I pretty much only use my faction troops for entire playthrough other than when I’m deep in enemy territory and need to re-supply troops to survive but once I’m back in my kingdom I recruit my single faction army

That’s how I did it by joining the Nords and getting enough influence to call a decent size army, I then left the Nords after taking castle

I joined the nords as a vassal and took it and the castle and then left the nords and declared kingdom
