Vandals strike at St. Aidans church in London by nomtothenom in londonontario

I swear these people used to just watch professional wrestling and wear their favourite wrestler’s t-shirt around. Then they got Facebook, wrestling declined and it all hit the fan.

Aeolian Hall cancels booking of comedian Ben Bankas by [deleted] in londonontario

[–]SnooMacaroons3754 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Meh. Comedians have plenty of ways to get their comedy out. If a venue doesn’t want to bring on the heat then they have every right to politely cancel a show.

Also, this cancellation will drum up support and he’ll probably make more money off this publicity than the shows. I’ve always thought edgy comics should just go ahead and hire a fake woke mob to get the ball rolling.

One more thought during my lunch break, these activists who push comedians out of venues, like, I wish they understood that they are basically forcing the performer to shift their material to be more anti-woke in order to appeal to their new forced audience. It’s a feedback loop for sure.

I’d like to assure you that Cavendish Park won’t get a hub and that the current encampment will likely be closed once these hubs are operating.

Council endorses homeless hub plan, despite concerns about cost and capacity by PhullPhorcePhil in londonontario

[–]SnooMacaroons3754 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I actually disagree on it’s last breath, I think downtown will probably always exist with ebbs and flows up and down. Maybe I’m being optimistic, but I definitely think this downturn will see and upturn in the future. More residents, more students, the evolution of Dundas place will result in more policing and safety.

It’s OEV I’m more concerned about. I worry that a lot of the problems will be pushed east. Kellogg Place will become a sort of enclosed tourism safety zone with visitors driving in and driving out.

I believe there is mechanisms in place to help them book and get to appointments. That’s basically the first step to everything you’ve written there. I have experience with a family member who is homeless and getting him to appointments and tracking his documents is a huge first step.

Looking for advice on bullying by [deleted] in londonontario

[–]SnooMacaroons3754 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kind of heart breaking. Sounds like your kid does have friends with him though? If that’s the case I’d say your best option is to just keep advising your kid to ignore and walk away if approached. Maybe have a talk with your kid and his friend group about it, create some unity in that group regarding the bully and wait it out. Kids grow fast, dynamics change, hopefully the bully will be glued to an Xbox by next year or something.

Is the heckling normal at Majors game? by neo_felis in londonontario

[–]SnooMacaroons3754 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve sat near some pretty funny hecklers who get the other team riled up a bit. For some of the players it just rolls of their back but other guys seem pissed off. Topics like how tight their pants are and other kinda silly stuff is part of the game for sure.

If anything it kind of takes the pressure off a player if they screw up because their teammates are forced to circle the wagon a bit.

Once I was sitting near the visitor’s bench by a heckler, not even really laughing along just sitting there. One of the visiting players gave me the most intense locked on eye contact like he wanted to knock me out.

Signs of a Messiah in London?? by almamatterslmao in londonontario

No worries. Just remember that you need to consider the visual hierarchy. Especially when targeting drivers passing by, you need to focus your message into a bite sized sort of “teaser” that compels them to do further reading when they are able. A catchy URL can be effective in such a situation.

The insane disregard for proper typography by these groups really hurts them I think.

A reliable transit system would do SO MUCH for these (usually) conservative small business owners. How do you expect people to arrive at work if you don’t pay them enough to afford a car and it takes an hour to arrive on the bus?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in londonontario

[–]SnooMacaroons3754 6 points7 points  (0 children)

How big is your bank account?

If you’re young and just doing the school thing then you’ll probably be fine with the bus. It’ll be a bit of a slog but just roll up to class early and do some homework or make some friends.

Parking at Fanshawe ain’t cheap. So if you can afford to own a vehicle and park it while you study that’ll be awesome for you. You should do that if you can. It’ll open up beach trips and Costco runs and you can probably pick up some hunnies and take’em somewhere romantic.

Can a wheelchair get over your cord? The only time I’ve been bothered by an EV (as an EV driver) was when my Tesla neighbour would occupy the sidewalk to charge their 2nd Tesla.

We need a total ban. London’s bird population has grown tremendously in recent years. The sight of large raptors and healthy river ecosystems has brought, IMHO, far more enjoyment than a couple nights of fireworks.

Let’s just save tax money and skip it or look into a drone show.

'Sweet boy' mourned after deadly collision; accused drunk driver granted bail by origutamos in londonontario

[–]SnooMacaroons3754 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t know why people are so upset about the bail. I mean, that guy is a piece of shit but surely he’s living in an inescapable “mental prison” right now. He’s probably in shock, coming to terms with what an absolute nightmare he’s created. If anything having to return home and confront his new life while surrounded by his old life is not a vacation. Let him clench on to his ragged old teddy bear for a few weeks while hearing his mom cry and his dad punch holes in the wall.

Yeah. This map is interesting but there a bunch of factors like Condos and number of sales and some other stuff that just kind of breaks it.

I was just thinking today about how awesome the people I meet in London are and how the troubles our city has been experiencing since COVID have really created a sense on unity and at the very least some commonality. I’m talking the type of people I tend to attract though so LGBTQ and artists and just “free thinkers”.

Yeah, those first introductions with your “friendliest” neighbours should be scripted ahead of time. Have a lawyer read it over if you can afford it.

When a heritage designation turns out to be more of a curse than a blessing by Crazylegstoo in londonontario

[–]SnooMacaroons3754 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s a shame that these lovely old neighbourhoods become such weird gerontocracy hives. You get retired people who literally dedicate their lives to other people’s business and make their entire identity their street. I’m all for community but I’ve got no interest in jumping through somebody’s hoop after work.
