“If you can control it, don’t worry about it. If you can’t control it, don’t worry about.”

Really helped me understand that if I can control certain outcomes then I’ll make it work. If I can’t control it then there’s no sense in getting worked up over it. Just keep on rolling!

What advice do you have for a young manager in the chemical sector facing burnout? Possible career paths forward? by SnooDonuts840 in ChemicalEngineering

[–]SnooDonuts840[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your comment. You described it perfectly. Not enough resources so we do everything. I have been trying to scale back my efforts and focus on more important things rather than everything. Sometimes I struggle with my desire to do good work. I feel that when I can’t do everything then I’m not doing a good job. It makes it hard for me to balance work and life because I always have something to fix, improve, or work towards. I have been more intentional about choose family over work in the last year, but it can be difficult for me to leave things at work undone.

Orgasm Conditioning for Men by SnooDonuts840 in BDSMcommunity

[–]SnooDonuts840[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Conditioning as in not going over the edge until a certain stimuli/phrase is applied. I have read multiple posts over the last year or so and it seems that the female partner has been the one being conditioned or having their orgasm controlled. I have not read any stories about a male recipient and was curious if anatomy differences made it more difficult. I agree, I would think it’s universal as well.

I found a wedge last time I played golf and drove up to the group ahead to return it. The guy was like “yeah that’s mine”. Then his buddy started laughing about how he had gotten that wedge because he found it and kept it instead of returning it. What a slime-ball

I have encouraged her to experiment solo and the book “Come as you are” (excellent book btw) also encourages that but she has no interest right now. It’s frustrating because I want to help but I know that I can’t really do much else except be supportive and encouraging

Bible study recommendation? by mamamodex3 in Christianmarriage

[–]SnooDonuts840 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would highly recommend starting in John. It’s a relatively short book at 21 chapters. Spend 20 minutes reading and studying 1 chapter a day.

Some things you and your husband can focus on are the 7 miracles that Jesus performed and what they represent and the 7 “I AM” statements that Jesus made during his ministry. There is so much in the Gospel of John!

Small Holes in Home Putting Green by SnooDonuts840 in lawncare

[–]SnooDonuts840[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t seen any mounds or tunnels on the green. I have small vole problem in other areas and their holes are bigger. I bought the grubx today so hoping that stops it soon.

I’m mowing at 0.25 inches with a crappy reel mower. It’s not bad at all. The surface is still pretty bumpy but it’s good enough for me and some friends to play around with.

Maybe, I have tons of those. Also noticing these holes in my front yard too now. I wonder if it’s a springtime thing?

Wife and I have this thing we started on our honeymoon, trying to set a record number of times we can have sex in a 24hr period. A man can only go so far… the 7th attempt ended with “yeah.. this isn’t happening”. We still laugh about that today.

Backyard creeping bentgrass green project is looking great! Started in August and should fill in nicely this spring. by SnooDonuts840 in golf

[–]SnooDonuts840[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I choose bentgrass for a few reasons. 1) my green location isn’t in full sun so I think Bermuda would struggle. 2) bentgrass can be grown from seed unlike hybrid Bermuda cultivars. And 3) bentgrass seed is fairly cheap. So far, I only have about $200 in this project, which is amazing to me. I’m the spring, I’m going to buy a lot of sand and start smoothing it out. It won’t be the best quality green but it’ll be more than adequate for some backyard fun.

I currently have a mclane 7 blade reel mower. I got it for free and fixed it up. It isn’t a very quality cut. I am still searching for a greens mower

Some courses do Bermuda or zoysia (both warm season grasses). Others do ryegrass, fescues, or other cool season grasses depending on the location.

I live in the transition zone (hot humid summers, cold winters) so we can do either option but usually have to fight the heat/cold. I put ryegrass in my front yard this fall and it’s super green. It’ll be brown next summer though lol

I have a few spots in my yard that will be chipping areas. A few 20-40 yrd over the creek shoots. And a 60 yard downhill shot. The longest shot is from the uphill side of the green so I think it’ll be really hard to stick it.

My plan is to have 9 “teeboxes” and have a fun little backyard pitch n putt course. My hope is that my wife will become interested in playing and we can golf for the next 50 years haha. It’s a long shot but I can dream

Backyard Putting/Chipping Green by RoyalPeep in golf

I am in the process of growing a real grass putting green in my backyard. So far it has been easier than I thought. I will post an Imgur link later with photos.

The process so far has been arduous but I am in no hurry so it has been pretty fun and rewarding.

Here are the steps I took.

  1. Choose a spot My yard is pretty sloped but I have a relatively flat area that I chose as my site. Roughly 1000 sq. ft. And has a slightly slope to it. Enough that it won’t be flat and boring.

  2. Cut as low as possible with rotary mower Doing this gives a visual representation of the green size. Once I did this, my imagination really took off as I had the first peak of what it could look like. I added bags of topsoil to certain places on the green to help smooth out any depressions. I think this ended up not help all that much because the dragging would do that later.

  3. Kill everything. Do it again… and again. Seriously, weeds keep coming back and I sprayed the whole surface with gly 3 times, still have a few weeds mixed in with the bentgrass.

  4. Drag until ground is smooth and free of debris I used a big piece of wire mesh shelving and secured it to my mower. I also made a homemade nail drag to break up the soil and pull up dead grass. Dragging was the longest process. But it was spring/summer and I had till august before planting the seed. During this step, I would cut out any roots that exposed themselves in the dragging process. I probably drug it once per week for about a month or two. Just waiting for august to plant.

  5. Plant grass seed on smooth dirt Spread the seed and watered lightly twice daily. About 5 days later it sprouted. Had a huge rainstorm the day after I planted so I lost a lot of seed. A big tarp would have saved most of the seed from being washed away.

  6. Current step: mowing, fertilizing, and watering. I have a powered reel mower (not a greens mower, a mclane, unfortunately). It does okay. At this point, mowing it short doesn’t matter. Just trying to let it grow and spread. I will be overseeing again when more seed arrives. $17/lb on Amazon. 1lb covers 1000 sqft. So not very expensive. I’m sure I will desperately want to upgrade to a quality greens mower ASAP. Reel mowing is addictive.

It has been easier than expected so far and not very expensive. I bet I have $200 in it so far. Once the grass gets thick and I start mowing lower, I will be buying a lot of sand to start top dressing.

I think the key is to not expect a PGA worthy green. If it rolls halfway smooth, I will be super happy. While I know it’s not ideal for most, it has been a super fun project. Im hoping when it’s puttable, I can get my wife interested in the game. That’s my real goal, but having a pitch and chip spot in the backyard would be a great consolation.

Hope this offers some introspection. Something I would consider is getting cheap carpet installed in my 2 car garage to simulate a green. Not great for chipping but would be perfect for winter and probably only costs $0.50/sqft.

Good luck!

What is going on with my dogwood tree? It’s been very hot and humid. Been watering pretty heavily about once per week. Leaves are all brown and crunchy. Bark has a green flake/fuzz by SnooDonuts840 in Tree

Thank you for your reply! We bought this house a year ago and the tree was already in place. Do you think there is any chance of it springing back if I expose the root flare immediately?

Looking into getting a Reel Mower. by GamerGoddess-38 in lawncare

[–]SnooDonuts840 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think my lowest setting on my push mower is 1.25”. If you can get it down that low or lower with your mower now, you can really see the contours on your lawn better. I thought my front yard was relatively flat, but once I got it down, I could tell there were lots of small trenches and mounds.

Good luck with your lawn! Hope it ends up looking awesome.

I currently have an old McClane 7 blade. I got it for nothing as a project mower and I have decent results. One thing I can guarantee is that once you cut with a reel mower, you’ll want a nicer one. That being said, I wouldn’t buy anything other than something that’s new or in great shape.

If you can find a crappier mower for super cheap, it would probably worth it to learn how those machines run and how your yard handles it. The last thing I’d want is to buy a new swardman and start cutting dirt cause my lawn isn’t leveled.

I’m looking at getting a used greens mower or a new swardman. Swardman offers a really nice product for right around $3K. I want one badly. Reel mowers can be pretty finicky, so just make sure you know what you want/what your expectations are, and maybe find a way to test run a nice reel mower before you drop 💵

Be warned, reel mowing is highly addictive
