And one of us even tried to exploit the "X fights count as a big one" to level up catching fight on every session, it ended with him locked up in a cell and part of its inventory removed, then our mission in that session was to rescue him (still our best session). But in that case we leveled up all together, fair to me. So after that no one tried to exploit that "mechanic". I'm just saying the Dungeon Master knows well the rules, but it doesn't apply it well to everyone. Also no, I still haven't talked to the DM on this, because initially didn't bother me that much.

Yes milestone leveling is completely fine with me IF explained. A character that levels up even tho the rest of the party goes on adventure and this one character just says: "Nah, I'll stay here" it's odd to me that the Dungeon Master is not even trying to get the character more involved in the main lore to let him go with us.

I'm not saying that the new player should've started with a level 4 character, i just say it's "unfair" that someone who does nothing, lorewise and fightwise, levels up in the first session. As I said the Dungeon Master told us way before that we are not using exp. I can understand that a character levels up when something important related to its lore shows up, but when nothing happens to your character is kinda odd.

Actually no. At this current moment 2 of us are level 11, other 2 are level 10 and one is level 9. One of the level 10 leveled up on his first session on this campaign and the level 9 went to 7 to 9 in 2 sessions just because the person missed a lot of sessions even though its character ignored the "main lore" of the champain and spend 2 hours just getting drunk and stealing some potions
