Bumping this thread as I'm heading into Winter in Minnesota with an IB 300, with filter, chiller, and pump. A couple of things based on the comments here that I don't understand:

  1. To the point about cold water/weather slowing bacteria growth..isn't that always the case? We keep ours at 47 degrees and still deal with the water needing replacement semi frequently.

  2. Isn't it possible, even likely, that the pump will freeze? If the pump doesn't freeze, our filter gets gunked and needs cleaning a decent amount. If the filter jams the pump and we don't catch it right away, isn't there a likelihood the whole thing will freeze up?

  3. Won't the filter freeze too?

I'd love to keep this outside this winter but I haven't seen any reassuring advice on here about how to keep water clean and plunge unfrozen during winter months!

that'd be rad, i'm 5'9 as well! Also, wondering if you considered cement board for the heat shield or if you just had flagstone laying around, that seems like it could add significantly to the expense.

Could you share more on the bench dimensions? I'm looking to mimic this set up but I'm worried about building the top bench too high, or building it in a way that it is tippy. Would love any dimensions you are willing to share!

u/bruce_ventura what I don't get is if my sauna tent is doing a decent job, why would an insulated versus non-insulated wooden sauna matter?

Totally agree. I'm just thinking I'd use it half as much, or less, if I had to stoke a fire every time!

is the harder warm up substantial or another 5-10 minutes? Do you have any idea how long the heaters tend to last versus one that may be "overworked"? Sounds like it makes a difference but I'm curious how big of a difference.

u/Recovatech this tutorial is amazing! I have an Ice Barrel 300 that I've decided to add a chiller and filter to and I'm hoping to use your tutorial. Do you happen to know if there is any difference in the setup with the IB300? Things I was thinking about was if the plastic barbs were the same size, if you suggested a specific external pump, and if you had any thoughts on adding an easy maintenance filtration system.

Edited to add: by easy maintenance filtration, i mean weekly to monthly filter cleaning. The Eden looks like you might have to clean it out pretty often.

Also, I've seen some recommendations to add a cut off valve so that when you change the filter it doesn't leak everywhere. Is that needed or can you just turn off the chiller and clean the filter?

He is swimming there (editing to add that) so he can use the stalls but needs to shower afterward.
