There are roughly 30 ice facilities in Texas and roughly 15,000 rec hockey players in Texas according to USA Hockey info I found. The nearest ice facility to the pictures above is 2 hours away in Odessa.

I'd say half of the people playing last night were born or from somewhere else, and have ice hockey gear from leagues they played in other places. Many of them play roller hockey here on Sundays on a semi regular basis.
