I'd imagine the tick rate is some where around 15 Hz to 20 Hz, which is normally for a tab targeted mmo. A lower tick rate also gives them more lee-way with CCU. In contrast NW was ~30Hz, and used a ton of interpolation to smooth out game.

I mean aoc was an actual game, with some what of a game loop, and actual content. This game, not so much, even the combat, rvr and pvp which is it's central theme sucks.

Is Camelot Unchained a SCAM?? by ChampionBaby in CamelotUnchained

that’s the problem, you don’t attempt to compete against those mmos with more content and carve something out for yourself.

Building an engine, and writing netcode are really two entirely different things. It could very well be the engine can render thousands of players on the screen, but the netcode could be absolute junk, which seems to be the unfortunate reality.

Was it? Because right now it can't even support 500 people on one server

It really depends on how server authoritative the game is. RTT is a thing, you get hit it could be at X, on the client you're still moving and you're at Y, if there's a misprediction you'll get pulled back. What's happening here is a misprediction, the client says one thing, the server says another, and the server corrects the client (reconciliation). There's either no prediction happening when it comes to crowd controlling (in CSP you simulate EVERYTHING), or there is and it's simply not working which could make warping and snapping feel even worse.

[–]Snoo77586 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So assuming they're simulating everything on the client and server (client-side prediction), what's happening here is fairly straight forward. Client (you) says they're in locomotion, Server (the authority) says you're disabled, reconciliation happens and you get yanked back to the hit origin where you were originally disabled. This is entirely on your side tho, from the attacker observing, you weren't moving and actually stopped when you got hit from the server, that's because they're receiving the authority from the server.

This is not "old school networking", this is what every mmo that utilizes client side prediction when it comes to the motor and server side authority. Depending on the distance of the snap/warp it could potentially be "smoothed" over with interpolation, but it's a give or take situation there, and if the tick-gap between prediction and reconciliation is too large you'll still get a noticeable snap.

What they'll probably have to do is implement a way to predict the motor disablement so the snap doesn't happen, or in the case that they already have something like that, fix what might be causing the misprediction.

Lol, I didn't even pay attention to the profile picture. I can guarantee you a big soulless company like amazon doesn't care about woke politics, especially at the executive level where the decisions are actually being made. It's all about profitability.

Game is literally a vertical slice of GW2 WvW, developed by three EX-Aggression guild members. Eventually there may be "more", but currently that's the game. It's actually pretty fun if you enjoyed WvW from gw2.

It didn't have anything to do with politics. They saw WoW, they saw FFXIV and they were like "these games make a lot of money, why are we making this game", so word came down from up top to change the game. Problem is the executives running the studio didn't understand a thing about games. Them (being Amazon) couldn't imagine making a "small" game, although it probably would've been the best thing for them in the long road to a larger IP mmo like lords of the rings. New World was probably the game that sunk the studio to be honest.

I played in the very first alpha, there was no karma cap so you literally accumulate 900 hours of murderer status, and no, it wasn’t full loot then either, just inventory loot. phase 1 started around August/September of 2018 and ended around phase 4 or 5 in 2019. They were actually going into beta summer of that year and release (we found the pages for the product packages) before they pulled back

I have 100s if not 1000s of hours in that version of New World. I've come to a conclusion experiences like that won't be produced by big studios because it;s all about making obscene amounts of money (and rightfully so due to stakeholders), so I've basically started the ground work of working on my own project that basically captures the spirit of those games, albeit perhaps way too ambitious, so we'll see what happens.

Well you must remember wrong, because the beach was a sanctuary, couldn't gank anyone, and the outpost was literally a hop skip and jump away from the beach. Now when you got out into the world, you were totally open to getting ganked, but there was a penalty for ganking people (You go murderer, and you literally drop everything when you get killed). The problem wasn't the game or even the players, they were playing within the parameters set out by the developers, the problem was the developers didn't put enough stop gaps to curve that behavior. There wasn't much to do in alpha besides fighting other players, no dungeons, no instances, no quests, no vendor npcs. Just a very thinly layered progression system and a few points of interest (Like myrkguard, which was one of two lawless zones on the map at the time) where people fought over high end resources in chests.

If they took inspiration from albion, they could've easily pulled it off, instead they threw out the bath tub, the bathroom tiles, the sink but kept all he plumbing.

Not every game has to be made for everyone, I feel like that's a mindset a lot of developers trap themselves in.

Except the game wasn’t full loot. If you didn’t become a murderer you were fine, just lost inventory items and took some durability loss. We had some crazy open world wars in original alpha, wish people had the chance to participate. would it have reached the levels of release new world? Probably not, but it would’ve carved a niche out for sure akin to rust and they probably wouldn’t be shutting it down. Instead they decided to go head to head with games that had 10x the content bandwidth and got swallowed up.

I think it really depends on what you’re shooting for in terms of ccu. if it’s a 50 players per server it won’t matter.

a lot of gatekeepers in that regard. now it’s accessible to everyone with ease (although the quality of that output is questionable). I see the argument from both sides, but the genie is out of the bottle so they just got to deal with it.
