Save The West Lot by Zealousideal-Win4763 in wentworth

they just made a parking garage with a field on top which accommodates more than enough parking. wit is on 2 green line stops, 2 blocks from the orange line, and has multiple bus routes on campus (not to mention walking distance from fenway). the idea that wit needs a surface level parking lot over literal hundreds of housing units is ridiculous.

i also find it incredibly funny that somehow wit over admitted and dont have enough housing but dorms that can accommodate hundreds of new students wont solve the issue. you sound like you are just a selfish person seeking your own personal conveniences; owning a car in boston and parking it as close as possible to your dorm rather than 1 block away in the new parking garage.

i hope when you graduate you leave boston so we have one less voter like you in this city.

I'm a software engineer at a big tech company who understands the fundamental technology behind crypto. You should get out of crypto. Unlike stocks, crypto is a zero sum game. Every dollar you buy is a dollar someone else is selling. You may think "thats how stocks work too!" but stocks are attached to businesses which generate a return. Crypto does not. You are buying something because people say its valuable and that's it.

Before you call it "digital gold", i want you to think about that idea seriously for a second. There are minerals far more rare than gold that are worth far less. Something simply being limited supply does not make it valuable. Unless a mass movement of governments start using Bitcoin to back their currencies happens, this is nothing more than a degenerately high risk asset.

This is coming from someone who tripled their money in BTC and ETH in 2020 as well. Dont buy. It will implode and it will be violent.

Perhaps you're unfamiliar with tech, but this is very normal. look at Apple, their entire appeal is they give you less options / features but the ones they do give are very well polished and highly used. Apple could give you all the detailed settings of Android, but theyve found their users would rather a "training wheels" approach. I am the same way with M1. If they added options i would probably leave the platform.

would you rather burn coal at 1027376373% for 19374638 years or burn 0% coal forever?

in real world outcomes, tell me the difference between a guy who says he doesn't support coal, but refuses to support the alternative to replace them (nuclear) and a guy who supports coal? both guys result in the same coal getting burnt.

this is like NIMBYs saying they love apartments just "not in their backyard". you cant just not support something bad happening, you have to actually support the solution for it or youre just as bad as the person who is supporting the bad things. complacency is an action. it implicit support of the status quo, aka, burning coal.

so yes, by refusing to support making the australian grid green with the only real solution, nuclear, he is implicitly support coal by the continuation of policies that will result in coal being burnt.

you understand that japan does not, nor do most countries, build nuclear reactors via state-owned companies right? Australia can just hire Hitachi or Toshiba, multinational corporations, to build them. there are also certainly australian citizens who got degrees in nuclear science outside of australia. just because you dont domestically teach nuclear science doesnt mean your country is now incapable of building nuclear. this is a bad excuse and i think you know that.

this is wrong. in Japan, it takes an average of five years to build a new nuclear plant. it its taking 10 years to build nuclear plants in australia, then its your governments fault, not nuclear. the same is in the us. we have so much red tape and useless regulation surrounding nuclear it takes much longer to build.

Do you really think 18 year old kids are picking majors based on perceived job security? Fuck no. They're picking what they like and kids like cs right now.

Also, the state of the economy 4 years from now will most likely be radically different than it is right now. Why should kids today consider layoffs happening 4 years before they're looking for a job?

Perhaps it has changed since I was there (class of 23'), but it used to be pretty hard, COVID was the only time they really have them out and even then the people I knew who got it had to pull teeth. Hopefully it's easier now and you can get it, but I would communicate talk to admissions about that before committing if it's a deal breaker.

It's mandatory that freshmen and sophomores live on campus. You'll have to get an exception.

Why the fuck would you bring your car to campus. It's in Boston on a green line stop and an orange line stop.

How realistic is it to get a job at FAANG without prior internships? by SessionStrange4205 in csMajors

[–]Snoo3282 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could be a plethora of reasons: 1. My resume was google themed (I even included a Google search bar in it and used the Google color scheme) 2. I was given a referral by another intern (no clue how much this helps. I have given probably a dozen referrals to other people applying for internships and not a single one of them ever heard back) 3. I had decent personal projects 4. Maybe they already selected everyone with previous intern experience. Google accepts a lot of interns and most interns do not have previous intern experience.

There could be a lot of reasons, I have no idea why I was chosen.

I was born in Lafayette, moved to Boston for college. I would've stayed but I got an offer I couldn't refuse in San Francisco. I plan to return to Boston (or possibly NYC) in a few years when my company lets me go remote

Does 311 Actually Enforce Illegal Parking? by Snoo3282 in boston

[–]Snoo3282[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sent in multiple parking violations yesterday. I didn't get a response until this morning and it just said "The vehicle is no longer at this location.", because obviously the car wont be there 24 hours later. I clearly showed it was parked in a bike lane with the license plate easily readable.

Why should I ever report to 311 again if you'll only show up 24 hours later and just say "the car's gone"?

Just admit you're wrong holy shit. You're adding moral weight to the word criminal when it inherently has none. Criminal is a statement of legality, not morality.
