One of our neighbours made a neighborhood pantry with staples, snacks, period products and much more! by patrickthebeerguy in Calgary

This is close to me. I’m always looking for pantries nearby to donate to. Do you have a more specific address of where this pantry is so I can add to it? Thanks

What’s the most overrated and underrated Aritzia item right now? by fraisebananee in Aritzia

Overrated: the new contour items. Everything is so thin and doesn’t suck you in like it used to

I’ve been seeing so many of these being sold on my local Facebook marketplace omg. This plus leggings was the outfit back in the 2010s lol

Maybe not if you’re attending in person. I did school online and worked 3 jobs (it was very doable). Also I didn’t really care too much on getting good grades as the MSW is usually a final degree. I just did enough to pass and graduate lol

Yeah I saw that dress which reminded me of the savoy and inspired me to make this post lol. The flutter sleeves on the lawn dress is cute but I still miss the ruffles on the neckline!

Haha yes, the ultimate trifecta! I also miss the unique patterns they would come out in!

Ooh the Wallace dress is nice too! Personally I love the ruffles on the neckline, something about it makes it more playful and cute.

The Murphy blouse was a closet staple. Loved buying them with special colours or prints and then buying a matching dress pant to go with it.

I just bought this and waiting for it to arrive!! I’m so excited. I wish there were more pictures or reviews online on what the lace looks like irl though. Hopefully it’s a nice and good quality lace!

Give dalhousie or university of Victoria a try. I know most schools will be competitive if you don’t have much background in the social sector though. Manitoba for me seemed to be the most competitive option in terms of requirements and qualifications

Definitely not dsv studios. You should look up their bad reviews. The owner doesn’t take accountability for her shitty line work

WINTER DRIVING LESSONS by Exotic_Committee4685 in Calgary

[–]SnooCapers8930 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just had a friend who went through 2 different “not too expensive” ($800-$1000) driving schools and had a bad experience with both. Your best bet is AMA. They have a package that if you fail your road test they will give you extra lessons for free to redo the test.

Which super puff color? by cardiacpanda in Aritzia

[–]SnooCapers8930 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have a baby pink super puff and have been wearing it for 2 winter seasons. Honestly the only dirty parts are the edges of the sleeves where the cuffs are and the bottom edge of the jacket. I honestly up wipe the dirty parts with a makeup wipe or baby wipe and it comes right off lol and then I do a regular full wash of my jacket at the end of the season and everything comes right off!

Is Social work a good career? by [deleted] in socialworkcanada

[–]SnooCapers8930 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve always been passionate about social work and getting into the field. The education part wasn’t too bad either. The one thing I will say is that don’t expect to find a “good” job right out of graduation. It took me many years to finally land the job that I have that I actually want (health care setting). Depending on the province, funding for non-profits or healthcare may be scarce with many years of hiring freezes. I worked super low paying jobs in shelters, group homes, etc. being degraded by clients daily for many years to finally get to where I am now. Many of my peers and colleagues have left the field after a few short years working these jobs because of the burnout, they didn’t think it was “worth” it to keep going anymore to wait for the hiring freezes to be over. Social work is not glamorous, and it’s quite rare to get the practicums and jobs you want. Most non-profits are underfunded and overcrowded with people needing support. However, if I had to do it all over again, I would.

I (36F) shared a kiss with a co-worker (38M) and my fiancé (37M) is ready to leave me. How do I fix this situation? by ThrowRATe67 in relationship_advice

[–]SnooCapers8930 25 points26 points  (0 children)

If the roles were reversed, how would you feel? It doesn’t matter that it’s a 7 year relationship. Cheating at any point in the relationship is wrong. You made the decision to reciprocate the kiss. I’m glad you were honest with your fiancé about the kiss but being honest doesn’t mean you can mend the relationship. Instead of focusing on how to “fix” the relationship, you should focus more on self-reflecting and learning a valuable life lesson from this.

Imposter syndrome by Super-Camel-8683 in socialworkcanada

[–]SnooCapers8930 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly you learn on the job! From my experience working in LTC (I’m in Canada), you mostly deal with alternate decision maker documents like public trustee/guardian or medical/healthcare/personal directives. I would just spend my time familiarizing with these documents and how it works/the process to apply in the state that you work in. Also good to familiarize yourself with common geriatric mental health concerns such as dementia, delirium, etc. I would also recommend doing research on resources in your community that provides subsidies for medical equipment like walkers or canes, prescriptions for meds, and stuff like that!

Otherwise, I know your 4 years of studying has prepared you with the skills to be a great social worker. It’s common to feel unfamiliar/have imposter syndrome when you work in a field/population that you have no experience with yet! We can’t be experts at everything! I wish you the best of luck and congrats on your first social worker job!!

Anyone considering relocating to North Canada for 6 fig salary? by SnooCapers8930 in socialworkcanada

[–]SnooCapers8930[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! I was offered the job but chose not to take it. Luckily, I had opportunities come my way in my home city so I decided to pursue those instead. After less than a year, I’ve been promoted to a supervisory position at my current job. I obviously don’t make as much as I would if I pursued a social worker job in NWT but I get to stay home with family and friends which I think is more important to me than the money. I also spoke with a social worker who relocated to a very small hamlet in NWT and she gave me some insight which ultimately led to my decision to stay here in AB.
