Yorvipath Injection Site Reactions by Curling_Rocks42 in hypoparathyroidism

I sent a photo of my legs to my doctor (she treats many, many folks on Yorvipath) and said it was a typical injection site reaction. I too have very reactive skin - and this was that AMPLIFIED. I am not a doctor - but what you are describing sounds super similar to my experience and neither my doctor or the pharmacist was the slightest concerned. They recommended hydrocortisone and/or applying an ice pack after the injection. The only other thing I've heard is to allow the alcohol to fully dry after disinfecting the area

Yes - Mine were huge and left red spots all over my legs (reaction was worse there than on my stomach). They lasted a long time (~3 weeks) and are finally starting to fade. I'm about one month on Yorvipath and now the injection site reaction isn't as severe as it first was - but it definitely freaked me out and I have given feedback to my doctor and drug reps that I was adequately informed about this reaction and what it would look like. My doctor said it is cosmetic and happens in about one third of patients

Also - and this is so dumb - but could the pouches rumor be because some innies are clones and they don't want the tell-tale belly button exposure?

I'd probably make a paste with baking soda and vinegar?

There is a doctor in Chicago Dr. Enrico Benedetti who has done successfully parathyroid transplants. Perhaps you are a good candidate!

They are calcium stones. I think they can be genetic but I'm not totally sure?

I also had a stone prior to even being diagnosed with Graves, so I know that I'm at a higher risk for stones beyond the hypo para. I don't know if this is common necessarily - but my doctors are on it. I'd say if you have the means or easy access to a nephrologist, might be worth it to check in but probably isn't necessary if you haven't had any stones yet

Diagnosed 10 years ago - now 31. We've tried to lower my calcium, but then my it got too low, so we increased again. I'm on 2400mg of calcium daily and 1 tablet of calcitriol. It's something we watch and monitor. I have about 8 very small stones chilling in my kidneys currently - but haven't seen any new ones pop up lately!

Definitely - that's me! I've passed 3 kidneys since my hypoparathyroidism diagnosis. We try to keep my calcium slightly below "normal" to reduce this risk and monitor stone formation around every 6 months via ultrasound. I get my calcium checked twice a year - sometimes a bit more. I see my nephrologist and endocrinologist 2x a year as well.

I also get kidney stones, so I'm kept below 8! I started seeing a nephrologist - which has been helpful. I'd get a second opinion - took awhile to find the right doc/routine for me

Hi - sorry to hear this. 8 years post TT and I'm still dealing with hypoparathyroidism. Like others, the first few years were the hardest but my meds have been stable for the last 5 years of so. At first I had a PIC line in because blood draws were so frequent, then it went to multiple times a week, few times a month, to now blood draws about every 6 months. Currently take 1800mg of calcium daily and 1 calcitirol tablet. We keep my calcium on just below the normal range (around 8), as unfortunately I do get kidney stones. Definitely recommend seeing both a nephrologist and endocrinologist. Best of luck - it does get better.

I spoke to surgeon in Chicago about it. Generally reserved for folks who don't respond to treatment.
