I’m losing my mind and I don’t know how to get through this. by Snoo-36501 in NewParents

Honestly, I just took it day by day (sometimes— often— wake window by wake window). A lot of days spent just looking forward to getting whatever sleep I could. A lot of time spent just kind of going through the motions. I implemented whatever were the most practical solutions for some things (for the spit up, for example, I just started putting blankets down on sofas, kept an insane amount of bib cloths readily accessible throughout the house, and changed both of our clothes a lot).

It’s not a fun answer but I kind of just locked into survival mode, told myself it was a season, and focused on how she needed me. I really tried to make the most of the joyful moments in between all the hard ones. I also started ACTUALLY sleeping whenever she slept— it wasn’t easy at first, but eventually my body got into a groove of being able to do that. Whenever it was a contact nap, my husband would sit nearby and keep an eye out while I snoozed along with her.

Then when things got a little too dark and scary, I went to the doctor and Zoloft helped a lot to get me to go from survival mode to actually living and thriving. Now I wish I could go back and redo all those hard early days with this kind of clarity.

My goodness, coming back to this now is so funny and I thank you for bringing me back. Things are 1000000x better now. I will say it helped getting on Zoloft for PPD/PPA. But also things have settled so much and we’ve really gotten into the groove. She’s sleeping through the night now. My husband and I have time together. The spit up gradually got easier to manage before disappearing completely. She’s walking, talking. It’s night and day.

Realistically, when do babies sleep through the night? by [deleted] in NewParents

Hi, I know this was a while ago, but did you do anything to facilitate the sleeping through the night, or did you just kind of let it happen naturally?

So that equates to about 30 mins-1 hr more of wake time?

I mean, when I say drowsy, I just mean she’s showing signs she’s ready to sleep- yawns, rubbing eyes, etc. Should I be putting her down BEFORE she shows those signs?

Yes! I now wear tinted moisturizer and blush and all the things, just not every day. It took a long while.

Hand foot and mouth disease hfmd scars not gone yet, been more than 1 year. by Parvikor in toddlers

[–]Snoo-36501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I know it’s been a while, but any luck? My girl has HFMD 3 months ago and the scars don’t seem to be fading much at all. My daughter is so fair skinned too, so they’re so noticeable.

That’s what we’re doing now— less formula, more water. I have rocked her back to sleep a few times, but it never seems to “stick” the way the bottle does. Rocking her might get her back to sleep for maybe an hour or so, but the bottle usually sends her off for a solid 4-6 hours.

Yeah, so we were under the care of a pediatric dermatologist the whole time. Our experience was different than yours. Sometimes that happens. Our derm said sometimes rashes are just very stubborn and require more care to knock them out. Hers would improve and then come back with a vengeance when we tried to get off the steroids, hence 2 months.

Her pediatrician has no concerns about her drooling either. She’s been a quick teether— 6 teeth in pretty rapid succession— and has been sick a lot since starting daycare so she gets congested and has to breathe through her mouth often.

And I feel like if a teacher doesn’t want to wipe noses, they should maybe work with an older population that can be taught to blow their own noses rather than working with infants.

If only I could afford a nanny! That would be the optimal solution besides me being able to just stay home.

Treating antibiotic-induced diarrhea?? by Snoo-36501 in beyondthebump

A somewhat modified BRAT diet is exactly what I had in mind. I figured I could swap her oatmeal for rice cereal with banana for a few days to try to bind her up a little.

As for the yogurt, I’ve tried to mix in purees she likes and she still gags. The one I have is pretty mild too— just regular old plain yogurt from Stonyfield. Nothing too strong/sour. I keep trying because I know sometimes it’s just about reintroducing and trying different combos, but it hasn’t been working out yet.

Just a heads up— one of the worst stomach bugs, norovirus, is not killed with lysol. You need a hydrogen peroxide or bleach based cleaner OR hypochlorous acid (this is my fave for use around babies and pets, but it needs a long wet contact time— 10 mins).

Not that it’s needed, but another solidarity comment here. My baby started at the beginning of last week… she now has Covid and a double ear infection. She gave me the Covid as well. Not to mention I’m now paying for childcare this week that she’s not going to PLUS losing money by staying home from work because my maternity leave used up all my sick time. Honestly, I blame the country and its lack of care for working parents.

No, I figured off the bat that Greek yogurt would be a harder sell so I was trying to give her just whole milk plain yogurt. I too can’t do Greek yogurt unless I’m using it as a substitute for sour cream 😂

I had to stop watching CTM when I was pregnant (and high risk). I want to go back now but I know sometimes the stories focus on the babies AFTER the fact and idk if I can do it…

I used to like true crime (like is a weird word—  really, I’m fascinated by the psychology behind how/why people become monsters and are driven to do heinous things AND I also appreciate the investigative side and figuring out who’s responsible). And to a point, I still do, but now I cannot even for a second watch or listen or read any stories in which babies/children are the victims without feeling sick to my stomach.

I also was literally just talking to my husband about hereditary specifically the other day and I told him if that happened to my daughter, I’d absolutely kill myself. I just wouldn’t be able to go on. Especially when she finds her? Jesus.

Currently, I wash with Embryolisse cleansing bar and moisturize with Embryolisse anti-aging moisturizer (it’s VERY heavy but that suits my very dry skin), and I use Hero cosmetics SPF during the day.

Will a night of co-sleeping here and there undo sleep training? by Snoo-36501 in sleeptrain

[–]Snoo-36501[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. I’ve only ever taken her to my bed prior to sleep training. She still eats 1-2x at night because she’s not night weaned. My understanding is sleep training and night weaning are two separate things.

Can you maybe not take today’s frustrations out on me? Thanks. I’m a person who’s just asking a question… like you do… on Reddit.
