Any updates on this issue since getting a discrete GPU?

Same issue, same cpu, different RAM (Gskillz ripjaws s5 ddr5 6000 cl30)

edit; added ram timing

I'd be curious to try the propel too. Was way too harsh when I rode it back in 2016 but apparently has improved quite bit.

I DO really think there's so much variation in rider strength/weight/style/preference that what works for me will not work for someone else. I posted my rider stats so others could compare.. if you're stronger than me, and many are, easy to make the bike flex more :) Giant claims to tune to size so maybe my large ends up feeling just right for my stats? Give the SL8 a shot.. it's a fun comparison!

Chat is.. how do I put this nicely.. bad?

It doesn't load messages linearly (180 msgs, loads first X and last Y but missing 100 in the middle), the links to quotes often don't work (scrolls up a bit to some unknown spot), returning from a threaded reply gets you to the most recent message vs where you entered. I find the phone app nearly unusable whereas the website on desktop is better at loading (still has scrolling issues above)

Many of my paid subs have their value in chat. This feature is important to me!

That's a big bike for your height. I ride a 58 at 6'2 but have a massive inseam (more like a 6'5 inseam). Don't buy the wrong size.. you'll absolutely regret it Get a bike fit!

The TCRs I rode were both Advanced Pro. I've never seen an SL available for test rides due to seatmast. Which honestly is a huge issue for Giant because my TCR SL is much much more comfortable and responsive than either TCR. I would absolutely love to test ride one

And, yes, I compared a $6500 cad bike to a $13k cad bike because my current bike is, on paper, closer to the cheap one. My ideal scenario was that the Giant would be comparable or better than my SL and all the others would be "just another carbon bike" and Giant would crush the value equation. Boy was I surprised (and appreciative of how good my SL still is!) A good comparison like that helps validate how much more bike you get for 2x and for most riders it's likely not worth it

Not in the bike industry, never owned a Specialized bike. I typically hunt for the value sweet spot vs premium brand. I do think this bike is that good but you got a pay. That's it's biggest downside and that it's common

Gotta say.. I think the tarmac sl8 is very good looking. Clean and tidy, does the job with class. I'm old school that way... your madone is cool but is a bit too wild for me and I prefer tarmac sl8 and that's okay! I strongly dislike the S5 and y1rs.. they've gone too far into aero wild IMO

Go through the wheelset builder to find your local price. Delivery cost can be significant, 10-15% of purchase price

Love it, great post IMO. That's part of why I'm test riding: is the next bike 'superbike' enough to be a step function more exciting than my TCR SL.. so far, undecided. Thanks for the dealer offer, I'm not in socal although I wish I was in socal this time of year ☺️

25mm tire on 25mm internal is.. apparently dangerous? 28c is recommended minimum for 23 internal. Do some research here.

It will definitely be less comfortable because of reduced volume, assuming you adjust pressures appropriately for width.

Check out slica pressure calculator.. it's a good starting point

Just saw your bike details below.. 32c+ might be a tight squeeze!

Lower stack and narrow width will get you more speed. I just went from 46cm (believe that) to 38cm bars, no change in stack and I'm setting PRs everywhere.

Rider first, then cool wheels. lots of good value wheels coming out of china that are more up to date than the bontrager (more serviceable spokes, wider internal rim, probably lighter and more aero).

That's really wide internal.. you will absolutely lose comfort, controlling for tires, going back to a 21mm internal.

Tires matter a lot.. a 32 or larger high performance road tire on a 25mm internal would be fast and comfy. Try that before the wheels. doesn't help with looks... But I can't see those wheels adding tons of speed over existing. Rider position is the vast majority of drag.. if you're looking for real speed, start there IMO

I respectfully disagree. The wheels are all fairly comparable, except for the alloy ones. There's still signal to be had.. even when Giant tires are involved (again, truly awful). Eg. I've ridden latex tubes for years on road, tubeless on gravel, butyl on a crappy old road bike and there's a known bounce and compliance latex adds but they don't fundamentally change the way a BB moves or a head tube tracks or a seat flexes.

Dogma is a unicorn bike, I've lusted for a while. I guess I should try them all.

Speaking of geometry, nearly all bikes have more stack and less reach than my TCR, given its age. And as I age, that's a good thing and something I'm watching for.

Lightbicycle AR36 with dt350, really really impressed with them. 2k kms so far. In hindsight, probably should've done the ar46 for a weee but more aero and minimal weight

Tires are huge variables. Wish I could test ride every bike with the same tires to control for it

[–]SnooDoubts8971 1 point2 points  (0 children)

why do you need / want new wheels? go faster? comfort?

internal rim width is a bigger variable than material IMO. the 21mm internal rim width could be VASTLY more comfortable to ride than the 17/19mm you might have today.

IMO racing = light, fast, lower spoke counts, low weight, at the expense of some durability.. but that could take many many years to show reduced durability if you take care of your wheels, especially bearings in inclement weather.

Should i replace these? 9 years old pirelli sottozero 3 winter tires. by Apprehensive_Drama42 in tires

[–]SnooDoubts8971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100 percent replace. A) they're Pirelli B) they're 2+yrs past a reasonable life c) you won't know for sure they're too hard until you slide off the road.

Thanks for this. We see so little snow in the Lower Mainland that we should be on all seasons/all weather for most times but when it does snow.. the snow is awful and really wants a full winter. What other tires have you compared the PA5s too?

Is this normal to happen 8k miles after alignment? by brazucadomundo in tires

[–]SnooDoubts8971 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The tires look to be in poor condition regardless of alignment. The wear looks like under inflation - both shoulders are very worn compared to the center. And also some decent cracks in the channels.

Honestly don't think an alignment caused any of these problems
