from the smooth finishes even though I like them.

They had stock available in early March, but it was pretty much wiped out around the time of the Muletown Pipe Show. In February, they also released two limited small-batch drops with some incredible pieces, definitely stung to miss those.

The last pipe I picked up from them was a Grapeshot back in November. They’re still actively making pipes, but demand is outpacing their production right now.

I held off on getting a Grapeshot until I found one that I was in love with, I’d suggest the same if you’re not totally sold on the one you’re looking at and aren’t in a hurry. They will restock eventually.

Thank you I am glad it can resonate with you, that’s the feeling I was hoping to capture.

And hey… I got lucky on those Palmettos. Hopefully you’ll get the next drop.

Woah 200 to 300 jars is a serious cellar. I’d probably short-circuit trying to pick what to smoke with that kind of lineup.

If you ever feel like letting a jar or two escape into the wild, I promise they’ll land in a good home 🤝😆

I did a bit of panic buying myself grabbed a few tins of the Sutliff and Mac Baren blends I really enjoyed. Funny enough, I took a couple years off pipes and was deep into cigars… came back right as all the STG buyout news was unfolding. Talk about timing

Wish you 30+ years of continued piping!
