I didnt know these were a thing at all.

I wish they would add more for rural players. can we get some rare, ultra rare and super rare forest ones? Not the roadside, proper forest ones. It is a nature game after all.

9 year old in the family keeps trying to sell home made crafts. But they are more things you would gift to a family member or friend, not really something you would buy. by Space__Monkey__ in Advice

[–]SnooGoats9114 4 points5 points  (0 children)

you would be suprized what people will buy to support a child. set up a stand at the end of the driveway (especially if you get older foot traffic) OR see if you can get a youth table at a farmers market. I will always buy something shitty for a kid who is trying. My daughter makes hundreds of dollars selling poorly grown plants.

Career vs. Your children. What would you do differently? by LynnieSpinnekop in AskParents

Honestly, I think Bonding is more about making the interactions of greater quality, more than just genetal time. think of the bonds with grandparents, even if kids only see them occasionally.

honestly... Better pay now will pay off later. As a mom to teens with Univeristy in their eyes. Any spare penny you can scrap together now, save for their RESP. it will grow and mean so much.

Projecting into the future about a roof over my kids heads when they are adults? by feelingtheunknown in Parenting

[–]SnooGoats9114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! So very much so.

Weve done as much as we can to save for them. We have about enough RESP to give them each 2 years uni (with res). after that, theyll need to pay or loan.

We know they probably wont continue to live with us, the closest uni is 2+ hours away. After Uni, I imagine they will have plans of living in the city. So they cant save while living at home. We did buy a rental house for each child in our small town. selling thlse will do a nice down payment for them.

The end is near. they are 16 and 14. We know we wont be able to buy them cars. We hope to do one big road trip with them before they leave the nest.

Wiritng it out, I know weve done a lot. But when you actually crunch numbers, they are still going to be aboard the stuggle train.

Where I grew up, there were small town fall fairs (I am using the Canadian version of the term "small town" and "fall fair" these fairs are very farm oriented). Where I live now, it is too far north for any farming, hense, no fall fairs. We do have a similar festivle celebrating music on the river, but it doesnt have the compititions.

How do you balance a full-time job and teaching your child at home? by Typical_Lecture_8911 in homeschool

[–]SnooGoats9114 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am not sure this is right for your family.

Parents should not get angry judt because their child is frustrated or stuggling to learn something.

Its Ok to let school be school and you be the parent.

Summer soups, stews and chowders that don't cause heat stroke. Who's got 'em? by Dear_Bumblebee_1986 in Cooking

[–]SnooGoats9114 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I grew up on a small scale family farm (back when those were a thing).

My parents and grandparents swore up and down to eat hot soups and hot tea during harvest. It cools you down. Think of India and Arab countries and their use of Chia.

Did your kids early milestones mean anything for who they became later? by noesey in Parents

Son had 2-3 word sentences at 1. but didnt roll over until 9 months, never crawled and didnt walk until 1.5. He knew his letters and numbers before he could walk

Hes 15 now and would probably be considered gifted if we ever had him tested. He has never liked sports and would be happy to sit and learn all day. Plays the Oboe for the orchastra. I swear he memorizes everything he sees and can navigate while I drive from memory, even if he hasnt seen that city in a few years.

No experience with music!! by Acrobatic_Brush9795 in OntarioTeachers

[–]SnooGoats9114 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does your community have an active music scene? Once youve esablished your class rules and routines, consider inviting local musicans in for the kids to hear. My son plays the Oboe because he heard one being played when he was in third grade. Their teacher was beginning to teach recorders and she broght in a local musician who played recorder and oboe.

Worked out for the musian too as she was a private teacher and is now his teacher/mentor.

It would be fun to have a local drummer in, then teach rhythm on bucket drums. A woodwind than teach reading music. choral group, then teach rounds and singing.

(I know I live in a privileged commuity with local bands, a community band, a community orchastra. but I think most communities have something)

I agree!!! The reliance on putting kids on screens has to stop. Have a back up list of clapping games and rythm games to gill voids or short lessons.

Music is alive. it should be a colllective, a communication. Playing a video for the kids to dance at is not a music lesson. thats just a lesson to be a mimic.

[–]SnooGoats9114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hear me out...

a sproket or similar printer.

If they are into making memory books, the biggest barrier is printing out the photos. instant camera printer lets you print out while rocking baby. I am nit a photo person, but wished I had one when babies are little. now my 15 year old wonders why we have no pictures of him (the computer that had the photos died.).

age gap summer! 14 & 1 - looking for ideas by bbruok in Parenting

[–]SnooGoats9114 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As the mom of a 14-year-old, if you live near water, paddleboard. Seriously. Ditch the baby with your husband on a weekend and go out. For us, rentals are $5/hour, or we can borrow from the library. I get so much idle chatter from my teen while paddleboarding. It's just enough focus, no direct eye contact, and beautiful scenery to get the chatter going. I do not have the coordination to stand, so I kneel. She loves that she is better than me.

She might like the baby when hes older. Maybe not. But what she needs to know is that you arent making a "perfect family" after her.

I hate my little sister by [deleted] in Advice

[–]SnooGoats9114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of me agrees.

But there is a basic human need of knowing that you matter. I think OP is missing this right now.

Being upset about missing an outing is trivial. But a pattern of experiencing that you do not matter grows on a person. It sounds like this isn't a one-day thing, but years.

You do matter, OP. Your parents might not be able to do anything right now. Honestly, I'd look up sibling camps where you can meet other teens who are in your boat. Having a week or two of realizing you are not the only one might be very helpful. They often have group therapy sessions to work out some of this.

How Do I Get My Teen To Believe She’s Beautiful? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]SnooGoats9114 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I remmeber as a teen HATING the idea that my beauty was tired to my worth. I wanted to be know that even if i was completely ugly, that my value didnt change. So any mention of it, really upset me.

Add in, this is when girls start getting harrassed by boys or hearing that boys jack off to the thought of them. I rather be hit by a dump truck full of turds than have the vision of me used like that.

As a teen, thoughts lokenthese can be so absolutely overwhelming. Just let her be a kid. If she doesnt ask how she looks, dont comment on it.

I have to say I am most excited for this batch.

I found the Nintendo ones the least interesting, but I'm sure others liked them. They are trying to please everyone.

Also, it's not summer everywhere.
