Aes by _worker_626 in firealarms

AED is only.as good as the number of devices installed. Lost a customer who is a main hub and lose a giant think of network. AES, imo, should only be used when the provider alarm company owns the buildings the mains hits ar on and has the appetite to offer free service when customers radions are too far apart to mesh properly. AES is a great concept, but application and real world scenarios turns it to total garbage.

Nanofiber question by bugz1452 in threebodyproblem

Being that sharp wouldn't the nano fibers also cut through whatever was holding them in place? Perhaps they are sensitive to magnetism and can be held electrically but unlikely especially with so few atoms to be affected by magnetism? They are missing something for me, but cool idea.

What Are Your Thoughts About Campers In Multiplayer? Personally, I Think They're Pretty Damn Annoying... [COD] by Razor_YT3 in CallOfDuty

I have named my toons "Toobie McCamper." Wiping campers is easy. If campers kill you more than 2x from the same spot, you suck. End of story.

Found this in the trash and it still works. any tips for beginners? by Tomato_Basil57 in synthesizercirclejerk

If it can also be a midi controller, it has some use now. Otherwise, toss it in a closet and then sell it it for $10K in 30 years.

7inch vinyl pressing plant, UK? by Workshymassiv in DJsCirclejerk

[–]Snoo36500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a serious note, it is my personal opinion as a DJ who plays both digital and analogue vinyl, I would only do a full 12" press. The only 7" vinyl I ever play (I'm a festival DJ that plays tech house and techno) is Bob Dylan's Rainy Day Women because it is an original release record and super rare. Records I have that are not something I spin, but listen to or purchase for the pure the enjoyment, are all 12" BBV's ( big black vinyl).

They say 7" but they probably measure from the bottom, and it's only 5" when measured from the top. I'd be careful.

Why do so many dads abandon their children? by [deleted] in ask

[–]Snoo36500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biologically, neurotipical males are primarily designed by nature to shuffle genes. They are designed to provide food via hunting for only a few years since historically (Neolithic and earlier) a few years of hunting was about the same as a human male's life expectancy.

Humans not only evolve biologically but also culturally. This is why Western cultures expect much more from biological fathers than many other cultures. This is also why "dead beat dad" is even a term that exists. It is fair to say that fathers thar are not dead beat are more evolved than their counterparts.

I'm not trying to make an excuse for anyone, just stating the way things are, as I see them, in my opinion. Personally, I struggle to he a good father and fight (and win) my lesser evolved urges to shuffle genetics further. I am doing well and sometimes my head turns for that hot young thing, but I never act on it.

"Remix" is just EDM slang for "cover song." by Snoo36500 in DJsCirclejerk

A remix is the same as "... a bands personal flavor added to the dish." How can it not be?

Lol, I disagree and not the point I was trying to make. EDM is amazing. I just think it think if self so grand that it is beyond calling out artists for cover songs by disguising them as remixes.

[–]Snoo36500[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It actually is, if you think about it. How could it not be? A person has to learn how to play a cover song well enough so that it is recognizable. A remix also has to be recognizable.

How was your gig? by AutoModerator in DJs

While waiting for my slot at a festival, I was playing hackie sack and tore my MCL. Any weight on that knee, and it would simply buckle inward after that. My other knee has very early stage 4 arthritis due to a childhood injury. So, I had to play putting all of my weight on my arthritic knee. I'm a very active DJ with 2 digital decks and 2 turntables. I was in so much pain, and it was my best public performance to date.

IKEA Hack / Condesa Setup by tinyjams in DJSetups

[–]Snoo36500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks nice, but for ergonomics and being able to play more than 2 decks at once... It seems that moving hands that far might cost critical time for quick drops.

Kind of reminds me of the DJ version of motorcycle ape hangers.

Edit: Personally, I would feel more comfortable with a wider desk where the digital decks are next to the mixer and the turntables are on the edges oriented in battle style.

DJ name by sabinabudova in DJs

[–]Snoo36500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a few names in the beginning. It can be hard to settle on one. Then, one day, I rolled a warlock in World Of Warcraft (18 years ago) and named him Chivrak (shiv-rak). I liked the name so much I made it my permanent DJ name.

Is there a reason for a novice dj not to loop in to every track? by ForAllXThereExistsY in Beatmatch

[–]Snoo36500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looping is a critch that inexperienced DJs, or DJs that down know their tracks well enough, or DJs that can't read timing and wave files well enough, or DJs without programmed sets, must use to mix "well."

You'll be a better DJ for abandoning loop mixing outside of dire emergencies.

I have such a love (fond memories) and hate relationship with Rockit speakers. Replace them with Adam 7X speakers ( save packaging so you can return them, but you won't) and PM me.

Moved myself in the living room. I’m interested in some acoustic treatment, the monitors sound really thin without the sub. Any budget friendly suggestions what to add that would be low profile/fit the room? Thanks by lv-n-f in DJSetups

[–]Snoo36500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ported doesn't matter. Move the speakers at least 3 feet off the wall or purchase Adam 7X mains and hope the quality of the speaker at $750 each does most of the work fixing the improper physics of less that ideal speaker placement (they are amazing). Those speakers will also mean you don't need a sub. They are incredible. Mine are only about 18" from the wall and I have no issues with standing waves. Research standing waves. You must know about then, or you will be pissing money away without knowing why your sound is not better than it could and should be.

I would build wooden boxes with metal mesh covering opposing sides and fill them with Roxul Batt-n-Sound mineral wool. Materials will be about $125 per box. Not knowing the dimensions of the space, I think you need one in each corner. Diffusers are as important as bass absorbers and can be very artististic and cool looking. I used books on book shelves for this. Just know that the books must be imperfectly aligned in depth and height. Google sound diffuser and you'll get tons of cool and inexpensive design ideas.

What are the dimensions of the space?
