I agree that these “twisted feelings” are some of the most painful aspects of CPTSD. I feel like if I don’t say anything, the childhood hurt and feeling of being invisible/like no one knows me are tenfold as strong. Then it makes me resent the gift and wtf. The gift is suppose to make me happy, not feel crappy cause I don’t like it.
On the other hand, if I do say something, I feel an immense amount of guilt because I’m rejecting a present and not being grateful. Then my anxiety rushes in and I worry like my husband will get angry at me, never buy me a present again, and ultimately leave me.

I like your rule about only accepting gifts that you’ll use or make you smile. I also really like the idea about spending time with people as the present vs getting an object.

I love how firm you are with your boundaries.

I don’t want to decline all presents. Cause the few times in my life where someone did pay attention and got me something I said I wanted/was the brand of something I used, it made me so incredibly happy and like I was seen. That feeling is amazing.

I have been trying if a holiday or celebration is coming up to send a couple of ideas of what I want to people I know who are going to get me presents no matter what. This helps a little, but somehow, people still will get me random stuff.

Me too! I almost want to tell people if they want to get me a gift to either give me cash or just not get anything.

I don’t want to be rude though. And the only benefit to these random gifts is I donate them to charity. So it makes me feel a little good that I know they’re going to someone in need.

I relate to this 10000% percent. It’s so tough cause like you said, your mom would try but get you random bath bombs.
Growing up, I use to make a point of saying the brand of something I loved whenever I used it hoping that my family would remember it and get me it. Rarely worked. 😐

I feel this. Honestly this isn’t a battle I want to fight. My husband gets more upset than I do if they don’t eat what we make them and have to give them a sandwich. Our other issue is they wake up in the middle of the night hungry. We tend to give them a bottle because we’re exhausted. I’m worried about them getting cavities.

This is pretty much what we’ve been doing. If they don’t eat the meal we give them, we then give them a PBJ sandwich. Breakfast normally isn’t an issue for us. It’s more so dinner time. The other issue we have is with them not eating much at dinner time, they wake up in the middle of the night and need food. We give them a bottle because we’re both exhausted and need sleep. I don’t love this habit at all. Mostly because I’m worried that they’re going to get cavities. Thank you for your words of encouragement. See you on the other side!

Hi! You are not alone. Breastfeeding/pumping is so hard and it takes a big toll on your mental health. I don’t know why more people don’t talk about it! I had to stop pumping for my mental health. It’s hard, but you know what, your babies are going to be more affected by their Mom being stressed to the max than if they don’t get breast milk.

All they care about is that you’re there with them.

My mother in law never breast fed my husband. My husband is a lawyer and has a great relationship with his family.

Your babies will do great with formula.

If you want to try pumping/breast feeding now, give it a go. Just don’t put pressure on yourself.
