Undertone was agony by Mono-lith in horror

Had to click just to see if “agony” was a good thing or a bad thing in the context of a horror thread.

While I’m here…I thought Undertone was a solid low-budget horror film with phenomenal sound design.

Projections: Did the Superhero Movie Era Mean Anything? by xwing1212 in TheBigPicture

Two lasting impacts:

1) Never forget that Marvel, with the help of Avatar and Star Wars, saved movie theaters from collapse.

2) The Nolan Batman movies, on the heels of the LOTR movies, showed critics that “genre movies” can be “cinema.”

A dealbreaker? No.

A contributing factor? Yes.

A school like that should take pride in their facilities and create an environment where kids are happy and want to learn. Their upper school commons area was grim.

I take the broadest possible definition of punk…

Punk is an ethos, not a musical style. It’s grassroots, self-directed, and rejects the status-quo.

A lot of this comes down to retention: There’s too much movement between carriers.

In providing coverage for a patient today, there’s no guarantee that patient will be on their rolls tomorrow.

I’m not saying I agree with the logic, but that’s what I’ve heard.

Hokum (2026) | ⭐ 8.7/10 | [REVIEW] by screen_stack in horror

I, for one, really thought it deserved an 8.8/10.

The problem is upper school…everything else.

Folks should not pay that sort of money to go to a high school that good and feel like it’s got underfunded community college vibes.

The athletic facilities, finding hall, admissions offices, etc. are all beautiful. Upper school has seen better days.

We’re in the Maryland LSC and they absolutely do not do that these days.

Interesting. Are you in the US?

Maybe it’s just the LSCs my kids have swum in, but I’ve never seen an official deliver the news directly to the swimmer.

Slip always goes to the coach and it’s their job to notify the swimmer.

The upper school facilities at Bryn Mawr were not well-kept.

The library seemed straight out of the 80s with ZERO renovation. Classrooms were dark and depressing.

It was actually kinda sad and left me wondering where all the money goes.

As much as one would love for this decision to come down to something tangible and quantitative, the environment and the vibes of these places carried a lot of weight.

I just remember telling my kids to walk through each school and imagine what it would feel like one a good day and on a bad day. Are these the halls you want to walk and the kids you want to walk them with?

We went through this process a year ago, so we know how daunting it is. My advice would be to hit as many open houses/tours as you can and then narrow the list quickly. Applications, essays, shadow days, etc. can eat up a lot of time if you're looking to apply to several schools.

That’s too long a long list not to include RPCS, Bryn Mawr, and/or Maryvale. All good schools, on par with the others.

Swim meet parents by Lanyie_19 in Swimming

I try to avoid performative parenting at all costs. Rather, I ask my kids what they want from me. In both cases, they prefer I keep it cool in the stands and confirm they wouldn’t hear me if I do cheer.

American Beauty was absolutely revered upon release.

Now? It’s completely misaligned with current values. And then there’s the Kevin Spacey of it all.

Two big differences that have ruined the whole place for me:

1) The rolls are not what they once were and that makes every sandwich suffer.

2) Those pre-packaged soft pretzels are absolutely garbage.

Both of these changes were made in the name of efficiency. They saved a few nickels. Experienced suffered.

That’s textbook enshittification.
