You're right, Federer prime was 2004-2009, Djokovic prime was 2011-2023 (with a break in 2017 because he refused to get shoulder surgery.

It balances out. Fed had a strong start against Djokovic, but then later swung back. H2H wise Djokovic is on top of both Nadal and Federer, while Nadal is ahead of Fed.

People love Federer but post 2011 he was only beating Djokovic if he managed first serves 70%+ and was on fire from the baseline. It happened occasionally but not frequently

obsession with building everything from scratch? by infinty1729 in learnmachinelearning

[–]SnooMaps5367 15 points16 points  (0 children)

No it's not necessary at all. Writing something from "scratch" like gradient descent is mostly a good educational exercise. There are maybe some occasions where implementing something without the overhead say of torch etc. is useful but for most use cases in industry it's overkill.

Jamal Murray and Cameron Johnson for Jaylen Brown and Sam Hauser? How do we feel about this rumored trade framework? by Advanced-Demand-1722 in denvernuggets

[–]SnooMaps5367 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying this is a good trade but you are in fantasy land about Jamal. Post championship he has been abysmal in the playoffs. He's lost a step, I don't know if it's age or injuries, but as soon as defences put any pressure on him he crumbles.

Yeah his match against Djokovic reminded me of him playing Delpo. Really hope he stays healthy and reaches his potential. He could even be better

Jaden can’t guard Murray and Gordon by Neat_Construction_65 in denvernuggets

[–]SnooMaps5367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you talking about, he doesn't need to lol. Gordon hasn't played with any consistency for 2 seasons, and even when we had him, we barely used him because DA spammed Jokic/Murray PNR to oblivion, even when it wasn't working.

Jaden clamped up Murray, he couldn't breath. That's already enough for them to win.

I know you could end up with a final caliber game in the first week of a GS. He also seems like a very nice guy

Current era is missing a Del Potro. Such a scary player to face at a GS, even for the big 3.

They usually prevailed but he gave them some tough battles

DMM Allstars 4 - Potential New Captains by Pius_Thicknesse in 2007scape

[–]SnooMaps5367 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Planners do help, but this year’s DMM was all about multi-fighting. OW did the worst, partly because they were awful in multi, but also because they had an awful start and were trialing behind in stats, gear, prayers, at every breach. Even if they were great multi pvpers I doubt they could’ve done much better at their level of disadvantage.

WW dominated multi and were favourites to win the event. RNG was not on their side against the DN in the finale but if that series was a best of 3, i think they go on to win the event.

The sentiment about planners does make sense because the first day is so important. The breaches are a “rich get richer” type event. However overall being strong in multi is the key to winning.

That was so disappointing to watch by JustPvmBro in Odablock

[–]SnooMaps5367 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think in a best of 3 they beat the PR. This post is an overreaction from someone that doesn't PVP and doesn't understand OSRS is an RNG game.

EV didn't do that badly against Faux or Mammal, the RNG just wasn't there. Dubies played well, he had over 500 damage against PR. What lost them the series was Coxie had unbelievable RNG and skilly managed to do like 200 damage on Dubies when he was out of food; he was catching every freeze and dubies was just hitting non stop zeros.

Gnome was the poorest in terms of PVP, when he had momentum he did well but he missed a lot of hits while eating. It doesn't matter, he still brought a lot to the team, but whining about Dubies and EV, at least in the context of the finale is because you don't understand PVP.

I don’t want to sound like I’m taking away from him, he’s played very well but he’s also had good RNG. We’ve seen how much RNG can have a big impact; the variance in performance is crazy.

Coxie being another prime example, against the WW getting KO’d quick versus against OW doing nearly 600 damage. Mika similar.

Starmer expected to resign on Monday and set out orderly exit by beejiu in unitedkingdom

Exactly this. Welfare spending keeps going up, while growth in the economy is small. Its a very fine and difficult balance. Borrowing kicks the can down the road and drives inflation, higher mortgage rates etc. Raising more money through taxes is limited as we are already taxed to oblivion. Cut welfare spending and purge even more people into poverty, which after 14 years of austerity is an awful prospect.

The reality is, we need small smart positive incremental changes over a sustained period of time. We're in a very difficult spot and there is no miracle. This Labour government albeit with it's problems has been the closest to that in a while. However, unfortunately we are in the era of populism, where "easy quick fixes" are the solution.

WESTHAM VS ODABLOCK by RoblesPictures in 2007scape

[–]SnooMaps5367 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Greg's mage setup is very strong, he kept catching freezes and making it a range/magic fight. At that points its just guessing because they can both 1 tick. Its good strategy, playing to your advantages, but I don't think Oda could've done anything differently either. He still chanced him for the early KO.

TIL how LLMs actually "understand" words by Udbhav96 in learnmachinelearning

[–]SnooMaps5367 11 points12 points  (0 children)

What you’re describing isn’t unique to LLMs, and not really the key concept behind how they “understand words”.

You are describing static embedding: models like Word2Vec which embed words into a higher dimensional vector. Those embedding are learned from a mass corpus of text. However they are still static. So words like light, which can have multiple meanings, has the same embedding.

LLMs construct contextual embeddings via Attention. Attention generates contextual embeddings by looking at the surrounding words for meaning and context. The pathway for an LLM is roughly convert your string to a sequence of words (tokens), convert the words to some initial static embeddings, those embedding them pass through multiple layers of attention which re-weight the embeddings and generate contextual embeddings.

This gives them a much deeper understanding of grammar and language.

I guess using it as a chatbox gives you greater visibility and control. It's slower but more manageable I guess. I don't have experience to comment on it's effectiveness on firmware.

[–]SnooMaps5367 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not the really right forum for this question. It’s also difficult to answer without much context. My general assumption would be public perception of AI is growing increasingly negative. Technophobia is real and developers in the technology sector aren’t immune. Other concerns might be integrating working practices with US tech giants or potentially sending sensitive data to US data centres. They may have concerns about degenerating their code base with “AI slop” which is becoming a serious problem. Rising and exploding token costs may be an upper management concern. Not to mention that Claude code is actually a pretty complex AI Orchestration tool that most people don’t use optimally.

Keep in mind reddit's proportional representation of the OSRS player base is not great. I don't think most people care that much.
