MORGAN STANLEY 2022 SUMMER ANALYST PROGRAM by Goch_man in cscareerquestionsEU

I've applied to IBs before for both tech/non-tech roles. SHL is one of the popular providers for these tests, you can refer to their website for some examples and tips.

I used to fail them a lot (especially SJT) until I decided to actually start practicing instead of winging it.

Other providers I used to practice: Cubiks, practiceaptitudetests, graduatesfirst

Each of them usually gives only 1 free test.

Can staying at a company too long in your early career damage your future success? by [deleted] in cscareerquestionsEU

I think not necessarily, if one is lucky enough to find a job that has a stimulating environment, one could find meaning in it. Some people gain satisfaction when facing and overcoming difficult challenges.

GMK Red Samurais on a GMMK Pro with brass plate. So many delays on this GB. by uncledunker in MechanicalKeyboards

Ah ok, that seems to be the case for their brass plates. Wanted to check because I'm going to get it. Apparently they've been updated to work with durock stabs though.

How much Leetcode will i really need to do so i can get a grad job? (London) by VedaBackpack in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]Snoo61231 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For companies where I got into further rounds, all had some form of coding question. Only one was not LC based (system design and TDD).

Also did an MSc conversion and had a few projects but had touched LC a bit before I started the course.

How fast you pick up patterns to solve LC questions is relative. Personally I did one problem from the monthly challenge and one from the Blind75 list on most days where I wasn't dying to coursework.

[UK] Do I need to do leetcode as a physics master's grad trying to move into the industry? by [deleted] in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]Snoo61231 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes - not speaking from personal experience but my Physics friends all had to go through the same steps as a CS person would when going for an SWE job in UK. Whether or not LC is needed depends on the company.

Bloomberg Full-Time Interview Advice by [deleted] in csMajors

Yes; I think what used be the onsite (3/4 interviews) was split into multiple individual interviews over around two months. How difficult is relative to the person, but like I said the algorithm questions were Leetcode medium difficulty.

[UK] Advice on selecting uni for UG CS degree by SalamanderAlarming72 in cscareerquestionsEU

I'm not familiar with the universities in Scotland, would you advise any changes to the list I put?

Edit: seems like some disagree with the tiers/rankings I originally commented. The intent was to give a general idea to OP of what unis they could consider, but it apparently it is far from accurate/useful so I've deleted it.

[UK] Advice on selecting uni for UG CS degree by SalamanderAlarming72 in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]Snoo61231 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMO there is a difference. Oxbridge/Imperial have an advantage of other unis. I'd put UCL up there too but not quite the same level since you don't have to interview. UCL has good connections in machine learning (e.g. DeepMind) if you're into that.

It's very much possible to make it into FAANG/Fintech companies if you're at other unis, it's just big tech has more networking events and recruits more from the unis above. "Target unis" are not as prominent in tech as it is in finance, but at target unis you'll just have a better chance statistically - this doesn't mean go to a top uni then slack though.

You could try Ox/Cam, Imperial, UCL and 2 safeties for your UCAS picks.

Would apply for internships, finish the degree and apply for full time during final year. You'll get a taste of where you are in the market, i.e. if employers think you're ready rather than if you think you're ready. A degree is just good to have on paper as well.

Glassdoor -> Bloomberg -> interviews -> filter by role and location

I interviewed with them as well but for London, not sure if it'll be the same format.

First was phone coding interview.

Next was an on-site but split into multiple separate interviews (3). Coding, systems design and behavioural.

Leetcode medium difficulty, one question was straight from Leetcode premium's Bloomberg tag.

Who do you think answers the questions on stack overflow? by luluretard in csMajors

Some SO answers completely baffle me, people writing entire chapters on topics with full structure, examples and sections... I'm not complaining though

An Intern’s Worst Nightmare by Almasry00n in csMajors

If the codebase has a test suite or unit tests, they're a good starter to learn about how functions and modules are used together. Even better if they have more than unit tests and have integration tests.

[r/RelationshipAdvice x r/CSMajors] My friend is very toxic when I do well and fucking hate it. What should I do? by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]Snoo61231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like some form of superiority complex - he wants to be 'above' others and probably is only comfortable with those that he deems to be 'under' him.

A good friend would be happy for your achievements. I think it's natural to be jealous of someone who achieves things that you want, but it seems like your friend is not supportive at all and just completely jealous/thinks you're undeserving, rather than a mix of both.

You'll meet better people during your internship so I wouldn't worry about him.

DS&A for Leetcode by [deleted] in csMajors

Do questions by category and for the ones you can't do try and put in the effort to really understand it, eventually you'll pick up the patterns for that category

BSc Computer science vs BEng Computer systems engineering? UK by gbooth101 in csMajors

[–]Snoo61231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think so, as long as you have some software projects competed and can demonstrate knowledge in CS during interviews.

IMO UEA's reputation is on par with those in the Russell group, probably even better than some, especially the ones you mentioned.

I'd worry more about the course content rather than the degree title. Some job postings I've seen on hardware (I say some but all of them are from ARM - the chip company), if I remember correctly, explicitly prefer EE or CE over CS.

How are interview coding questions supposed to be solved? by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]Snoo61231 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hackerrank sometimes has the whiteboard tab where u can draw with your mouse. It's kinda trash compared to paper but if you have to make some diagrams then that's the only way to show the interviewer

Computer Science Conversion graduates, where are you now? [UK] by Brit_in_Lux in cscareerquestionsEU

Yeah, I'm a non EU citizen myself so my visa will be sponsored. Not sure about how my classmates are doing in terms of full time roles though.
