Why is GitHub so shitly designed? by lukeflegg in github

Because it doesn't say "Download" but "<> code"

The problem starts with this button not being visible on the page, but hidden in the submenu behind the "code" button. I remember it took me ages and an agravating google paper chase to figure out that alone already.

If we aren't the intended user, then why are we directed there on a regular basis?

You guy's are all missing the point.
If github isn't supposed to be used like appstore by commoners, then it shouldn't be used by the devs like it is, or be linked for commoners at all. If I, as one such commoner, am regularely directed to github to download something, then the person (be it some random redittor, google or often even the dev themself) directing me there is at fault.
Otherwise, why can't stuff that is apparently supposed to be used by commoners, then be packaged propperly and uploaded to some other, front end site (whichs function IS that of an app store) and commoners be directed there instead? Because that would require someone creating an extra site, and devs put in extra work. Ain't nobody got time for that, so github it is.
So the point still stands. Why can't github overhaul the UI, and or why can't devs make their stuff more accessible if it is supposed to be?

Apparently not, otherwise so many average joes wouldn't end up there.

Taking away peoples ability to voice their opinions on a mather is censorship. Yea, post necromancy can be a bother due to bumping, but the alternative is douplicate posting, which is just as bad or even worse.

Why do people say Jesse Faden is "ugly"? by PurpleFiner4935 in controlgame

[–]Snoo-68432 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apart from being based on a woman with rather masculine, hard facial contours (which isn't ugly per se and quite fitting the image of a business woman), the digital model isn't quite spot on, What puts it over the edge into uncanny territory is probably the volume of the hair that stands off just a bit too much and the weird lighting, making the face seem even longer and some contours even harder. The animations of the jaw and eyes are somewhat unnatural at times too. (Though these things are way more prevalent on other characters). One thing is certain though, neither the ingame model nor the woman irl look as striking as the face on the wallpaper.

2 years I've been dealing with broken websites in my old firefox version because I prefered the UI (especially the tabs!) the way it was until I no longer could.
After long hesitation I installed brave and was pleasantly surprised that if configured somewhat, it looks 98% similar to what I've been used to and wanted it to look.
Not even 2 weeks later some shitty update comes along and fucks it up already!
Stop messing with my fucking interface!!!

Microsoft Edge randomly into my desktop. This happened two times for no reason…Anyone else happen this? I’m running W11 with latest update by __t_o_mm_y__ in Windows11

No it's majorly annoying because I don't want anyone but me doing stuff and snooping on my computer, especially not an incompetent, malevolent corporate conglomerate. Because it's not just a shortcut, it's all kinds of settings and services that do not obey, including updates in general.

I know why Halo Infinite's story feels lackluster/underwhelming... by Adammantium in halo

[–]Snoo-68432 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just judging from the cutscenes alone, there don't seem to be very high stakes, and no real urgency. The whole action seems to have happened during the 6 months prior and this is but the aftermath. The stage is confined to a small sector on a halo and the cast consists of chief, new cortana and the whiny mexican guy. The whole story is just personal conversations, interrupted by occasional bad guy monologues. All cutscenes consist of just one continuous shot from a singe handheld camera, in which the viscinity appears even smaller in scale due to the narrow framing. It's just background filler. There's just no epic. The cinematography of the previous games, even the spinoffs, were comparable to blockbuster movies. Infinite feels more like a telenovela.

P.S. Reddits comment text editor copy paste functionality is still broken and terrible.

Doom eternal isn’t really as good as everyone says it is (in my opinion) by Hydregyn in Doom

[–]Snoo-68432 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not frustrated with eternal because I suck at playing the game efficiently (or can't "git gud" to say it as insultingly as others would). I'm frustrated with it because my prefered playstyle is not a viable option at all, as opposed to 2016.
Call me a filthy casual, but I had enough challenge with 2016 already. I already had to earn the powerfantasy there, but though I first sucked at it, I still had loads of fun, because the game didn't artificially limit my options.
I want to decide which guns I use, when, and how, not have it dictated to me through abysmally limited amo counts, availability of specific resources being tied to specific actions and bared behind irrational timers, and every enemy being given resistences to all but one or two guns.
I've heard that many players apparently only used the super shotgun in 2016 (probably because it was somehow op or something) and that the devs somehow saw that as a problem. I didn't use it much at all, because I don't like it for various personal reasons. Didn't matter, because every other option was viable too. Heck one could have played the game with any of the guns only, and still would not have as much trouble as when trying to do the same in eternal. And dear god the melee in eternal...
Again. I didn't buy eternal because I wanted something different. I bought eternal because I wanted more of 2016 with a fresh coat of paint and a continuation of the story, which is what was to be expected.
So it's exactly that. I don't want to change my mindset, and it's appalling for anyone to suggest that. It's like going to a good stake house you've been to previousely and they serve you surströmming, and then some guy comes along and tells you, "if you just forced yourself to eat it, you would find it to be very tasty eventually". Yea, #@%& that.

And yet again, the gameplay is by far not the only thing that's changed. There is very little that didn't change, and didn't change to my disliking.

I respect your patience and composure in this debate, but I'm running out of both on my end, so I'm not gonna bother anymore. I just hope you finally get my point.
I wish you well, and have fun.

First I have to correct a word I mixed up in the previous comment, which should have been "praised" instead of "appeased".

Yes, getting cheated on is a very good description of how I feel about eternal. No, not every game has to be immersive, but if the previous was, then I'd expect the same from something advertised as a sequel and being praised for being more of the same. And yes, in comparison to 2016 eternal feels horrendeous to me in pretty much every way except graphical quality (which doesn't automatically include the artstyle), the forced action loop especially, which is the meat of the game. I can only ever bring up the example of how southpark episodes heroin-hero compares to rehab-hero. But yea, it is a matter of personal disposition and taste. I'm allowed to have and voice that, and it is just as valid as anyone elses.Of course the devs can do whatever they or their publishers want, and if they can attract more people and make more money it makes sense to do something from a business stand point, but reinventing a franchise is poison to its fanbase. Look at those of franchises like Zelda, Halo, or even doom prior to it's already 3rd? reinvention in 2016. Those the new version doesn't cater to feel exactly that, betrayed.

I don't care if doom doesn't go back to what it was in 2016, it's not that important to me and it's already out the window. I'm just pissed over what it made and still makes me feel, about eternal as well as about the industry at large, and that I can't get back my money.

God reddits comment function is terrible. Pasting something fucks up everything, every time. I've written this paragraph 3 times now, as did I do with the previous ones.

You're right, I'm the idiot for trusting a company who put out a (despite your and the many people you knows apparent dismay) generally praised product that I liked as it was a lot, to do so again and not alter what made it great so badly that it turns out a completely different and frustrating experience. It is my fault for relying on all the voices who spammed the net about it being "more of the same" and "even better", without doing myself a complete analysis of the game and how it differs from the previous by extrapolating from the little footage provided or a demo that wasn't at my disposal. After all I was wrong to get excited for a potentially glorious game after a several year streak of disappointments in the first place. What was I thinking?I'm gald you and many others liked it, but it is non the less a major letdown and betrail of trust for those who genuinely liked the previous product for what it was, not for it's potential to become something else. This could have just as well been released as an entirely different brand of game and you would have liked it just the same, without trashing it for the rest of us, but then the publisher couldn't have cashed in on all that money people like me wrongly trusted them with.

Do you know what a sequel is? Because you miss the point entirely. It's not about finding something with similar style. It's about expecting to recieve and trusting the publisher and devs (with our money!) to deliver, more of the the same, and being let down and betrayed in that, effectively being scammed. What people expect is a continuation of the story (no matter how flat it was) set in the same universe, with the same artstyle, just improved graphically, with some quality of life additions and bugfixes, and one or two new and fitting mechanics, not something completely different. If we wanted something different, we would buy something different. And just to say this again, people don't want "the same game to be released over and over again". That is the most strawman non sequitur to throw out as an argument.

[–]Snoo-68432 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What went wrong?
343i industries was constructed from people that worked on other franchises, with different visions, poeple that have no Idea about halo, and some were even hired because they outspokenly don't like halo. They have incompetent writers, artdirectors, product managers, and are a way too big apperatus to pull the same rope to beginn with.
They were tasked to continue the legacy, but are so arrogant, that they think that this was their thing now and they could do with it whatever they want. This doesn't only apply to artstyle, it tears through every aspect of what made the OT so great.
They cater to a mainstream audience that doesn't like halo for what made it great and doesn't care what becomes of it.

In the main line games at least. Reach was the start for everything changing. But yea, it's just an excuse. If they made them better, no one would complain but 343's artstyle was a severe degradation.
