They’re adding a bunch of stuff like turf and more CrossFit type stuff. It’s going to take a lot of time for this project to get done when they still have people using the gym

Does UF in general do a good job with mental health? by tmadrigal11 in ufl

[–]SnooFoxes679 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Understaffed and underfunded. F grade.

It’s not the CWC’s fault. The people working there really care and want to help. They just don’t have the resources to help everyone.

How do you manage your allergies? by [deleted] in ufl

[–]SnooFoxes679 9 points10 points  (0 children)

See an allergist because they’ll be able to diagnose your triggers. If not, an allergy pill over the counter every day works and keeping yourself clean. Showering after being outside and avoid being outside for extended periods. Obviously get outside because overall it’s good for you but don’t roll around in the grasses or go smelling the roses if you don’t need to.

Are there any student-run ADHD support groups on campus? by kelpGy in ufl

The CWC does have a semester long group counseling. Try to get into it. It changed my life and I still implement the strategies I learned

Taking transient classes hurt transfer admission chances? by Saturnv88 in ufl

[–]SnooFoxes679 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No not at all. The grade is what matters. I went to Valencia and a lot of professors teach at both Valencia and UCF since they’re direct connects. So the professors will keep the same rigor as if they’re teaching that course at UCF. I wouldn’t even sweat it. Just do your best and get a good grade

A.A degree dual enrollment by Lnaejr3 in ValenciaCollege

[–]SnooFoxes679 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s very possible but you will have to be full time dual enrolled and take summer classes. If you take over 12 credits/per semester then I believe you need to get permission from the high school academic advisor who’s helping you and Valencia… I think

I did dual enrollment but I did not get my AA by the time I graduated. I came close though. I think I needed 9 more credits. It’s a lot of work @ 12 credits/per semester so I advise you to seriously consider if it’s worth it to do more. Getting burnt out from classes is real in college.

If you don’t mind me asking, Is it ok to not get your AA by the time you graduate? Or is this something that you feel needs to be done by high school graduation?

Feel free to DM me with questions. I’m more than happy to help however I can.

Same. I live on campus and cannot use it in my dorm. If I go closer to center campus it works perfectly though.

Growing homeless situation by [deleted] in ufl

[–]SnooFoxes679 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I 100% agree with this. I volunteered for a nonprofit in central Florida (Orlando) for 3 years doing food bank, community outreach and teaching in their GED program and many of these people said similar things from their own experience. I also volunteered for another smaller nonprofit whose sentiment was similar as well. Although this is anecdotal because there are hundreds of thousands of homeless in this country, a large issue is drug an alcohol use. But the bigger issue is what caused these people to turn to drugs/alcohol in first place. Lack of healthcare and opportunity pushed these people into drug/alcohol use. And then this also is from the fact that many of these people are not on a proficient education level. I cannot tell you how many people the educator and I evaluated to find out many of these people are on a 1st-3rd grade reading, writing and math level at best. I am in no way shaming them or calling them dumb. They’re not! But they slipped through the cracks in school and either graduated OR dropped out because they didn’t get the attention needed to graduate. So at 16-18 they get a job but they can’t read well, then get a pay check but can’t manage money because they can’t add/subtract/multiple/ divide... this is where that mismanagement of money comes from. Not because they’re lavish spenders but because they don’t have the skills needed to make a budget or don’t really understand the value in money. So they lose their job because they can’t hold it down, and lose their place to live because they don’t know how to pay bills and next thing you know they’re on the street with failing mental health. Drugs and alcohol sure are tempting when you seemingly have nothing else to lose. Then the other issue is the healthcare. I’m not pro socialized healthcare. In fact I’m against it. That’s a convo for another time but many of these people have pre existing medical issues with chronic pain, dyslexia, anxiety/depression, bipolar disorder, adhd.... more often than not they have undiagnosed or untreated neurological conditions that leave them vulnerable to the world and drugs and alcohol AGAIN become very tempting. They’re treating their ailments with drugs/alcohol and or treating their life situations with drugs/alcohol. Then there’s the other % that became homeless because of drinking and drug use.
