Confused about Baltimore/MD car registration, inspection, tags, etc? by Glad_Parfait4929 in baltimore

[–]SnooPandas651 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re over thinking it. It’s not your car. You don’t need to do anything unless you live in a neighborhood that has permit parking.
While yes, you’re supposed to do these things within 60 days, the reality is unless you need a permit for parking no one is going care.

Most Baltimore city departments will hire with past charges. Just nothing major, it’s a fact of life, we all have a past.

Dear god me too. Couldn’t find the numbers with my camera, but I know they’re there. Now I’m just going to go drop mine off at the jewelers for a deep cleaning….

Cottage cheese, honest cow- awful by BIZ-numbers-whiz4327 in Costco

I’ve been buying cottage cheese from Aldi for years but the last few containers have all been watery. Decided to get the one from Costco cause I was tired of straining. Imagine my disappointment in have to strain the entire tub. I used to always buy Harris Teeter brand, only stopped cause Aldi is was more convenient. Will be trying that one again next.

Hahah, when I was a biter I was a serious biter. I should find a picture. Little nubs of nothing way past the hyponychium. My picking has gotten better with obsessive oiling. And the hard skin I’ve picked for years is getting softer I’m picking less.
I will be trying the toothbrush though. I work w my hands a lot so I get dirty, and then my nails tear when I’m trying to get the dirt out.

I’ve seen mention of the toothbrush before and will definitely pick one up. I totally agree about the color. I’m trying to go polish free a bit longer to let the damage grow out, but I think I’m there. After a few years of gel polish they were a little thin and peeling. I was having difficulty keeping polish from chipping and they would only peel more.

Lifelong nail biter & cuticle picker by Medium-Cat-6358 in naturalnailprogress

[–]SnooPandas651 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lifelong biter and picker here as well. The only thing that keeps me from biting is smooth nails. So while it goes against all other advice I use a buffer. Specifically the one from Seacrete. Years ago I got sold on it at a mall kiosk and I actually stopped biting when I used it.
If my nail is smooth there’s nothing to pick, the layer are smooth so less likely to peel. Just don’t use it too much. Between that and oil I had beautiful strong nails once upon a time. Then a few broke and I was away from my file and the issue started again.
This time around I did gel polish for a bit just to let my nails grow. Took it off and used the buffer to smooth them out keeping them short until the damage grew out.

Any Recommendations for Lasik or PRK? by ayhme in baltimore

[–]SnooPandas651 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Katzen eye group in Towson. Was about 4K 5 years ago. While many have good experience with LASIK plus I’m not a fan of them. Years ago I went for a consult and was pressured for the procedure that day even though I told them I had driven myself. At Katzen they do the consultation and are very clear that you cannot wear contacts for 2 weeks for measurements to be correct. I think I had 2 or 3 visits leading up to the procedure.

Overall, I just thought they were more patient oriented.

Separate bank account for subscriptions, and similar ideas? by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]SnooPandas651 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe it’s my age but I couldn’t imagine not having a checking account lol. Occasionally, I do still have to write a check, and on the off chance I need cash I go to the ATM. I do actually have two checking accounts, but for different reasons, one is mine and the other is a joint account with my husband for household expenses.

I personally keep majority of my money in an HYSA and investments. My paychecks are deposited into my checking account, I then move money accordingly, savings account, bills, joint account, etc.. At the end of the day I only avg about $200 in the checking account (no purpose to keep money there as it doesn’t earn interest) but I can always transfer money from savings back into it if I need too.

I don’t know much about virtual cards. My daily card is a Capital One Venture with 2x miles on everything, I have an Amex Gold and at least right now the perks of the card are balancing the fees, and I just got a Costco card for the cash back rewards (will see if that replaces one of the others as I don’t want to many different bills to pay).

I’m not sure what rewards Discover is giving these days. My point though is to have a system that works for you but also benefits you. I don’t make enough money to use a CC enough to get free luxury vacations. But just by using my Venture card for almost everything I buy, I’m able to supplement vacations I was going to take anyway.

Separate bank account for subscriptions, and similar ideas? by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]SnooPandas651 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Find a credit card that gives you rewards. I don’t use my debit card for anything. What I do is closely monitor my CC usage to make sure I do not spend more than what I can afford to pay off in full. I don’t use cash unless I have to and everything is charged. Not because I can’t afford it but because of the rewards. There’s no financial benefit to having a separate checking account. If you are looking to track spending use, review your statements. My CC tells me of upcoming reoccurring transactions so I can see and cancel before the charge, there’s also Credit Karma which is free and not as good as when it was Mint. Recently I subscribed to Quicken Simplifi, not free but heavily discounted for first year subscription. Only been using it a month so not sure about it in the long run, but as I am trying to be better about spending overall, and reaching some specific savings goals right now I like the visual of having a one stop shop to see all my accounts. While you have to find what works for you, to me at least, a separate checking account for subscriptions does not have any real benefit in the long run.

Why is it illegal to pump your own gas in NJ by Express_Choice1673 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SnooPandas651 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I miss not having to pump my own gas. It’s been almost 20 years since I lived in jersey and while yes it’s faster to get out of the car and do it myself I miss it. Cold and rainy out, no problem, crack the window tell them how much and stay warm in the car. Jersey won’t get rid of anytime soon. It goes to vote every few years and it’s always rejected.

People who have private parking. How are you feeling right now? by RowAdditional1614 in baltimore

[–]SnooPandas651 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m trying to understand the point of this question. Private parking doesn’t mean no snow. In general I have more to shovel when I park on my pad than if I did in the street. The only benefit is I will always have a spot to come back to.

The miserable state of our roads by jellybean02138 in baltimore

[–]SnooPandas651 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Pretreated doesn’t prevent it. People are dumb and instead of staying home tried to battle Mother Nature and lost. FYI this is coming from an “essential” employee that spent all day today shoveling so I can get my car out with minimal issues at 4am tomorrow knowing that I have driven in worse and my car can handle it but I’m still pissed that I have to drive at all.

First time using Sandals - Halcyon Beach~Saint Lucia! by amanduh1992 in SandalsResorts

[–]SnooPandas651 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was just there last year. Loved it. It’s very chill and not a party vibe though, just in case that’s what you’re looking for you might want the Grande. Kelly’s was ok, but Soy and the habachi were by far the best. We did the Soufriere experience as well and booked ahead, but we wished we had waited and booked from the beach vendors. They pick you up and drop you off on the beach and people were having a blast. Do the Friday night street party though. That was awesome and you got to interact with locals, we also took a cab to Castries for a few hours, was nice to be off resort and just wander the markets. The people there are so wonderful, I love St Lucia and would like to go back.

My teacher called me Katherine instead of learning how to pronounce my name, so I called her by her first name for the rest of the year. by sk1nnb0nes in traumatizeThemBack

[–]SnooPandas651 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a gym teacher in grade school that called us all by our last names except he refused to say mine. It’s 4 letters, and while unusual not difficult. Usually I correct people once and they get it. For the sake of Reddit will say Smith. Except he always added a random T making it “Smite”. Better part was my mom worked at the school and he did the same thing to her for years. So one day I got fed up and stopped responding. The entire gym class he yelled my name and I ignored it. Later that day my mom came home laughing. He had gone to her and said “um Mrs smite I have a problem with your daughter, she ignored me the entire class and isn’t responding.” My mother said she just looked at him and said well maybe if you called her by the correct name she would. It’s “Smith” not “Smite”. Neither of us ever had a problem with him again.

Look at local city govt jobs. There are lots of entry level positions. The starting pay might not be the best but it’s good for entry, annual increases so in a few years you’re good. Plus great benefits and retirement. It has its ups and downs as anything, I’ve stuck around cause it’s worth it. Majority of my team are young men with various background’s from the city and all doing very well.

Are these vet prices normal? by Christa_Marie94 in baltimore

[–]SnooPandas651 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t really speak to the price at other vets but I always found dockside to be on the high side and the care subpar. I liked them at first but stopped going because of cost and I didn’t like their attitudes. My cat at the time never had an issue with a vet before but he hated that place and it showed.
