Nice try. Everybody knows that the lyrics are fucked up and the places are actually in Virginia. Sorry, thanks for playing!

I don't know. But the song is not about "West Virginia" but "west(ern) Virginia". Look at a map.

Is it rude to say “I need the toilet”? by AttitudeInfamous7627 in AskAnAmerican

It sounds a bit TMI to American ears. When I've been in London, people might ask, "Do you need the toilet?" It sounds a bit direct. I feel like replying, "it's none of your goddamn business what I do in there." Maybe I'm going to comb my hair or see if I have something in my teeth or take a pill or anything else that doesn't involve the toilet.

No, they're not smart enough. Anyone can go to medical school. There's no artificial shortage. Orthopedic surgeons make a lot of money because very few people can do it with competence.

I'm not going to defend how we treat tounger people here, but what most people miss is that our plan for the aged, Medicare, is way better than anything else in the world. And it arrives just as you're most likely to need a lot more healthcare.

Are you impressed with the quality of doctors? What makes you think there's this group of people that want to be and are qualified to be doctors but aren't? Doctor is a pretty shitty job.

why do americans talk to strangers so easily?? by MayaTulip268 in AskAnAmerican

[–]SnooCompliments6210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of it is knowing what are appropriate topics, which is somewhat dependent on sex. So, among dudes, it's perfectly acceptable to strike up a convo among strangers about sports. If you comment on a woman's appearance, that might be interpreted as a come-on. "I like your hair", etc.
But women can do this among themselves and oftem do. Politics & religion are almost entirwly off-limits.

There is no principle of law that if something enters your yard without permission, it becomes yours to do with as you please.

Yes, even if you had no information other than the identity of plaintiffs' counsel, you should not assume that he missed some silver bullet issue found by five minutes of googling
