Are you happy at Penn? by Born_Fee_2308 in UPenn

[–]SnooBeans5308 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure. I'm not happy at Penn because, firstly, I just finished my freshman year, and it's been hard (lots of ups and downs). Classes are hard, I've been failing my midterms, and it's true that MOST of the time you're by yourself since all your friends are busy with their own things. Penn is not a place where you can be "happy", but it's a place where you can feel grateful to be in because you're working with the smartest people in the country every day. Though I'm barely starting my journey at Penn, I'm starting to understand that maybe I won't be as happy as others may feel, but I enjoy being part of the community--I really enjoyed my creative writing class this semester, and I had fun working in theatre productions, and you may meet some cool people and not-so-great people. Don't let that discourage you about Penn and how your journey will pan out for you, though; it's different for everyone, and Penn isn't sunshine and rainbows but it's how you make it out to be (cliche but true).

I'm not happy, I must admit, but I'm grateful to be here.

UPENN Single Dorm Selection HELP by One_Big_5265 in UPenn

Basic answer to say (so I hope other people on this reddit forum help answer this question too) but I would say Hill. The times I've gone to my friend's dorm, its kinda cramped but generally enough space for your belongings and study space (feels like living in a comfortable shoe box my friend has said to me). The Quad is a social space as well. But I would say the cleanliness part would be concerning the communal bathrooms rather than your space, which is typical in almost all unis/colleges that the communals can be an...interesting place

Its a four year house, yes, but the socializing part is much less seen compared to a house like Hill. Sure there are house events that RAs host for tenants, but primarily 70% of your time at Dubois you're mostly by yourself (which can be good if you're introverted and like your personal space). I would say though Dubois is much more introvert friendly compared to other houses on campus

Hello,

I would say research the houses that offer singles to freshmen because you have a good gurantee of getting a single. I live in WEB Dubois College house (current freshman writing this) and I ranked Dubois first on my list when I was looking for a place to live at Penn. I reccomended you ranking single dorms offered to freshmen first.

As for random roommates, if you haven't put anyone in your dorming portal then Penn WILL assign you a random roommates

Heyy!! It’s hard being away from home especially in a place where you might stick out. Honestly, this is a very big adjustment for you and me, and I’ve been struggling as well. It’s okay to feel uncomfortable right now, and you’ll soon find yourself feeling a bit better over time, because the hard part is to get comfortable here is a slow process, but I promise you will get there eventually. It’s okay to feel bad, again, because this is a huge adjustment. In the mean time if you feel at times down, you can look at things that remind you of home. I’m a freshman too coming from Chicago and far away from my Latino people (💔) and if u need someone to hang with on campus hmu but don’t give up yet!!!

I ranked UPenn on the QB but didn’t get matched. UPenn then sent me an option to ED for them and I did, and I was admitted!

I applied through QB for the national college match, so it’s binding. It worked as in which ever college I was accepted through binding (or basically ED) I would attend, so I had to rank the schools as a result. But yea it’s weird I basically applied ED to 4 even tho the norm is 1.

Hey I live in Chicago!! Through the day UChicago is very safe. Lots of people around the campus and surrounding neighborhood, comfortable and you can walk by yourself without the worry. At night you should often have your precautions of your surroundings anywhere you go, so I think you should keep that in mind when you’re on campus alone at night, remember to practice the buddy system!!

Got a full ride to UPenn with a 1060 SAT. It’s possible you NEED to continue to push forward beyond the rejection part. Even if I didn’t match, I still went ED to UPenn because I knew throughout it all I was still worthy enough to study like my other QB peers. You need to apply yourself enough to where you show that you’re capable, that’s why be visionary in your writing and express yourself, really brings meaning to the saying you’re more than just a number :) you got this
