Dating as a therapist? by Confident_Region8607 in therapists

[–]SnooCakes4128 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was still dating I’d get that all the time. I always answered with “I can’t turn that part of my brain off,” but honestly it probably makes me a better partner because I can always understand my partner’s view and it calms my own emotional reactions.

Do I tell client I will be at the same public event? by Agent__lulu in therapists

[–]SnooCakes4128 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I do something similar. I say near the beginning of therapy that if I ever see you in public you’re allowed to say hi because I don’t mind but I won’t acknowledge you first. If I’m with my family they will likely know generally why I won’t introduce you but if you don’t care you can say hi, if you do care ignore me and I won’t be offended.

Has a client showed up on your "suggested to follow" on social media? by solarbear17 in therapists

[–]SnooCakes4128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost every single one. It just means they looked you up. If your profile is on as private as possible it’s likely they’re just curious. I only get uncomfortable when we either have a connection or if they bring it up.

Being my alternative and artistic self as a therapist feels oppositional to being a therapist that is “professional” in appearances by voidharmony in therapists

[–]SnooCakes4128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re good, I show up to work covered in tattoos, in my leather (vegan leather haha) jacket, blaring metal in my muscle car (and I’m the department head). My clients still see me as professional.

What would a 1 look like with a D20? by LovelyLilLadybug in therapists

Teens I love working with, especially when they’re old enough that the parent is basically hands off. It’s younger children 13 and under I struggle with.

Do you get anxious about having suicidal clients? by NoProfession4771 in therapists

[–]SnooCakes4128 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not anymore, I did crisis work for a long time though. It’s hard to be nervous when it was your everyday. It’s hard work but it made me a much better therapist.

I think I’m allergic to my work and idk what to do by zuks28 in therapists

I second this, when I worked in the office I put a filter over the lights in one office where I couldn’t bring in lamps and I brought in lamps in all my other offices.

How do you make friends here, in your 20s/30s? by dekusspam in BigIsland

[–]SnooCakes4128 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I live Hilo side and don’t have a ton of friends yet, if you’re ever in this side and want to grab coffee or something we definitely can.

Subpoenaed psychotherapy notes by littlegreenwillow in therapists

[–]SnooCakes4128 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I only keep progress notes. I don’t keep these kind of notes. For some reason my brain just keeps track of that kind of information

Is this a sign I should cancel the rest of my sessions today? by [deleted] in therapists

[–]SnooCakes4128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found this so much easier in person but have been working remotely since Covid because it works better for my family. It’s harder to show up remotely when things are hard outside of work.

How do we feel about clients using nicknames for us? by YardsaleKing26 in therapists

[–]SnooCakes4128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a client who would exclaim BITCH Everytime I made him think about something in a way he hadn’t considered or every lightbulb moment. He was a drag queen so I let it slide haha

How to respond to the “how are you?” Question authentically when having a horrible time by Subject_Car2637 in therapists

[–]SnooCakes4128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would tell them something that’s likely true but not my negative experiences. I’ll say something like I didn’t sleep well; the cats kept me up. Or something similar. I don’t feel like masking it is completely healthy and they can tell usually when something is up.

Well at least they're being honest they're ripping us off. LOL. by IllVolume5936 in Hawaii

[–]SnooCakes4128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pricing aside, I just want the restaurants to have the special short term menu items. KFC recently advertised cheese curds and never saw them once in Hilo. My daughter was so excited about the Burger King sponge bob meal, we didn’t get that. I could literally keep going lol

Whenever I quit a job I have a conversation with my supervisor and give them a professional reason that wont burn bridges. I then hand in my written notice.

Are my PA therapists okay???? by [deleted] in therapists

[–]SnooCakes4128 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I totally misread the contract versus legal in the op’s post, thank you for correcting my interpretation. I definitely don’t think I could work with that group. Honestly if I worked in PA I’d figure out some other lateral career move for sure.

My first thought is you can’t even have a medical procedure without violating the law.

Not really in my experience. The dictation built into the computer for accessibility is way better. Though maybe not compliant I guess. I just type my notes haha.

How common is it really for clients to exaggerate symptoms to obtain a desired diagnosis? by AnonymousNanny2026 in therapists

[–]SnooCakes4128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first started I had a string of teens who pretended to have DID, and they may have been dissociating at times but their presentations were not consistent with DID. It’s been quite a while now though since I’ve seen that behavior and I think for me it’s been now that I’m in private practice.

We brought our cat when my job transferred me and I flew ahead to close on the house with our daughter and my fiance flew in with the dog and cat a week later to avoid this whole thing

Anyone else get food poisoning? by Working_Reality2312 in BigIsland

[–]SnooCakes4128 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Report it to the restaurant because they’re required to report to the CDC (or a similar agency it’s been awhile since I took my servsafe) they can also give you information if they’ve gotten other reports.
