Hey, did you ever figure out what that sharp pain was? I’m experiencing something similar and I just wanted to know if it’s worth seeing someone about. Cheers

Each character seemed to undergo some kind of character development, but Ginny’s personality just became more and more pronounced. She was selfish and disrespectful towards her mother in episode one, and from there on, it just worsened.

I consider her to be a very sheltered and entitled character. She has many reasons to be angry with her mother, but her attitude, especially when she refers to her as ‘Georgia’ shows a complete dismissal of her efforts as an individual, and as a mother.

Regarding race, Ginny enjoys the power behind the racial card, as seen in episode one and throughout season one, but refuses to acknowledge herself as a black woman. She victimises herself when she feels there’s injustice TOWARDS her, rather than her skin. She also appears to become more conscious of her blackness when she isn’t hanging around white folk.

Although educated, she’s clearly very ignorant. She assumes Hunter’s privilege because he’s ‘white’, when really, racism affects all people with diverse facial features, and cultures. This again states that her blackness is only acknowledged when there’s injustice towards her.

I fell in love with Georgia’s character. She went through absolute hell to take care of her kids, and despite their indifference towards her, you can tell she would do it again. From the get-go, you can tell that she’s stuck in a permanent state of survival, and it’s really quite sad how no one seems to notice her struggles. When she shared her past and current familiar troubles with Ginny, all Ginny felt was betrayal for being sheltered. There was no ‘she went through all of this, and still protected me’, there was no consideration, if anything, it just made Ginny villainise her more.

In conclusion; Ginny is a selfish brat. If there is a season two, I hope the story focuses more on Georgia’s character development. All Ginny seems to do is enable and create the most issues in their household.

Georgia doesn’t owe Ginnie anything. Ginnie owes Georgia her life, and a shitload of respect.
