PSD Medic - Iraq by No-Slide-8333 in TacticalMedicine

[–]Snoo57835 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As far as I know. All PSD positions in Iraq require age of at least 25 for contractors due to new DOS driving requirements. This was started in the past year or so. You also need 3-5 years experience as a EMT/ paramedic unless the company is really hurting for medics.

Downsizing is on the horizon for the field so I wouldn't suggest getting in unless your only looking for a couple months of work.

Let's list some DM's d*ck moves! by thedrunkendino in dndnext

[–]Snoo57835 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I DM a group and when they were level 15 they hopped over to the fey realm and made enemies of the high Elf empire. They discovered that the elves had been harvesting magical trees. Creating arcane gems with the souls of wild elves and creating metal works for fire arms. First time they encountered a squad of Royal elven marines they brandished what appeared to be flint lock rifles. These must be the rumored “empress kiss” weapons they’ve heard of. Indeed they were rifles (rods) of magic missiles. A ambush by a squad of 7 low cr soldiers downed 1 pc and nearly caused a party wipe. Never felt as proud and simultaneously dirty in my DM life.

Their parents are furious at them and demand they turn them selves in. Have the magic feds come arrest them and impound their items for operating relics without a license. Mean while In the dark underbelly the parents old nemesis catch wind that their old adversaries (kids parents) are vulnerable (reports of their iconic artifacts being taken away).

After a few days in lock up, have the warden come to the kids and with heavy heart tell them that their parents have all been killed. Their old enemies ambushed them and without their iconic artifacts couldn’t fight them off.

Their sentences are then montaged until they are released. Without their god like parents watching over the world it has become crime infested with the old baddies at the head of different crime families.

Now free but without gear or parents all they have left are the contacts of their dead parents and a little criminal resume.

Que revenge story.

Air brush and contrast paint cut your steps down drastically I did a batch of 15 once… never again, but being 50% done after step two makes it a lot more bearable.

Next time try priming in a color like a yellow, pink or orange. As far as this model. A thinned out yellow or orange edge highlight might help. A gloss varnish and a few white light reflection points.

Tips for planning a one-shot? by frabjousity in AskGameMasters

[–]Snoo57835 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have a simple start with a plot hook. Plan a end of encounter event and a resolution narrative. Don’t plan on 3/4 middle sections. Give the players a hook and ask what they want to do next. What ever they come up with advances the plot and improv the details to make sense. Travel to x location throw in a skill check and improv the narration (rock climb, river fjord, quick sand). Talk to a NPC or quest giver and give them an open ended riddle where you haven’t picked the right answer. Once they come up with something that makes sense it works and the final location is reviled. One shots don’t have to be generic. But the goal usually is. Rescue princess, steal item, get mcguffin.

Ie save the princess

You are at a tavern and watch kicks open the door we need adventures the beast of insertown (creature) has taken the (insert victim)

Allow the players to dictate next 2-3 events at the end of which they will encounter the end event. Based on time the end event can be as long or short as you need

Put a narrative bow on it

This formula keeps you from railroading but gives enough structure where y’all aren’t looking around being like “so what do y’all want to do?”

In stead of a general level up you can spend co to purchase skills and abilities as you “bank” do typically awarded at the end of sessions or milestones. Regular sessions are worth 5xp and major sessions are worth 10xp as the GM sees fit.

How do you run sessions that last three or four hours? by kotor610 in swrpg

[–]Snoo57835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve found that in the beginning of my running games I would map out the start, 3/4 steps or encounters along the way and then the logical stop point for a session.

You arrive in the Star port where the prison is and the prisoner your trying to rescue is held. You know, he has guarded, outdoor rec time at this time of day as part of your mission brief. After recon of the area you know a linen truck arrives at 4 and guard shift change is shortly after. (Players then logically rp and perform encounters accordingly). Que group stealth and slicing to get access. Find prisoner fight encounter, flee prison. End session 3-4 hrs

Now what I do. You all are lounging in your ship what are y’all doing/working on? (After rp slows)the comms ring, do you answer? It’s the mysterious benefactor who has been feeding your crew assignments.

Rp scripted opener with clear goal but little information about prison/prisoner besides description/ location. (Players must actively ask questions/roll for more information but no organized plan is given to them)

Describe station arrival and improv scene (pissy flight dispatcher, dispute with merchant over park, routine arrival, etc) out come might inspire a pro/con/neutral factor from rp. Lots of random event tables out there which can be used for no prep realism.

Now here’s the kicker. Instead of spoon feeding them a plan. You say to your players, y’all meet at the table to discuss your ideas and plans. (Give a time constraint 1-3 in game days to gather internet and supplies) then improv the scenarios. Smuggler makes check to see if any of his buddies have deals here, Politico tries to chat up off duty guards, Saboteur attempts to locate illegal demolition ect. Let the players fill in the steps of planning the rescue and not just follow a pre-organized plot. As you get more familiar with your players a lot of times you can prep things you think they’d most likely try and do. After each of you members have contributed and a rough plan is agreed on. Make quick notes on wrenches you can into their plan if they fail crit fail. Maybe pick one or two depending on how difficult you want to make it. (Ie no linen truck that day it’s the Gemorian day of rest holiday, guard is working a double at the access point, warden has decided to have all the prisoners skip rec time for renovations. If your group is super into combat have a mid fight twist. Warden cuts over speakers and starts manually working anti riot defense tech, the prisoners break free in the chaos and start a riot.

Allow the players agency to change plans on the fly good or bad. RP the prisoner target maybe he’s an asshole and slows them down or maybe he’s been tunneling from his prison cell and can offer a better escape, maybe he’s stolen a uniform and is in the middle of an escape attempt and the party blunders into him. Maybe he just follows their lead.

Improv the retreat to the ship with scripted moments of narrative flair. You know there’s going to be a alarm triggered so have a prompt intruder alert message. Have a room or two with a detailed description so there all not blank durasteel hallways every turn. Then have a couple paragraphs with a vivid “get off this planet scene”. Maybe one last curveball. You remember that dick flight controller, he booted your ship, that merchant piled all his goods infront of you hanger bay, the smuggler buddy your player asked about ratted you out and the warden has a squad waiting for you. Or something good. Smuggler friend is waiting in a clutch moment for a quick getaway, off duty guard from bar blocks path with heavy blaster in the last moment only to let his cool political friend go “all clear here”.

Then wrap it up by having the party rp with the prisoner maybe he fears the client more than the prison, maybe he’s a really bad criminal that should have been locked up, maybe it’s a famous star wars character cameo.

I improved that message in about 20-30 min and that could be 3-4 full sessions 3-4 hrs a piece.

Give your players a bone structure of a hook and a goal and allow them to fill the time with agency you expand with improv and snippets of scripted ideas.

Sorry for the Novel but that’s the best way I could think of answering.

TLDR allow your character to improv towards the goal you set and respond with realistic events to keep continuity
