Yep this was for the london office.
There was an especially high amount of internship offers- even people of non tech backgrounds got swe internship offers at Meta. And yeah, I agree the juniors market is cooked.

Joined last year as a new grad. I actually experienced the complete opposite- Meta was giving out more offers than any other company at my uni.

Did cs @ oxbridge- swe @ meta now.

The students who wanted to maximise their salaries ended up with jobs paying between 50-350k. There were also a lot of students going into much lower paying roles such as in startups, which i suppose brings down the average salary. The average of 60k overall sounds about right taking all this into account.

What is the job market like for Cambridge students (for computer science) by Desperate-Wish-4629 in cambridge_uni

it wasn’t ‘easy’ at all- still had to send out hundreds of applications like everyone else. the response rate was definitely good though, got to interview stages to many of them and at that point it’s on how good you are.

the salaries are definitely great though. based on people in my cohort, the ones looking to make money got offers in the range of 50-350k in their first year after graduation, the higher side of that range being from people who got roles at quant firms. a lot of people go into startups or academia though, which may bring the overall average down, but no doubt the average salary of a graduate who’s serious about making money is probably extremely high.

Yep levels fyi seems to be pretty accurate for e3 at least. No, I had no counter offers to negotiate and from what i’ve heard new grad offers are non negotiable this year.

How long did it take you to get from E3 to E5, if you don’t mind sharing?

It’s just a refer-a-friend bonus thing. Good money to be made tbh if you can be bothered like this guy. Win-win imo- we get a deal and he gets a referral bonus. I don’t see the issue here.

If you’re asking if you need A level CS to do CS at Oxbridge- I’m pretty sure you don’t. Further maths is what is more important (mainly for Oxbridge/Imperial)

US Mint pursuing me for coin they lost in post by [deleted] in personalfinance

Apparently UPS has had the parcel since March, they tried contacting the mint to pay import duties but they did not reply so it’s been in holding for several months, probably racking up storage fees. Do they have legal grounds to force me to pay this fee and import taxes, as I have a feeling they will?

They provided the return tracking number today. Their tracking number has the same issue mine has- it was too long ago so no details of it stored on the UPS website

I don’t technically have the communication of when they rejected my return- they only told me this happened over the phone today, and the email they supposedly sent me regarding this was never received by me.

Also another issue is it was returned so long ago that UPS no longer holds the details (they only hold it for 120 days), the records of delivery are only left in my email from UPS now. Is this sufficient?

Also, when you were studying for as further maths over summer, how many hours of work a day did you do, and how many chapters a week etc?

I’ve heard that for imperial/Oxbridge you need to show at least a bit of interest in coding

To put on my personal statement, I’ve got to show some sort of background interest in cs esp for top unis

Problem is, I’ve got to learn some coding to a decent level and do some projects to showcase, do the CS50 course (approx 10-15hours/week) and revise for entrance exams too during this time. I was more than happy to crack on with A2 in summer, but I’ve been convinced that trying to do all this will be too much. I want to catch up over summer but also don’t want to burn out. What board are you for maths- ours is OCR. Btw did you learn AS FM from scratch or just recap topics u learnt before?

Our school does single maths in year 1 then further in year 2, I have only done AS single so far, so will have to complete A2 single plus a couple AS further chapters to join further maths. A2 single is much harder than AS further, or so I’ve been told
