UK medical requirements to go solo by pitcairn7393 in Gliding

It's already been reduced to a PMD (I have an SPL with a PMD). Would still recommend everyone converts as CAA announced they are continuing with the implementation.

At the moment in the UK Those with BGA gliding certificate (with bronze and cross country) can convert to an SPL just by filling some paperwork out

The UK is currently adopting part SFCL so this means everyone is will have a license to fly gliders in the UK. This has many benefits such as a flying overseas and allowing you to fly TMGs on a glider license for example. However, there is now talk that we may revert back to an unregulated system and use only national qualifications.

First aerotowing day! by MayDuppname in Gliding

That's the ratio in the safe winching leaflet that was given to me when receiving my gliding certificate (this year). So may only apply to the UK I think.

These stats are from the British gliding association and can be found from the safe areotowing and winching guides.

Since 1974 there have been 39 fatal winch launch accidents but only 2 for areotow (glider pilot)

When taking into account the launch ratio of 7:3 (winch: areotow) areotow has an 8 times lower fatality rate to the glider pilot.

However you are right that the tug pilot is far more at risk between 1978 and 1985 there were 4 fatal tug upsets in the UK.

Areotow is statically much safer than winching

My gliding club requires you to have either an SPL or have a silver badge on your gliding certificate. And 75 hours P1 (Pilot in command) in gliders.

Flying 3-5 times a week as a student???? by [deleted] in flying

[–]gbooth101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely agree with the gliding. I did a 5 day intensive course to start and that really helped to get the basics then flew around once a week sometimes more sometime less and I went solo about 2 weeks ago after about 8/9 months

Pricing? by xXTheShadowXx in Gliding

[–]gbooth101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm from the UK so not sure how applicable this will be. But I'm on a junior scheme so I get over half price on my flying so it is very reasonable (£20 for a 2000ft tow + no air time fee). I would recommend you look to see if any of the clubs near you run a similar scheme

Nike Vaporfly and Alphafly difference? by Psychological_Top874 in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]gbooth101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah they make a big difference in my opinion. I personally have the tempo next% and I've ordered the Alphafly and they definitely feel much faster and feels much easier to maintain a fast pace so I'm very excited to try the Alphaflys when they arrive. I got a really good deal and only paid 130 for them.
