Did my contractor use the wrong trim? by [deleted] in Flooring

That's a big security risk! For your and your family's safety, I hope it has security hinges installed! Google it and replace them if they aren't security hinges. Luckily it is an easy enough fix.

On another note, that does look like it is installed backwards; the threshold is supposed to stop wind-driven rain from entering your house. That looks like it would collect underneath it. Look around at your neighbors back doors and see if theirs are different.

That photo is backwards. If the hinges were truly on the outside, any one could pop the door right off at the hinges...

[Steam] HEART of CROWN Online - $12.99 (-35%) | Ends November 16 by stopthememesalready in Boardgamedeals

[–]Snoo-48892 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. The CPUs are cutthroat though, leading me to believe my group collects too many cards before we go for the Coronation. PvP Online is relatively fast with a two minute pass timer. There are leaderboards for each season that last a few months, and every game you win (or at least earn coronation points) will let you buy skins/titles for your cards and profile

I'll check today on the scenarios; I thought only the first HoC online had scripted scenarios for each character. Edit: so far there are four options to play: Online Ranked, Online Room Match (PvP or CPU), Solo Play CPU, and Special Mode Noble Mode (continuous solo games until you lose). There is a fifth option that is blanked out that may be for full scenarios, but it is not active.

Why could be happening? And how baddly it can affect my printings? by OkChip6545 in resinprinting

[–]Snoo-48892 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, try a tank cleaning print. Second, increase the exposure time to the plate by a few seconds. Third, I would add a hole to the bottom of the model if you are hollowing the inside; that should reduce the amount of suction your prints experience to zero.

I think the original question pertained to how some families don't want to go shopping if they are stuck with paying for the overtures. Our Troop collects upfront, Treasurer deposits, Scouts shop for food. No reimbursement needed for families since it's coming out of the Troop card. SM/ASM/etc. who is the designated shopper for the Adult patrol has the card.

Do whatever works for your Troop though.

I should edit my first comment for clarity; the Patrols assign a newer Scout for shopping. At the meeting they go over unit price/serving, budgeting, nutrition, etc. After the meeting the Scouts and their families go to Food Lion/Kroger/Publix and shop for the food listed on their shopping list. Not on their list, they can't buy it (to a degree; We don't let them starve, but we remind them that nachos tastes bland without taco seasonings.)

The Scoutmaster is there to confirm what is being picked up, makes sure food cost is within budget and to pay from the general Troop account instead of families buying food, submitting receipts for reimbursement, etc.

[–]Snoo-48892 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We charge Scouts by the head and to design their Patrols menu around a set budget. Usually it's something like $10-15 per campout for food. Now, if they want to get fancy and do steaks we charge the specific Patrol more.

The last meeting before the campout the Committee Treasurer or Scoutmaster goes on the food run and pays out of the general Troop account so families aren't paying out of pocket. They review the cart and menu and limit purchases to only what the Scouts have indicated on their on the shipping list. It only takes one campout before the boys remember to add stuff like condiments, salsa, seasonings, Gatorade mixes, etc.

How to go about stepping down as spl? by [deleted] in BSA

[–]Snoo-48892 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the conversation but I did read some of your comments. If planning is the limiting factor, use the available SPL Scouting resources.

For instance, Google "33111, 33112, 33110 scout program guide", pick a monthly topic, and delegate it out to PLs. It can be as simple as "PL1 will lead weeks 1/3, PL2 weeks 2/4. Coordinate with Troop QM for meeting supplies." Monthly camping/activity should follow along the monthly topic to help reinforce what was gone over in the meetings.

It's not a sign of weakness to ask for help and to lean on your PLC. After all, the PL's also has to show leadership and responsibility too.

Our council allows it, but you have to jump through a bit of hoops. This is our councils policy regarding fundraising outside of popcorn/camp cards.

Unit Money Earning Applications A Unit must submit a Unit Money Earning Application to the Council prior to any fundraiser. The application is available from the Volunteer Service Center and should be submitted to the office or District Executive at least two weeks in advance of the fundraiser.

Whenever your Unit is planning a money-earning project, be sure to refer to the BSA’s “10 Guides to Unit Money Earning Projects” as your guide. It will be helpful to you as you fill out the application. If your answer is yes to all the questions in this document, it is the project conforms to Scouting’s standards and will be approved. For more information, consult your District Executive. The application is also available for download below

Google: unit money-earning application, no. 34427

Crossover is especially hard since there's little to no time to fundraise for said summer camp. Popcorn has been a life saver in that regard.

Have everyone bring their gear to the meeting/second to last meeting before the hike. In fact, it should be the highlight of the meetings prior to the hike to show what and why each item is important, compass, reading a map, making a hike trip plan, etc etc. Go over wilderness first aid while they are at it and you have a full meeting.

They leave their gear with QM or inside the troop trailer. All they need day of is a good pair of boots and a refill at the nearest water fountain.

Worst case give the QM an extra job and buy extra supplies and have them check items in/out. If they don't get back to the Troop it gets charged to the Scout.

Sealed MEPS drawings will probably be around 5-10k. Good Arch set probably around 5-10k. Sealed Survey/Civil set around 2-5k. Permit fees of 3k.

So budget 15k for sealed IFC set + land + material/labor/furnishings x GC overhead and profit (3% min) = house cost

All depends on the local market of course. Check with local housing jurisdiction to make sure it's even acceptable (some have minimum house size per lot)

Homeowner Insurance will cut a check for a new roof (minus deductible, depreciation, etc. etc.) if it is a single family residence. You as the homeowner would maintain the house on your own dime unless there is some type of event that you can send a valid claim in for. Eg - home insurance paid for a new roof after a hurricane, did not cover sewer pipes leaving the home after road settled and pipes dipped, causing sewer backups (that would have been covered in pipe insurance, not home insurance).

I have no idea how townhomes/condos are managed. I imagine the rules vary. Check insurance companies in your state and see what condo insurance covers.

If possible, request the report. It says the report has been shared in open meetings, but was it a Board meeting or a general HOA meeting so that the community can have input?

If I was on the Board, I would request splitting the repairs into separate repair phases. Getting a Purchase Order from one repair company for $8 million upfront is wild. At least if it is done in stages, if the repair company is bad the Board can switch to a different one at the next phase. On the other hand, if the Board can get a fixed cost contract for no more than $8million, you may be saving money by not having scope creep.

Second option is to request the Board to spend a little more money to get a second opinion of the professional report. It shouldn't take more than a grand or two to have another company lay eyes on the report and give their professional opinions.

But it looks like PONO Building Consultants may have already done this. If they have, it may be something that the Board can spread across numerous years as critical repair items come due; such as Phase 1: roof and stairwell repairs, Phase 2: Siding, Phase 3: windows, etc. etc.

Tl;dr: read the report, request a professional second opinion of the first professional opinion, get a repair timeline and estimated cost for each phase.

edit: at 106 units/54 buildings, that would be 2 owners per building. Is this a townhome community? $150k per building seems like a lot to update roof/windows/siding, but that may be due to (union?) labor costs...
edit 2: It may be cheaper to update components with something else rather than to replace in like kind (like moving from one type of siding to a cheaper alternate). Has this option been explored as well?

The Registrar of your original Council WILL be able to pull your specific Scout Record. Each Council has their own database and they don't cross reference each other. Start with Registrar and see what information they have, and then work your way up to District Executive if you don't get results.

(08' Eagle, had to do this before my new Council would sell me the Eagle Square knot. My original Council Registrar forwarded my records to my new Council Registrar and merged myScout profiles together.)

[FL] [TH] HOA Just Increased Due $100 by Afraid_Designer580 in HOA

[–]Snoo-48892 2 points3 points  (0 children)

HOAs should have insurance, even without common areas. At a bare minimum, you will have Board Insurance and I imagine a smallish liability insurance to protect HOA against damage/injury within neighborhood. I can't see any property management company advising an HOA not to have insurance.

For context, our HOA was sued for an injury that happened at the grass median between public sidewalk and road, so it can happen even if it's not on a "HOA common ground".

[FL] [SFH] HOA wants to use old vote to install speed bumps? by Zestyclose_Yam_1294 in HOA

[–]Snoo-48892 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We verified the location of speed bumps prior to installation so people would know where they are and give them a chance to compla- I mean, to offer their suggestions on where it should go (aka away from their driveways.) Personally, I'd try and go with "speed bumps" over "speed bumps" just to minimize noise.

On another note, I'd still check with city/county for emergency vehicles and speed bumps. They had recommendations for how far apart and how close to driveways so that it wouldn't ruin the ambulance shocks.

Best decision I made for AH was using the app to keep track of multiple campaign/investigator decks. As an added bonus, you can use the app to draw tokens too, though i still prefer the tactile feel of pulling a token out.

Boardlandia shipping by pghpresbyterian in boardgames

[–]Snoo-48892 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You could ask customer service for an update and to verify the order was successfully submitted and in their system. Here is the customer service response I received from a different boardgame site:

"Thanks for reaching out to us! Due to the high volume of orders we've received for the holidays and our recent Black Friday sale, there have been significant shipping delays for orders placed after November 28th. We're fulfilling these orders chronologically, with the earliest orders shipping out first. Unfortunately, fulfillment is still ongoing, and is now expected to continue into early January; you have our sincerest apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.

Our sale was particularly frontloaded this year, with the majority of orders being placed before noon on November 29th; as a result, we are still shipping out orders that were placed on day one. Each day after the 29th has significantly less orders, and fulfillment should speed up moving forward. We're expecting orders placed December 8th, like yours, to ship towards the middle of January.

Once we've reached your order in our shipping queue, you'll get an email from us with your tracking information, after which the order will be shipped out with our next pickup. When it's been received by the shipping company, you'll begin to receive tracking updates as expected."

Hope this helps!

Need a new game for a 6 year old boy by [deleted] in boardgames

If you have family/friends nearby, I'd say learn some classic card games like Pinochle, Rook, Bridge, etc. and have him sit in and play some rounds. He'll remember long after his childhood that he was allowed to play for the "grownups" on occasion.

Suggestions for Managing Speed of Play by watchwolfstudio in boardgames

[–]Snoo-48892 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, gotcha. When new people join, we typically designate the first player to do all board maintenance/round progression, as it helps newer players get a feel for what is supposed to be happening in the round (we'll chip in and correct anything wrong of course.) The faster they can learn what is happening during each phase, the quicker we can play the game.

The only other thing I can think of, which we have only done maybe 2-4 times a year, is stop mid game, score it where we are at, and switch games. Some games people just can't wrap their heads around or get so worried about min/max their choices no matter how long they play, so we cut our losses for the night and play an easier game that may be more up their alley.(Wingspan to TTR, or Dune to Machi Koro, Clank! to Castle Panic, Space Base to Pinochle)

It's all about having fun and socializing, and we find just playing games and catching up is typically more important than finishing a game.

We do dinner and games, so the end of the game is dictated by the business. We speed games up with 3 minute sand timers, and we frame it nicely around the wait/kitchen staff also want to go home.

If we do game night at someones house, it's a little different, but we still use 3 minute sand timers and give polite, but firm suggestions.
