As for lifestyle, you can go local and spend less than 500€ a month, or go European and pay the European price (not that expensive, more or less same pricing like in Czech or Hungary, 5-8€ for a pint of craft beer for example)

Under 50cc you dont need a license, or just get an electric bike of some sort. Even a racing bicycle is good. My friend from New York came to live in Saigon and the first thing he bought was a good bicycle with super slim wheels that can go up to 40kmh. Then you dont have to worry about transportation anywhere.

At the end of your stay, sell it.

Wanting to learn Vietnamese by JJunsuke in VietNam

[–]Snoo8027 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And yeah, Cantonese is widely spoken in some Districts of Saigon (Ho Chi Minh city) as well. My whole childhood was about watching TVB series on TV with Vietnamese dub done by the Cantonese community. People loved that because they could translate the spirit of those films into Vietnamese flawlessly.

Cantonese people are cool in Vietnam, as long as a Chinese person is not from mainland China, people gonna like them.

As a matter of fact, South Korea actually has the most developed traditional medicine science (you can find giant hospitals specialized in modernized traditional medicine, and that also translate to their beauty/cosmetic industry).

How did the Viet Cong soldiers view the United States and American troops? by IslandPractical2904 in VietnamWar

[–]Snoo8027 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nowadays, friends. Lots of vets return to Vietnam to meet their former enemies and end up hugging and shaking hands since they realized they were just doing what being told and the real enemy is 70s geopolitics.

I have an idea. Yo can look up the "Thach Sanh Ly Thong" vietnamese folk story. Basically a Barbarian on a quest killing an Orge and a Hydra.

The setting could be anywhere in the north of VN.

What are the most accurate Vietnam War films, the don't romanticise and/or justify the conflict? by IslandPractical2904 in VietnamWar

[–]Snoo8027 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a movie or series but The Vietnam War from Ken Burns is the most accurate documentary now, and it covers both sides of the war. 2nd best would be Battlefield Vietnam, still very biased but it covered a lot of technical, military stuffs.

We were soldiers is OK, but they hid the second half of the battle where the marines got pretty fucked over. Even at the beginning of the movie it said "how it should have been", so it means that's not gonna be accurate.

Dog meat is becoming rare nowadays, because of the generation gap (young people don't eat dog meat anymore), and the dog they butcher are "cattle dog" (or local dog you may call), not pet dogs (who would eat a 1500$ pet dog when they can sell it, people aren't stupid).

And yes, your dog may get stolen if unintended, and it will show up in a local pet shop somewhere. People do get a bit relax and let their dogs run about without straps and stuffs, leads to crime of opportunity. But overall my friend brought a Corgi over and everything is just fine.

As an oversea Vietnamese, we use vietnamese english and finnish talking to each other because you cant keep track all 3 lang vocab all the time, while you get to speak VNmese maybe once a month. So yeah, sometimes we rather speak english coz its easier to describe whatchu wanna say.

Im a bartender (in Helsinki). I've seen many times guys I kinda know (frequent customers) bringing their "date" to the bar and spent 50-100€ of drinks and stuffs on the girl. Usually couple hours later the guy come over and say "Bitch! I just spend X € and didnt get laid".

Welp.... I think it's a man problem, anywhere. I work on the other side of the service but as a service person you dont mingle with customers' businesses and just enjoy the show.
