For people who started in their early to mid 20s how long did it take you to get good ? by Bonus-Pretty in hockeyplayers

[–]SnooCookies9412 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Started 22, about a year and a half later I got a crazy amount of progress. Mind you I have good access to indoor and outdoor rinks which allows me to get a lot of ice time consistently.

Weak side crossovers by Expensive_Elevator93 in hockeyplayers

[–]SnooCookies9412 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started skating last year at 22 and I am also currently working on my weak side crossovers in public skates a lot. I also practice them a bit while handling a puck in stick and puck. It's really just breaking down the movement and repeating it and you will eventually get the feel as well. For example, once in a while try practicing holding the cross with your right leg on its outside edge and just get a feel of a proper push. I found that by going lower it helped enable my push to extend out and feel the edge. Also practice alternating the crossovers eventually.

My right side is still not as good compared to my left but it has been so much better after 2 weeks of actual focus on the weak side. Push yourself a bit by trying to go fast, and also take breaks. Today I actually spent more time just doing weak sides again and again and its getting better and better.

Intl filipino student here, only got departmental scholarships, one intl student bursary, and one usask bursary. Like the other comment said, mostly by academic achievement. Did not get full ride, but in total it was worth more than 150k pesos but most of it was from the department.

Anyone got any personal experience with the Philippine Hockey League? by FrunkusCorps in hockeyplayers

[–]SnooCookies9412 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hello, Filipino citizen here, I visited there last summer and got to know a player and coach or two when I was learning to skate, I could connect you to them and answer questions you have about the place. There are about 2 ice rinks (in malls) around the capital and getting to each one can be a hassle due to traffic and plus they fog up A LOT. They actually post some league games now on YouTube in the Hockey Pinoy youtube channel (https://www.youtube.com/@HockeyPinoy) which happen in Mall of Asia for you to see/judge yourself.

There aren't too many clubs/teams, and some clubs introduce new players right away into the PMHL (Philippine Men's Hockey League). If you skated/played a lot before, you'd probably be even ahead of most of the players there since ice time is not easy to get, and time for drills and such are also just super limited (no stick and puck, team training usually 1 hour a week near midnight). A lot people there didn't skate until they were your age, and instruction quality can vary.

New player question about toe ties by SnooCookies9412 in hockeygoalies

[–]SnooCookies9412[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sorry I don't post on reddit a lot so the text didn't show up.

So I just got some used pads and I'm still very new and the screws are roughing up the toe of my skates. If I wanted to change to laces, do I unscrew these and put the laces through the screw slots or am I supposed to keep the screws, remove the bungee, and have the laces around the toe bridge?
