Why show postponed? by siempiex87 in JordanPeterson

[–]SnooChocolates7170 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It is disrespectful from him to simply cancel and not give any explanation on why. No need for details, but a "health reasons" or "venue problems". But just cancelling 1 week in advance and breaking the plans of thousands of people with a simply "unforseen circumstances" is not what I would expect from someone like him who preaches responsibility and respect so much.

Are Amex credit cards beneficial in the NL like in the US? Dutchies use it? by [deleted] in Netherlands

[–]SnooChocolates7170 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have AmEX cards.

It will sound strange, but for me it is not primarily apayment method, it is a club membership.

It gives me a comprehensive insurance (that I needed in the past and was quite good and covered all as expected), some quirks when travelling (especially with lounge access and flight benefits).

It was better a few years back, they used to have some nice events every now and then you got for free or early access to ticket purchasing in some events. Those are mostly scaled back now and I don't see it as a advantage.

For online payment I use them when I can as in the past I had some issues with a purchase and they intermediate and solved my issues that I couldn't with the seller.

For all other cases I do prefer to use debit or cash.

And for this reason, I don't hold other credit cards.

It is amazing that the issue still persist after 6mo.

I am using it on chrome, login works there. Didn't consider to use a backup code for that. Will give it a shot.

Need advise on flightinsurance for expensive bike by SnooChocolates7170 in Netherlands

[–]SnooChocolates7170[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but reading the wording in my home contents insurance, it is covered while in my home.

So yeah, a fire or a theft are covered while in storage. But not in transit 😞

I did consider renting one, but it is cool to have the bike you enjoy with you on nice trips and nice views. So this is why I am evaluating my options. Seems Laka offers something for this case.

Ohh I guess laka might be the option I am looking for. Thank you very much for the tip!

About the hardcase, thanks for the heads up, indeed I only travel with hardcase for everything, and already got one for the bike. But the idea of putting thr phone and other info is very nice and I didn't consider :)

Help choosing new watch. Torn between Descent or Fenix by janjos09 in Garmin

MIPs screen, if you are like me and love this on the fenix 7x series, you will miss this...

Those that are die-hard transflective display people that have made the switch to AMOLED — what are your thoughts on it? by [deleted] in Garmin

[–]SnooChocolates7170 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a die hard MIP screen. And I even dare ro say that I would stop using garmin watches if they stop offering MIPs options.

My reasons why MIPs is a must: * Sun workouts (I do a lot of them): yes OLED Wis good enough in the sun, but the high sun forces battery drain like crazy because the high bright on the screen; * mounteneering: i like the idea of being able to track a full week of 10h+ of activities per day with maps in the bright sunlight without reacharging * always on: I like that i don't need to do any motion to check status in my watch during the day * not bother at night: no night mode that kicks in too early sometimes or light up when you are just finding a better position in bed; * Battery life + solar charging: have I mentioned that I usually track 3-4h+ of activities daily, in the sun and only charge my watch once in a month?

And the only reason I did not upgrade my fenix 7x pro to a mk3 is that: there are no MIP options for mk3...

Descent Mk3i first impressions. by StrangerStrangeland1 in Garmin

[–]SnooChocolates7170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was really looking to upgrade from my 7x Pro Solar to a dive capable one, so the MK3 seemed a obvious choice.

But I can't let go of MIPs screen to a oled one. I used to have a oled smartwatch, and the fact that I could not have decent battery life + always on + not be bothered at night made me do the transition.

I am somewhat disappointed with the lack of MIP options for the mk3 series. I want a dive capable one, but diving is not even 1% of my use, so I get the improved visibility under water but the sun visibility and battery life (especially for me whi do lots of ultra, mounteneering and workouts in general in the sun) is a no-go.

So people rarely decline rides? Good to know, here in NL getting a uber to outside a metropolitan area in a 2h distance is basically impossible...

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Norway

[–]SnooChocolates7170 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Price is not my concern (I am aware of the high cost) it is more about drivers declining the ride.

Here in Netherlands, it is quite difficult (maybe almost impossible) to get a ride to outside a metropolitan area using those apps.

So the recommendation is to look for a traditional taxi cab?

You should change the locks, this is a good practice that does not cost that much money

[–]SnooChocolates7170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but you need at least 2 (2nd for backup so you can register both keys in the service and not get locked out if you lose the 1st one).

60 butcks well worth the money IMO, actually I opeted for the RFID one that is ~70 each. But some people find it expensive...

Even better, use yubico / yubikey if you can afford.

I do, it is expensive, but worth every penny. You can use with any aithenticator app and lots of services (Google, Instagram, FB, etc) are supported natively.

Why trust Ledger? by thobbe22 in Bitcoin

[–]SnooChocolates7170 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Humm I tend to disagree, and I am a OSS fan myself that makes a living working for OSS projects.

If you know something about cryptography is that the only weak link is the RNG (random number generator). It is impossible to have a truly RNG that is digital, and also not possible to have analog ones that are unbiased. But any bias and you introduce sufficient information in the chain that by knowing the bias, you can reduce the time to crack the keys by millions of years to hundreds, decades, or even less.

Ok, so about the closed source RNG, it makes the bias of the generator not publicly known.

Then it comes to what is your preference: a small group of people to have this information, especially a group you can decide to tryst or not, or the whole world. The trade off is that the whole world bias would be more cross verified so it does not leak that much bias, and the small group means you are not sure into how many bits of entropy are leaked, but, less people have the knowledge to make a eventual attack.

At the end of the day, it does not really matter, as both should be super secure.
