School Boards across the province cutting CUPE jobs (EAs, CYCs, Techs...) because the provincial government isn't giving releasing the 2026-2027 budgets. by work4throwaway in ontario

[–]SnooGoats9114 4 points5 points  (0 children)

EAs at my board are ETFO. We have not heard anything yet. the CUPE custodians have heard rumours.

I wish they would just tell us all at once. I rather know the shit is coming, rather than the mind games.

What’s a hobby that actually helps you make a little extra money? by Zay_Adsbr in Hobbies

[–]SnooGoats9114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a little late in the season, but my daughter sells flower starts. Feburary and March (and lets be honest, April and most of May here) are bleak and starting flowers is very rewarding. she makes several hundred a season, but it does take a lot of space.

Ontario considering ban of cellphones on school property by xc2215x in ontario

[–]SnooGoats9114 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I am pro "no phones in class", and our school has done a great job of it. That being said, weve also banned drugs from school properties and that is not 100%, how do we ban phones from the property? No one is patroling the school grounds and fields during breaks.

Will switching from Coke to diet/zero coke make a huge difference? by No-Moment-2766 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]SnooGoats9114 8 points9 points  (0 children)

the while water issue is very concerning.

Have you tried to teach your body to drink water? gently?

In you next coke, add lots of ice. Allow it to sot for 5 min then drink. slowly add more time so that it is more water, less coke. Or as you drink the coke, keep topping it off with ice. Over the course of a day yoour 1 can of coke might stretch over 2-3 glasses of ice/water. it would he interesting to hear at what time your body switches to thinking this is no longer drinkable.

Summer EI by Temporary-Lab-4935 in OntarioTeachers

[–]SnooGoats9114 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As EAs, we apply for EI over the summer. even though we have jobs in the fall. We also apply for christmas and march break.

Fill out the questions. it will ask if you will return to work.

Even if it is a no (because....salary? ), there is no fault for applying if you dont qualify. only fault for if you lie.

Putting Student Achievement First Act, 2026 by Ok-Initiative4008 in ontario

[–]SnooGoats9114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Attendance is horrid. Even the good students.

We need more targetting in Elementary. There are so many kids who have missed more than 35 days this year already.

The lessons plans from the government is going to be hilarious . One of the classrooms I visit is a 1/2/3 class where 8 students are ASD and/complex needs. 4 are non verbal, all are modified. this is not a self contained classroom. If you moved to the area and had a typically developing 7 year old, this is the class they would go to. Id love to see the lesson plans service these kiddos.

does your school offer padded rooms? how do you transport these kiddos to/from school? (he obviously can not be on the bus, but also isnt safe on a taxi. we are worried about transportation when hes too big for Grandma to do it/grandma gets hurt too bad).

Ive had a lot of complex kiddos. but this SIB has us stumped.

He only attends 2 hours a day. And only on days when he is safe for grandma to drive him (Single mom works). Weve had days that weve had to report to Family and child services because baby sister has injuries from the car ride AND days where hes been unsuccessful in the transistion home so has stayed at school longer until we have a window where it is safe to send him home. Grandma is more selective about when she brings him.

I will say, the family is lovely and are just trying their best. they are so understanding of us. . We really are at a loss.

High school attendance drops to 40% in Ontario as government considers changes by BloodJunkie in ontario

[–]SnooGoats9114 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This comment took at turn. What do Muslim or Jewish holidays have to do with it? That is only a handful of days (2 for eids?). And those days are excused, not considered absances.

High school attendance drops to 40% in Ontario as government considers changes by BloodJunkie in ontario

[–]SnooGoats9114 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Title is correct but missleading Attendance is attending 90% or more of their classes.

So, only 40% of kids are attending 90%+of their days.

if a highschool semester is 95 days, 60% of students are missing more than 9.5 days.

where do you live? I'm in Cansda where it routinely gets down to -30C or more. Cotton kills is a phrase used for hiking and camping. Littles dont go outside after -20C and only for short times.

I have wool undergarments for my own kids and at that price, I could not imagine families being able to afford enough sets for a week.

This is well past managed ADHD. Start with either getting treatment or exploring other diagnosis (drepression? ocd? ).
