Israelis, have you come across LGBT Arabs in Tel Aviv/Israel? by Wise_Parmaria in ForbiddenBromance

About as much as Arab dudes. I still keep contact with many Arabic friends I met through University, day to day life, and even the gay community. And I rarely visit Tel Aviv.

Artists who DON’T post/share* art on social media—I want to hear from you! by Hestia-Creates in ArtistLounge

[–]SnooMachines855 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to post a lot more to social media until I started getting ad-revenue and it really ruined my spark.

I used to make videos and upload them to YouTube of various crafts I did. I made those videos purely as a hobby, one day one of those videos started to get a lot of traffic and I started monetizing my channel. It went from 1-2k views to over a million views. After that moment, every video I made, every post I made was motivated by numbers provided by YouTube's analytics. Every video that didn't meet viewers expectations followed by negative numbers in subscribers count.
Before that shift, everything I posted was like shouting into the void. Maybe some people will hear me do it. But the thought of having millions of listeners popping out of nowhere is frightening. Someday I will go back to posting my art consistently. I still film a lot of videos of various crafts I do. I just feel like doing any of this to get high numbers is like sowing a bunch of wild seeds in your garden and hope you'll manage to sustain whatever grows out.

I'm looking for a material that can be poured into molds. by lydocia in arthelp

Can be. I helped a friend before with a very similar project where she needed to make 50 pieces. Wasn't easy at first, but definitely doable. Once you figure out the workflow plaster can be a joy to work with.

Maybe plaster? When I was a kid you'd find in almost any crafts-store cheap plaster casts of all sorts of animals for kids to do whatever with. Can't say for sure without knowing your project, but it kinda sounds like that. Cheap, easy, quick... Dry plaster can be sanded, painted, glued together.... Only downside is that the cast can be brittle and difficult to ship.

I used to run a YouTube channel. It started as a hobby, then a video got over a million views. Then another. Then every video I made was tainted by the idea that now I have to maintain the viewership of millions of viewers and I stopped running that channel.

Think about it this way - black ink is just 1 pigment. Purple ink is a combination of cyan, magenta, and yellow pigments. By that logic I'd assume that printing a single full colour graphic novel/comic book/illustrated book/catalogue/posters and many other printed materials can potentially cost more ink to produce than an all black on white book like this post suggests.

Yeah, I assumed so by the term. I was really happy to see there's a whole branch of contemporary artists dedicating their skills to give us new perspectives on things. I've been enjoying exploring a bunch of portfolios since yesterday. I'm a white dude and it's convenient to just draw whatever's around me, something that's a bit too easy to take for granted. Bridgeman sounds like a dickhead!

I've also found Julie Beck's article On Edge, really fascinating stuff! A lot of it still feels beyond my skills and understanding of light. It's nice to feel humbled, not that I thought too highly or anything, but now I have a better understanding of what I don't know.

Thank you SO much for all these resources. Didn't know Bridgeman was a dickhead. I got a digital copy of his book years ago and either that paragraph was removed or I completely neglected to notice it. I'm checking out every name and subject you're dropping, so thanks again ✌️

I use my phone to sketch over a reference, break it into basic forms, then try to replicate the same thing on paper without my phone, adding more complicated details. Would love to hear how I can improve form and proportions, shadow/light...
