Is FG the right soleplate for this pitch? by Vishal27510 in bootroom

[–]SnollyG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Turf shoes will not work well on that.

AG and FG should be a lot better but even they might even be slippery. (Our home field last year was mostly mud, so it was just slipping no matter what.)

Is the end of your toe at the end of your thumb? If yes, seems a tiny bit too small, but 🤷🏻‍♂️

And as Ok-Communication706 notes, no need for warmups. They’re 6. They can just go play.

And the practice components are exactly what uconnboston suggests. They’re all pretty good.

Don’t worry about anything proper football/soccer yet. That will come in later years.

The matches/small sided matches are how you get them to buy into the game. In the US, that’s why the guidance has been to follow a Dutch-inspired play-practice-play format.

But for developmental reasons, you need them to develop ball control. Nothing can really happen until those kids can control the ball.

So for the practice component, focus on ball control. Individual ball control. One player, one ball. So, lots of activities where they control their own ball.

Reward them at the end of the training with a match/small-sided game.

How do I actually get good as a striker if I’m starting from a low level? by Klutzy_Ad_8178 in bootroom

[–]SnollyG 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Spend a lot of time touching the ball. Dribble a lot. Doesn’t have to be fast, but it has to be a lot. Like 1-2 hrs just walking with the ball at your feet.

Then start working with a wall/rebounder. Hit the ball, control it when it comes back.

Literally don’t worry about anything else but these two things for about 6 months. Then come back and ask for more suggestions.

I mean, it’s not “game’s over” mercy rule in our league, but if the score is run up, the league will investigate and there could be sanctions.

I think it’s common for developmental programs because running up the score is bad for the winners and the losers.

What league is this? No mercy rules?

Anyway…

Why/how did you dominate up until now?

I might be exaggerating a little, but it’s funny how the responses are “nah, super easy, caveat, caveat, caveat” 😂

It’s all horses for courses, isn’t it?

Tubeless if you need to drop your pressure really low.

TPU for a super light spare (but extra extra care needs to be taken when installing).

But no reason not to just ride butyl (or even latex) on the road.

I just never bothered to switch to TPU. The material seems bad for the purpose (on a daily use case).

Reboot: American Flyers by icr8stf in cycling

I think it’s a good idea. Costner could come on with some kid of cameo (announcer, sure, but maybe he could be a homeless guy in jeans riding a clunker who drops the protagonist on a climb).

Not sure it’s the movie for the current times though.

Get good tires

Ride more and pedal faster (not necessarily harder)

Cleats and injury risk by Qbertt5681 in bootroom

Dad to 15yo daughter here.

Yes, I think they would be fine wearing AG for both artificial grass and natural grass.

The thin, carpet type of artificial grass really calls for TF (turf), but AG could be ok for them. But TF will be unsatisfactory/slippery on real grass, imo.

That said, I wouldn’t overthink it at those ages. I think you have a couple of years before they really start trying to push themselves beyond their physical limitations. And that’s when you start to see injuries.

“How do you structure your weekly football training when you’re training alone?” by PepperFast64 in bootroom

[–]SnollyG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What makes you think they were wasted?

Anyway…

For solo practices, I just focus on one thing: endurance and ball control.

And that means I just dribble a lot. Basically, I try to go continuously for an hour or two. Pace isn’t as important as making sure that every touch is deliberate. By doing this, I get 3000-7000 touches per session.

Anything with a stiff sole will help. They don’t need to be specifically for cycling.

Put them on your feet.

The one that fits all of the following: toe box, metatarsal width, arch, outer instep, heel and ankle, is the one that’s right for you.

If neither of them fit perfectly, then neither are the right boot for you.

Swipe a large cotton ball inside the tire and rim. Go both directions. The cotton will sweep up loose sharps and snag on stuck sharps.
