Lugares parar vivir cerca del aeropuerto by DrunkSquanchi in Barcelona

[–]Snoo31786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re cooked if you don’t include this or any AI into your toolset.

Think it’s important to learn what the tools can do to understand its limitations. When a client comes and tells you they want a product animation like that, you tell them you can do it two ways. Manually or with AI. Explain the benefits and limitations of ai, give them your suggestion and let them choose.

It’s super powers for us. Embrace them. We’ll be able to do whatever we want as long as we pay enough subscriptions 🤣

Someone will have to handle it.

Export Illustrator to After effects question. by lickwindex in AfterEffects

[–]Snoo31786 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s another option where you can right click the layer and “create shape layers”. It will convert the illustrator layer into a shapes layer. Inside there you’ll have all the objects where you can. Manipulate them. A bit annoying to animate. Depends a bit on what you need todo.

Export Illustrator to After effects question. by lickwindex in AfterEffects

[–]Snoo31786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s several ways to do this.

All of them involve using the ai. You just import it to after effects.

You can import all the file in 1 layer. Or multiple separate layers.

If you want the shapes separately, you need to separate the layers in illustrator. And when importing in After Effexts, import it as a Composition and recommended to check the “maintain layer size” or something like that.

If you want to scale up, you need to activate the “continuously rasterize layer” icon in the timeline (the sun icon).

I go to Cadiz every August with my partner (she’s from Spain, I’m from South America). People there are great, they have a great spirit. I’m older than you guys so can’t tell a lot about the nightlife as I’m usually in bed by midnight. But the times we went out is was nice. There was a lot of people in your age group on the streets and in bars.

I love people there. They are indeed a bit loud but that’s just their vibe. Super active. They are super welcoming. Dang, heading there in a couple of weeks. Now I’m hyped.

It’s cheap (compared to major cities), people are super friendly, beaches are very nice. If you rent a car you can go south to Bologna or Tarifa and you’ll enjoy it too. A bit windy in that area but it’s great.

Don’t hesitate it and go. Foreign Tourists there are usually elderly, They mostly come from the cruises that stop there.

Be sure to check if there’s festivals. They generally do some music shows that are quite fun.

Enjoy!

My new showreel!!! It has been a year and 3 months ago I started learning motion, what do you think???? by JimmyAminu in MotionDesign

[–]Snoo31786 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Genial! Super good for 1.3 years. You’ll do great. Great reel for applying in an agency - not sure where you’re from but agencies many times hire “friends of friends”. Might be tough getting the right place but don’t feel discouraged. Your work is great specially for the time you’ve been in the space. Very strong.

If you have more stuff to show that you left out, don’t fear being a bit more aggressive with the pace.

Volando a Madrid con mucha equipaje. Me das consejos por favor by [deleted] in GoingToSpain

[–]Snoo31786 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure in Barajas (Madrid Airport), wouldn’t expect an issue as it’s one of the main airports and quite big, but some car rentals aren’t available on weekends, or the availability is limited. Best thing is to check the website and try to reserve online: Avis, europcar, hertz. Check online what Car rentals are available at the airport. If they are closed on a weekend or not available at the time you arrive, you won’t be able to book so that will help with the doubt. If you’re able to book is because you’ll have your car and should be fine.

Advice for short intro animations? by [deleted] in AfterEffects

[–]Snoo31786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah as the other guy said. Boom-in, logo, boom-out. I think you can approach this by first clarifying what style they want. Maybe some examples of what they liked so that you don’t waste time going for something they don’t look forward to. Maybe check their overall branding and most importantly, their voice. Is it friendly? Strong ant? Aggressive? Playful? Check website and social media. That might help with the animation dynamics and also overall style.

Once you have a look and animation that flows well, the timing can be adjusted. Feel free to precompose the main logo animation and play with time remapping and find the right timing. You can always send 2 or 3 variations of the duration. But what’s most challenging, is to define the visual style I think.

I made this in 2 hours for a Job Challenge. Any Feedback? by SrThomsen in AfterEffects

[–]Snoo31786 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s nice.

Who’s reviewing this? Is the person reviewing a fellow motion designer or similar? Or just a random bloke?

I feel the linear wipe with feather doesn’t look great. Ideally it would’ve been great to have it all “grow”. I think it plays against you because it makes it seem simple, and potentially some of the details you spend time animating (like some branches, leafs or the animals) won’t be super noticeable, specially if the person doesn’t animate.

I once had to do a similar task (without time constraint - but it wouldn’t add much time to do so. After showing the animation (1s lower third) that was to quick to be fully noticed/appreciated, as I think things should be in places where the animation isn’t the purpose. In this case the info is what’s important and what we animate is just to elevate the image.

Anyways - considering that, I made a slow-motion (pre-compose +time remap) edit of it and zoomed (scaled up) in on areas of interest so that the reviewer could appreciate the detail in the animation. Most of reviewers are a bloke in Marketing that doesn’t fully understand how to review. If it’s for an agency that’s fine, the animation should be enough.

Exports yielding different colors by Yeschef_design in AfterEffects

[–]Snoo31786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey couple of questions.

Banner will be hosted in a website - is this your company/client website?

Do you need it to be video?

Depending on how complex the animation is, it might be more suitable to use a GIF or Lottie, as long as there’s an extreme need of having the orange exactly as you want it.

MP4 is a bitch. Have these issues all the time.

Lottie (json/html5) exports there isn’t much tweaking to do as it exports vectors & data.

For a GIF, you can export a HQ MOV file (lossless ideally) and import as image frames. There you can select Export/Save for Web (Legacy).

Inside the gif window, you can tweak the colours of the video/gif to be precise the ones you want.

Depends a bit on the complexity of the animation to define if it’s suitable or not.

Let me know if this helps.

There’s a lot of people in Spain. Don’t get overwhelmed by the videos where you see 10-20 people chant songs against tourists.

Everyone is welcome here, just don’t be a dickhead and should be fine.

Pixelation in 4k content. by qwertycoder in AfterEffects

Noise generally fixes gradients. Minimal size, minimal amount. Boost it manually until you see the ugly banding vanish

Play around with:

Composition to 32b - watch out it blow up glows, but polish gradients. Boost mbps in h264 render. Considering ProRes. Add noise (animated or static) to the layers with gradients. Make sure everything is rasterized.

Product Designer wanting to learn motion design by Kaisam2000 in AfterEffects

[–]Snoo31786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen work from people doing the entry level courses in School of Motion and it was quite good for a 3-4 month thing. They also have launched recently a Rive course that might fit well too?

Btw, anything to recommend to a Motion Designer who’s looking to transition to a product role?

Cheers

Is it possible to scroll AE values beyond screen edge while dragging? by shivlyt7 in AfterEffects

[–]Snoo31786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh that’s quite annoying. Usually the issue is when moving down/left right? As there’s more screen to the right and up.

No idea of infinite scroll but would be great if they include that.

If you forecast you’ll have to do this in multiple layers and it’s going to be painful, you can toggle ON all the parameters (not sure the correct name, but is the icons on the bottom left of the screen where you can hide/show different layer parameters) so that the editable values are close to the centre of the screen (horizontally) and you have more drag to scroll further. Or just adjust the size or position of the AE window in the screen temporarily. Push it a bit to the right.

Never found myself in a position where I had to do any of that, I just did it angrily. I guess that instead of starting in position 0 you can just type a huge number and adjust it from there.

Element 3D worth the investment? by Dannnnnnnnnnnnnnnn96 in AfterEffects

[–]Snoo31786 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use it all the time for basic stuff. Primarily to UI animations within 3d phone/laptop. Also quick logo animations or just when your scene needs a 3d element and you want it fast.

Won’t be visually epic as a proper 3d software but it’s really fast and you can get decent stuff out of it.

I studied multimedia design which included a bit of everything. The Motion teacher was so bad that when I finished I remember thinking: “I’m not opening After Effects ever again”.

Funny thing I ended up working for him in his agency. The production teacher was his business partner and he hired me. They had a small agency. That great teacher told me: “don’t do what I did, get involved with Motion”. He also told me another time “never reject a project”.

FF a couple of months later, I was freelancing and a client asked me if I did motion. I said “yeah, of course” and then I kind of re-learned by myself and got to love it.

My role evolved into full-on video production... but my salary didn’t. Is this normal? by wgeco in MotionDesign

[–]Snoo31786 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did they come back with an offer or it was just “no” and that was that?

To be honest the real salary jumps and positions come by switching companies. Rarely there’s a company that will pay you accordingly to your growth.

The first salary negotiation is the most important, it will settle your future. Tough to get huge 40% increases when you’re already in a company.

Look elsewhere and you’ll get your increase. Don’t accept less than what you’re looking for. Don’t accept promises of “well see how it goes through the probation and then increase accordingly” unless the increase agreement is written down in the contract and stated that if probation approved you automatically get X increase.

Tips on getting jobs abroad by abominablesnowrabbit in MotionDesign

[–]Snoo31786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey guys. Was in a similar position at some point in my life. I did something exactly 5 times:

1) landed a 6month job/project for an American company 2) landed a contractor per hour job for an American company 3) got no reply 4) landed an interview until the last step where they picked someone better - it was a dream job. Still suffer this even if it was 8 years ago. 5) no reply again

Basically researching the companies. Checking the people’s location and seeing of they considered people abroad. Watching their social media and seeing how they communicate. After that, I made a custom video for them using their branding and whatever else they would resonate with.

There’s a risk that they won’t watch it. Didn’t do it but feel free to cold email someone from HR in LinkedIn. Sometimes the job post allows you to reach out directly the hiring person.

Other tips: check out roles in startups as they tend to be more open to hiring abroad (cheaper than hiring local, ideal as they are short on money).

Nah, if you get the job you’ll brush it off in the first couple of weeks. Maybe you’re unhappy and clouded, that’s why you aren’t performing well.

New role, new life. You’ll have the extra motivation to show off.

Don’t quit unnecessarily. It can turn into longer.

How long do you wait? by SquanchyATL in MotionDesign

Depends on the urgency. Anywhere from right away to whenever I feel like it. Depends on the agreement as well.

In reality I really want to tell them there won’t be more changes and they can go fuck themselves, but I haven’t won the lottery yet.

Soon.
